VP Technical Report By John Fischer Jr.

Our presenter for the February meeting will be Tom Spremo, president of Purely Med Gas. His subject matter is Medical Gas Systems of Today, strategic design concepts found within NFPA 99-2012: Health Care Facilities Code so as to become familiar with the current terminology while understanding how to navigate the document for design and maintenance. Mr. Gregory G. Aymong, from Highland Tank, reminded us that Black Water-toilet or sanitary waste; Grey Water-untreated waste water that has not come in contact with toilet waste; Reclaimed Water-water which is a result of tertiary treatment of domestic waste water by a public agency; and Harvested Rainwater-storm water that is conveyed from a building roof are among the sources of non-potable available to us. When treated for the use needed, can be the solution for scarcity of normal sources of supply. Among them, harvested rainwater is the most available with minimum treatment for non-potable uses such as toilet flushing, irrigation, etc. The process of collecting, conveying and storing rainwater for future beneficial use is the oldest method of securing water; practiced by ancient civilizations over 4,000 years ago. Rainwater can be stored for direct use or recharged into the ground water aquifer. Primary applications are water conservation and/or runoff reduction. Design of such systems are guided by the ASPE recently announced ARCSA/ASPE/ANSI 63-2013: Rainwater Catchment Systems standard; co-sponsored IAPMO and NSF International, and recently approved as an American National Standard by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI). Hope to see you Tuesday February 3 at our next meeting Don’t forget the availability of your Continuing Education Certificates which will be available at the close of our meeting.

Now that we’ve all made it through the Holidays, it’s not too soon to start thinking

about spring and beyond! We still have Easter coming up, and then there’s Memorial Day, and then there’s

our annual golf outing in June. Look for our flyer/announcement to come out soon, it will be here before you know it!

Also think about planning now to attend the ASPE Symposium, which will be held

here October 1st through October 4th at the Hyatt Regency at the Arch hotel in downtown St. Louis. We just had a planning coordination discussion with ASPE and everything is shaping up great. The exact details will be discussed and approved by the ASPE Society B.O.D. at their meeting Jan 24th/25th, so expect to see and hear more coming up in the next few weeks and months about the event. Registration will likely open around the 1st of May!

Our next Chapter meeting is on February 3rd, 2015 at the Engineer’s Club. If you plan to attend our Chapter meeting, please remember to get your response

to me by Friday the week before the meeting. It really helps a lot. As always, potential members that attend our Chapter meeting get a free lunch on us!! Just let us know when you RSVP to the meeting invitation and we’ll take it from there.
