A t our last Academy meeting severalmemberssportedthesametie:anele-gant model with stripes and the AEP
logo.ThisisoneofthelatestinitiativesofourAcademy. It is not simply a formal object: itdemonstrates our identity and gives us ourowncommon link.Towear it is to takepridein membership of our Academyand to be a part of a family of en-gagedandattentiveEuropeanphi-latelists. One can take both pleas-ure and pride in wearing it. Fur-thermore it is elegant, made inCome, to the north of Milan, a re-gion noted for its quality silk pro-ductions. Those who were not atMonaco can of course order oneand wear it proudly at philatelicevents!The tie was not the only Italian AEP produc-tionatMonaco.Asyouwillreadelsewhere inthis issueanotherexcellentexampleof ItalianworkmanshipMuranoglassmadeitsowncon-tribution. However Monaco was of coursemuchmorethanthese,itwasamajorphilatel-ic event, wonderfully organised by so manyinvolved in its running. It would indeed besad for myself or my successor to ask for aresignation because of a silence of three orfour years. This of course does not apply toour older members who have already madetheircontributionstoEuropeanphilately.The next major philatelic event takes placeoverseas in New York and the AEP will takepart. Our Academy will then launch the nextOPUSentirelydevoted to transatlanticmail. Ilook forward to meeting many of you in theBigApple.
Finally I must not miss out the major AEPevent inVeniceonthe4-6November.Detailswill be available soon but meanwhile pleaseputthedatesinyourdiaries.Aphilateliceventtolookforwardto!

A Call for OPUS XVI Contributions DearfriendsAs you know the theme for the next OPUS(OPUS XVI) is “Transatlantic relations be-tweenEuropeandAmerica”.AsthisOPUSwillbepresented,givenitssub-ject, at theWorld StampShow NY2016 to beheldinNewYorkattheendofMay,Imustaskyoutorespectstrictdeadlines.I have already received some ten articleswhichIhaveeditedandadaptedtotheusualOPUS format. The quality of these makes mecertainthatthiswillbeanOPUSofveryhighphilatelicmerit.Severalarticleshavealreadybeenprom-ised. I await these with impatience andask the authors to respect the strictdeadline of 31 January 2016 which re-grettablycannotbeextendedinordertoallowmetocompletethisvolumewithinthetimelimitsrequired.I would add that the number of pages is notinfinite:giventhehighcostsofpostageitmustnotgoaboveagivenweightandifthatshouldoccurthentheBoardwouldneedtomakedif-ficultdecisions.Clearlythefirstcriteriawouldbethevarietyandqualityofarticlesandifthisdidnotallowsufficientgroundstomakearea-soned selection then the date of submissionwouldhavetobetakenintoaccount.I would like to thank all the authors, fromwhose labours our readers can bene+it andcan learn from theirdeepknowledgeandre-search.OPUShasbecomeavaluablecontribu-tiontotheworldofphilatelicliterature.Guy Coutant AEP OPUS editor

E. exhibition "TheGreatWar.TheLiberation.
A hundred gems of Italian philately", con-ceived and organized by the Federation of
Italian Philatelic Societies and the Group of Parliamentary Friends of Philately.
The exhibition highlighted important mo-ments in the history of Italy through mail,stamps,lettersandotherpostaldocuments.ItwassetupinthenewexhibitionroomsoftheGregorianmansionandwaspresentedbythecurator,BrunoCrevato-SelvaggiPresAEP.Also present were the Secretary of State forEconomicDevelopment,AntonelloGiacomelli,the President of the Federation of the ItalianPhilatelic societies, PieroMacrelli, the Presi-dentoftheGroupofParliamentaryFriendsofPhilately,Car-lo Giovanardi,and the topmanagementof the ItalianPost.

From the 16 to 18 October the third inter-national conference for jurors was held in
Budapest under FEPA patronage and the support of the Hungarian philatelic federa-
tion MABEOSZ. Led by Dénes Czirok the program covered the new one frame cate-
gory of competitive exhibits. More than35participants from15Europeancountries exchanged views and worked toharmonise the judgement of very varied col-lections.WolfHessRDP(Germany)dealtwiththematicandtraditionaland Kurt Kimmel RDP(Switzerland) withpostal history. Practicalexercises examined 35collections form thesedisciplines. Sundaymorning saw a mostinteresting visit to theBudapest postal muse-umwithadisplaygivenby Geza Homonnay,president of the Hun-garian Philatelic Acade-my on "Peterdi" seapost.ManythankstotheHun-garian Federation and Denes Czirok for thiswellorganisedandworthwhileeventandwelookforwardtothenext.

The tables at the gala dinner were decorated with a piece of ice pack whose melting did not seem to cause undue concern. Frozen firmly the stamps of MonacoPhil slowly reappeared.
