October 21-23

Hi Everyone,

Well, summer is here along with the wind.

What is your skill Level? I found this in one of my Quilting Magazines;

Beginner

A beginner is a quilter who has been introduced to the basics of

cutting, piecing and assembling a quilt top and is working to master these

skills. Someone who has the knowledge of how to sandwich, quilt and find

a quilt, but may not have necessarily accomplished the task yet.

Confident Beginner

A confident beginner is a quilter who has pieced and assembled

several quilt tops and is comfortable with the process, and is now ready to

move on to more challenging techniques and projects using a least two

different techniques.

Intermediate

An intermediate quilting is a quilter who is comfortable with most

quilting techniques and has a good understanding for design, color and

the whole process. An intermediate quilter is one who is experienced in

paper piecing, bias piecing and projects involving multiple techniques.

They are confident in making fabric selections other than those listed in

the pattern.

Advanced

An advanced quilter is a quilter who is looking for a challenging

design. Someone who knows she or he can make any type of quilt.

Someone who has the skill to read, comprehend and complete a pattern,

and is willing to take on any technique is an advanced quilter. They are

comfortable in her or his skills and have the ability to select fabric suited

for the project.

So whatever level you are: I challenge everyone to try something that is

just a little harder; it just takes confidence to try to get better. So just

challenge yourself to

move to the next level and you will be surprised at what you can do.

Happy quilting during the summer months.

Keep smiling

Dianne

Planning for the 2016-2017 fiscal year begins in June and

we want to make sure we have your budget in mind.

If no budget is submitted, we have to analyze the expens-

es of the previous year. This could result in a loss of funds

for next year. Thank you.

DID YOU KNOW… Antler, North Dakota is home to the World’s Largest Historical Quilt. It is 85 ft. x 135 ft. and was sewn together in 1988 in the shape of North Dakota. It contains blocks representing all 53 counties. More than 7,000 people worked on the quilt.

The quilt is too large to display and is therefore in storage. Leona Tennyson, coordinator of the pro-ject, is now deceased and her children and daughter-in-law are trying to find a home for the quilt.

New Satellite Group

Seven quilters met at Quilter's Eden and have established

a modern satellite group! The group, as yet unnamed,

will meet at 6:30 pm on the third Thursday of the month

at Quilter's Eden. At this time, we are willing to add

about five or six members so if you are interested, please

join us on June 16 or contact Suzanne

([email protected]) for more information.

We feel there may be interest for a modern group which

would meet during the day. If you are one of those inter-

ested in a daytime modern satellite group, please start

the ball rolling and form a group! Contact Suzanne

([email protected]) if you'd like names of those who

were interested in the daytime group.

Treasurer’s Report A Note from the Editor

I admit it, I’m an addicted organizer. I can only go so long

before I have to stop and organize. I did so a couple of weeks

ago and was surprised by some of the “gadgets” I had stored in

plastic containers...tools I never use. I’m not much of a gadget

gal and when something catches my eye and I grab it I’m most

often disappointed, I tend to stick with the basics. Hopefully

someone in the guild finds a treasure among my

disappointments on the freebie table.

That being said, I just saw a new product for the applique quilter

that has my attention. Charlotte’s Fusible Thread by Superior

Thread Company. It goes in the bobbin and fuses your applique

without having to fuse the entire design (you can watch a video

on thequiltshow.com daily blog for May 13, 2016). It looks

interesting and I might have to try it. Here we go again.

Meanwhile, if you see a gadget on the freebie table, remember

that what doesn’t work for one quilter is a must-have for the

next and I’m happy to recycle. Of course, I check the table to

see if there is something I can use….I can always bring it back

in a few months.
