FROM THE PRESIDENT'S DESKDear Friends,I thank you very much for helping me achieve many of my goals that that I had set out in the beginning of the year. I am sure with your support the rest of the year will sail through as smoothly .
Our Club finally amended its Bylaws for the first time ever in its history. We have also set out a method to protect the Sparsh Corpus. Ten members of our club have agreed to become Major Donors.
We have just returned from an adventurous family trip to Ranthambore where the elusive Tiger made our trip even more memorable .
As our journey towards Success Service Spirituality continues we have another outstanding upcoming event Arnab Goswami in conversation with Sadhguru. I hope to see all of you make time for this event.
The excitement continues .......

ISSUE JANUARY 2017
It was a very special event for Southend as Lohri was celebrated in true Punjabi style on the bright and sunny afternoon of 8th January .
The multicoloured decor with props typical to Punjab created an ambience of fun and festivity. The freshly prepared ' ganna juice and gol gappas ' were a super hit and the carefully selected dishes were a delight to the taste buds. Punjabi folk songs by the live singers and Dj had many tapping their feet on the dance floor. A grand entry by some of our Southend Anns in colourful dupattas doing Bhangra with the Dholwala on "Sunder Mundriye ho" was the highlight of the day. The auspicious Lohri fire was lit seeking blessings from the fire God. Last but surely the sweetest were the yummy boxes of goodies as return gift.
The entire event was graciously hosted by Rtn Deep and R'ann Veena Kapuria. It also marks the first Lohri celebration of their dear grandson Adhijai, and many Southenders. Congratulations and blessings to each one of them. Thank you very much Rtn Deep and R'ann Veena for this gracious and fun filled event that you were so benevolent to host for the entire club. The 120 Southenders present had great bon hommie..typical SOUTHEND STYLE
EVENTS GONE BYLOHRI CELEBRATION
The second Club Assembly for this year was held on 16th January at Sheraton, Saket.
It was an important event as for the first time ever Southend amended some of its bylaws keeping in mind the changing times, and new RI guidelines on various aspects like frequency of meetings, timing , leadership structures etc. Many new ideas and changes were discussed enthusiastically by the 37 members present to further enhance the working of our club.
The incoming President Rtn Garima also took a feedback on the destination (Bhutan vs Sikkim) and dates for the forthcoming brain storming trip.
The huge spread for the high tea, specially the gol guppas, provided a great opportunity for fellowship and bonding.
CLUB ASSEMBLY
In continuation of our clubs' efforts to help eradicate polio from India , the pulse polio camp was organised Sunday 29th January 2017, at the Cantonment General Hospital, Delhi Cant under the guidance of our dedicated Chairperson R'ann Sarita Jindal. Five NCC Students from Desh Bandhu Gupta College came to support the cause and many infants and children were administered with these "two drops of life ". A special thanks to R'nn Sarita for her unflinching efforts towards pulse polio since many years.
PULSE POLIO DAY
RANTHAMBORE TRIPThe family trip to Ranthambore from January 26 - 29 was a roaring success. 46 Southenders were in attendance and made the trip a wonderful experience! On the eve of Republic Day, everyone was dressed in national colours, which was a sight to see! Thanks to R'ann Aparna Daga who made the night even more entertaining by asking everyone to mention one thing they would like to change in the Constitution of their homes. The responses ranged from thought-provoking to hilarious. After that superb evening, everyone was geared up for the Safari next day. We had the amazing opportunity to see a tiger in its natural habitat roaming around mightily. The next activity in line was a visit to the Ganesh Temple, one of the biggest and most beautiful in India. The evening was composed of a stunning performance by Ms. Zila Khan who sang classical and semi classical songs at Nahargarh Fort. This traditional music night was followed by local Rajasthani barbecue. Overall, the event was a great bonding experience with friends and family!

One ordinary day, I decided to QUIT… Yes, I’ve made a decision to quit my job, my relationship and my spirituality. I’ve decided to quit my life. But, before I do that, I went in to the woods to have one last talk with God.
I asked God: “God, can you give me one good reason not to quit?”
His answer surprised me. God said: “Look around. Do you see the fern and the bamboo?”
I replied: “Yes. When I planted the fern and the bamboo seeds, I took very good care of them. I gave them light. I gave them water. The fern quickly grew from the earth. Its brilliant green covered the floor. Yet nothing came from the bamboo seed. But I did not quit on the bamboo. In the second year the Fern grew more vibrant and plentiful. But still, nothing came from the bamboo seed. But I did not quit on the bamboo.”
And then, God replied: “After 3 years, there was nothing from the bamboo seed. But I would not quit. In year four, again, there was nothing from the bamboo seed. I would not quit. Then in the fifth year a tiny sprout emerged from the earth. Compared to the fern it was seemingly small and insignificant…But just 6 months later the bamboo rose to over 100 feet tall. It had spent the five years growing roots. Those roots made it strong and gave it what it needed to survive. I would not give any of my creations a challenge it could not handle.”
After that, God asked me: “Did you know, my child, that all this time you have been struggling, you have actually been growing roots. I would not quit on the bamboo. I will never quit on you. You should never compare yourself to others. The bamboo had a different purpose than the fern. Yet they both make the forest beautiful.”
God said to me: “Your time will come. You will rise high.”
So, I asked God: “How high should I rise?”
God asked me: “How high will the bamboo rise?”
I was confused: “As high as it can?”
”Yes.” He replied, “Give Me glory by rising as high as you can.”
Ladies and gentlemen, you should never, never, never, give up – because God will never give up on you. And remember – don’t tell the Lord how big the problem is, tell the problem how Great the Lord is!
