VP Technical Report By John Fischer Jr.

The 2009 UPC Section 318.0, requires that drainage piping over food or drink, being prepared or being stored, shall be protected from condensation or leakage. In addition, since December 1988, a law change within the Resource, Conservation, and Recovery Act in the United States requires that corrosive, flammable, hazardous (toxic or carcinogenic), or radioactive fluid being transported within chemical and petroleum piping systems containing a corrosive, flammable, hazardous (toxic or carcinogenic), or radioactive fluid, shall be prevented from finding its way into the external atmosphere, or be discharged underground. How is this to be accomplished? Our presentation for the meeting Tuesday March 3, will be on a method to accomplish this requirement, Double Containment (DC) piping. Plan to attend to learn from our presenter, Diana Mollicone, Applications Engineer from IPEX USA LLC -Industrial Piping Systems, how to use this material, and some of its unique qualities and installation requirements. Our February meeting presentation by Tom Spremo, president of Purely Med Gas, was one of the most enjoyed and informative presentations we have experienced for several years. His subject matter was Medical Gas Systems of Today, strategic design concepts found within NFPA 99-2012: Health Care Facilities Code. Differences between previous editions of NFPA 99, the 2012 edition and the just released 2015 edition were discussed. Among the key difference was the intent which is now based on Risk where previously it was based on occupancy. Included in the discussion were the differences included in Gas and Vacuum Systems, Permitted Locations for Medical Gases, Acceptable Medical Gas Personnel Credentials, Manifold/Cylinder Storage requirements. Hope to see you Tuesday March 3 at our next meeting Don’t forget the availability of your Continuing Education Certificates which will be obtainable at the close of our meeting.
