I can hardly believe how quickly the year has passed, but this will be my last President’s Mes- sage. I’d like to formally thank everyone for an amazing year, especially the large group of vol- unteers in Omaha and Lincoln who have led the efforts of our hard-working committees and planned all of our wonderful events. I’m so hon- ored to have served with this amazing group of generous and dedicated people, and I look for- ward to the future of our Nebraska Chapter. Next, I am pleased to extend a congratulations to chapter member James Carlson who will be awarded with a Distinguished Service Award by the ASHRAE Member’s Council at Society’s An- nual Conference in Long Beach, California. This award recognizes ASHRAE members who have served the Society faithfully and with distinction on committees or have otherwise given freely of their time and talent on behalf of the Society. Congrats, James! Another award announcement this month is for our ASHRAE Student Scholarship recipients. We wish them the best of luck with their continued studies! 2017 NEBRASKA ARCHITECTURAL ENGINEERING CONFERENCE

June 23, 2017

The event is sponsored by the Nebraska Chapters of Architectural Engineering Institute (AEI) and ASHRAE. It will be a one day Technical Conference and Expo for professionals and students in-volved in the building industry. The conference will be at Scott Conference Center, 6450 Pine Street, Omaha, NE.

Early registration for Exhibitors ends on June 10, 2017

We are planning a Scavenger Hunt for the Expo. Every registered vendor will provide one or two questions (with answers) for us to use for the game. The attendees will scan a QR code at each ven-dor’s desk and will answer the questions. If the attendee answers the questions for that vendor cor-rectly will be entered into a poll for the opportunity to win a prize from that vendor. Attendees that visit all booths and answer all questions correctly will be entered in a poll for a Grand Prize.

For more information you can visit the website at https://aeinebraska.wildapricot.org/

or email us at [email protected]

Best regards,

AEI Nebraska

2017 CRC is in Kansas City!

Mr. Dan Int-Hout, III, Chief Engineer, Krueger will speak on Selecting Diffusers for Proper Air Distribution and Meting Codes & Standards. When engineers select air outlets for overhead air distribution, they are challenged to provide adequate air distribution and temperature control, meet several ASHRAE Standards, and respond to the architect and acoustical consultant. These differing requirements can appear to be contradictory. One must understand the physics of air distribution, the intent of the standards, the needs of the occu-pants, and the aesthetic and acoustic implications.

We will discuss air distribution basics, and get into the challenging issues in meeting ASHRAE Standards 62.1, 55 and 90.1 as they relate to the proper selection of air outlets.

Mr. Jim Wolf, President of Global Policy Associates and Chair of the ASHRAE MTG for low GWP refrigerant alternatives will provide the latest information on the research activities to identify low GWP alternatives for current refrigerants and information on research activities toward the safe use of flammable refrigerants, including A2L, necessary to assist in the devel-opment of safety standards and building codes The presentation will describe the industry’s challenge on implementing low GWP flammable refrigerants and cover the seven key research projects background and purpose along with expectations of key findings. Information will also be provided on the execution plan of the combined research of ASHRAE, AHRI, DOE and CARB.

Fun things to do while in Kansas City!
