October 2013 Volume 50, Issue 3
What is the most important asset in your portfolio? Is it your 401K, your
house or some other tangible piece of property? I would say the most
important asset in your portfolio is you!
You and your skill set will increase your net worth far more than anything
else.
Career Equity is the process of deliberately and strategically investing in
yourself and your career. As an internal audit professional and a business
person, what have you been doing to increase your skills and advance
your career? One of the easiest and best ways to build your Career Equity
is to become an active participant in the IIA. Two simple strategies to
accomplish this are:
Attend 3 – 5 chapter meetings each year. For less than ten hours per
year, you would expand your St. Louis network ten fold. A strong
Network outside your company significantly increases your upward
mobility. You might also learn something that will help you excel in your
current position.
Join a chapter committee. If attending chapter meetings increases your
network by 10, joining a committee will increase your network by 10 x
10. Being a committee member will increase your leadership skills in an
environment where mistakes are not career threatening.
The theme of my term is “Adding Value – Making the IIA Work For
You”. You have the primary responsibility for managing your career.
Take control today and become active in the IIA!
Regards,
Rick Feldt

Internal Audit Quality
What does it mean?
Why should you care?
How do you measure it?
And, most importantly, how do you
improve it?
Brad Miller is responsible for measuring and improving the quality of internal audits and internal
auditors at Wells Fargo. During this one hour presentation, Brad will discuss:
Wells Fargo’s quality scoring system
Communicating quality improvement to internal audit staff
Automated tools used to measure quality
Measuring internal audit risk
Internal audit departments often struggle with implementing a Quality Assurance and Improvement
Program that is meaningful and cost effective. So come listen to what this leading internal audit
organization has done to address this very question. At the end of the presentation, you will walk
away with ideas to improve the effectiveness of your internal audits and the quality of your internal
auditors.
Brad Miller is the VP and Senior Manager of Quality Assurance and Improvement at Wells Fargo.
Brad has over twenty years’ experience with companies such as Washington Mutual, Capital One
and Wells Fargo.

. September Meeting Recap
Our September meeting featured Mike Fucilli who currently serves on the IIA North American board of directors and is also former District Advisor for our St. Louis chapter. For the monthly meeting, he shared his insight on managing risk and shared his personal experiences to over 80 members in attendance. The meeting was followed up with a short 3 hour seminar on the key changes to the revised COSO Framework and the overall implications to your organization as well as your internal audit function. Great attendance, great insights, great food (who doesn’t love bacon) and great networking - what else do you need?
