It’s been a long winter and I’m sure we are all looking forward to spring – a greener campus, warmer weather, new beginnings and the many celebrations ahead of us. It’s hard to believe we are almost halfway through another semester.

Spring is also a time for us to gear up for some wonderful events on and around campus. Our friends are again showing their support through our events benefiting the Foundation scholarships. Our 8th Annual LCCC Foundation and Alumni Association Clay Shoot is on April 29th, and kicks off our event season. There are many ways to get involved in one of our fundraisers – as a participant, sponsor or volunteer. Regardless of how you get involved, you are making a difference in the lives of students.

Looking to May – two of our biggest, and most proud celebrations. The Staff Recognition Dinner is on May 13, and Commencement is on May 18, celebrating the successes and milestones achieved by our staff and faculty and students, respectively.

Your presence at one of LCCC’s events will show how much you appreciate how hard our students and staff work. I look forward to seeing you there.

sPring oPen house A hit! A mix of over 200 prospective students and parents attended LCCC’s Spring Open House on Wednesday evening, February 23rd, held in our brand new Community Services Center. The Admissions Department was thrilled with the large student turnout and the ease in which traffic flowed from area to area. Participating Department Coordinators were also delighted with the spaciousness of our brand new accommodations, and the interest expressed by all of the students and parents who attended. A great first impression of LCCC all around!

LCCC’s Business Enterprise Center (BEC) will hold its 3rd Annual Extreme Entrepreneurship Tour at the Tamaqua Middle School Auditorium on March 31 from 1-5 p.m. The Extreme Entrepreneurship Tour brings the country’s top young entrepreneurs to college campuses to spread the entrepreneurial mindset during a half-day conference. The grand opening of the John E. Morgan Business Enterprise Center and Incubator Suites being built at the College’s Scheller Center at The Morgan Center will be unveiled during this fun and interactive event. The hatcheries will provide small business start-ups with an office, boardroom facility, and other support services. The suite will also include a classroom primarily for business and entrepreneurship classes.

The feeder program for the hatcheries will be through the annual business plan competition, held every fall through LCCC’s Business Enterprise Center (BEC). Interested candidates can enter to win a semester of mentorship from the myriad of resources available at the College and the business partnerships that have been developed through the BEC including SCORE, Counselors to America’s Small Businesses, as well as locating potential financing for their businesses. This event is free and open to the public; registration is required. There will be food, give-a-ways and cash prizes. For more information, contact Richard Warner, LCCC’s Professor of Business and BEC Center Advisor, at 610-799-1032 or email [email protected].

Forget the winter blues! LCCC’s main campus was celebrating ‘summer style’ in the Student Union on Thursday, February 24. From 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. Students, staff, and faculty enjoyed iced virgin cocktails from the Tiki Bar and a variety of Caribbean music performed by Ewabo. Caricature artist, Gene Mater, was also on hand for students to capture the spirit of the event.

troPiCAl fun in the winter sun! The children from the Early Learning Center came to visit and showed the LCCC students the true meaning of having a good time by showing off their dance moves!

Beginning in the fall of 2011, Moravian College will annually welcome as many as thirty transfer students to campus as Community College Fellows. Up to ten fellowships each from Northampton Community College and from Lehigh Carbon Community College and up to five each from Warren Community College and Bucks Community College will be awarded. Fellows will receive an annual renewable Fellowship of $10,000. The Fellowship also includes recognition activities, including dinner with the President once a semester and regular invitations for special events and opportunities for networking. We hope that Community College Fellows will be actively engaged in Moravian’s partnership with the local community colleges by making recruitment visits to local community colleges, writing testimonials about

The noncredit division of our college has a wide variety of workshops and courses to offer. It could be cooking, exercise, painting or computer courses. It could be youth-oriented summer camps or some of the work we do directly with school districts. But it could also be Public Safety workshops for fire, police, and emergency medical technicians or a CDL driver’s licensing course. A team of field professionals also work with companies directly to make them aware of federal and state grants, to custom design workshops meant especially for that company’s business plan or to address a challenge within the organization. This ranges from executive coaching, to communication skills, to Project Management certification to any number of specialized computer courses. In 2010 we launched a Green Energy Training Center at 1005 Brookside Road in partnership with AFC First Financial, an organization that offers advantageous programs and even some

training rebates to construction and development professionals in their network. Click here for more information on our green energy courses. We have one of the most active GED/Literacy centers in the area. While you need to test first to enter these courses at the level appropriate for you, you can make phone calls to get registered for the screening and orientation. Jobs training is a major offering from this division at LCCC. You can become certified as a Home-Based Child Care Provider, a Microsoft professional using Word, Excel and e-mail or even a Nurse Aide, among other choices. You can learn about these many workshops or sign up for them by going to www.lccc.edu and clicking either Continuing Education or Career Training. We also recenty launched the ability for everyone to register online. We hope you’ll return to our website to explore and register!
