CELEBRATING 26 YEARS OF SINGLES GOLF ® IN AMERICA

President Bev Houghton Holidays are just around the corner and we are still playing golf and socializing. Thank you to those that came out to play golf at Westchase on Wed. Oct. 18. It was a beautiful day and the course was in ex-cellent condition. We went to Fords Ga-rage for Happy Hour after golf. It was a fun time with a great group of 16 people. Just a Reminder- Our November Monthly Meeting will be Nov. 8. This is a WEDNESDAY. Happy Hour at 6:00 pm and Meeting at 7:00pm. We will be able to take advantage of The Eagles PRIME RIB DINNER SPECIAL, which at last check was $15.99. Many of us enjoyed this spe-cial earlier this year. Also note later time to accommodate our working members. We hope to make this change permanent and see more of you at meetings. The November meeting is important. We will be nominating the new board members. As it is the last meeting of the year, we are try-ing to set things up for 2018. It’s a good opportunity for members to give us some input to help improve our chapter. So I hope to see many of you on Wed, Nov. 8.

Sandy Lindberg, Golf Chair Fifteen ASGA members enjoyed a fabu-lous weekend outing at The Saddlebrook Golf and Tennis Resort in Wesley Chapel September 30 and October 1. The golf-ing was great, the weather was greater, and the socializing was the best! We al-most got rained out but the golf Gods were shining on us! Saturday on the Saddle-brook course, we played a Shamble format where the team of Bev Houghton, Bobbie Clark, Carolyn Obenberger, and Jim Noguez were the winners. Bev and Hunter won Closest to the Pin award (hmmm..how did that happen?) and Jim Noguez won Longest Putt. Congrats!! Af-ter golf we met around the pool for awards before cleaning up and meeting for dinner at TD Sports Bar onsite and gathering in a room later for more socializing. The Palmer course was played on Sun-day and was in great shape. That day we played a two-person best ball format. Carolyn and Jim won this event. Linda Floyd won Longest Putt and Closest to the Pin winners were Edie Senensky and Jim

Noguez (I think he should buy everyone a round!)! Great job, winners!! Besides being a great venue, we did not have to drive our cars anywhere once we got there. Thanks for Saddlebrook's great customer service! Our October golf event was held at Heri-tage Harbor on October 29. It was cool and very windy, but the sun shined all day! We had a shotgun start and everyone finished around the same time. Everyone enjoyed a great after-golf menu in the clubhouse. The format was play your own ball with a lot of good scores despite the wind. We had to have a scorecard playoff because there was a tie for low net of 68. Cynthia Martell beat out Cindy Simon on the second hardest hole. They were even cart mates! Nice shooting, ladies! Closest to Pin awards went to Romeo Nelson (guest) and Ray Preston. Longest Putt went to Cindy Simon. Con-

grats to everyone! Next event is November 11 at Plantation Palms for the Hillsborough versus Pinellas summer league playoff for the roving trophy and bragging rights. Any member can play that day but only those that played five times in the summer leagues can compete. November 19 and December 3 are the dates for the two-week Club Champion-ship! You must have five posted games in the last four months to compete and handi-caps will be verified. The format is bettering your net score hole-for-hole over two rounds of golf. If you can only play one day, that net score can still compete. Again, everyone can golf these courses even if you are not competing. Sign up now for these event! What the Great Putters Do ~Rick Smith, Golf Digest

So many golfers hear that they should chase the ball to the hole with the putter-head to accelerate the club through impact and keep the putt on line. But that thought is actually counterproductive to making putts. The only thing chasing the ball should be you, after it goes in. Following that advice can restrict the stroke, blocking the face from releasing naturally and pushing the putt off line. Of-ten, grip pressure that is too tight accom-panies this "chaser" stroke. Instead, you want very light pressure, like Jordan Spieth uses. This allows the face to close and move back to the inside of the line of putt after impact. That is a natural stroke with no manipulation. Nothing is contrived, and a closing face creates a smoother roll. There are a few good putters who shut the clubface going back and then open it through impact. They can get on hot streaks, but this technique is hard to rely on. To be clear: The opening and closing of the face is subtle. You'll hardly notice it if you're watching a good putter. But it's im-portant. It doesn't matter if you have a pop stroke like Brandt Snedeker or a longer stroke like Ben Crenshaw. Let the putter swing naturally. And don't chase the ball.

It’s an annual thing. Each chapter, whether you know it or not, is led by people, a/k/a volunteers, who take their time and make life nice for you. Each chapter has bylaws (www.SinglesGolf.com/bylaws), and is required to elect a new chapter president each year and committee chair positions (golf, social, membership and communications). Other positions are appointed, e.g. secretary and treasurer. After everything’s in place, your chapter should look like this:

These people comprise your Board of Directors who is ulti-mately responsible for making sure things run right to assure more fun, fellowship and fairways. Your chapter’s bylaws require you to 1) set-up a Nomination’s Committee to seek individuals to serve in the various commit-tees, 2) have an election in October for a new chapter president and 3) have an election in November for the four (4) committee heads (golf, social, membership and communications). All new officers take office on January 1. If you’re interested in serving on the Board of your chapter, please don’t hesitate to speak up and become part of the deci-sion-making process. Contact your current leaders. As always, your service to your chapter is much appreciated. Terms are for one year only but it can be a life changing event in your life. Become a leader or support your newly elected chapter leaders. A job description for each position can be located at the following links:

Except in the event of any gross and willful negligence, I shall bring no claims, demands, actions and causes of action, and/or litigation, against Releasees for any economic and non-economic losses due to bodily injury, death, property damage, sustained by me in relation to the premises and operations of the golf course, including riding on golf carts or playing the game of golf. I am aware that participation in and/or observance of the golf activities and/or other activities sponsored by Releasees is or may be an inherently dangerous activity and may have health-related risks, and agree that I am voluntarily participating in and/or observing such activities with full knowledge of all dangers and risks involved. In addition, I hereby expressly assume all risks of injury, death, property loss, property damage, and other loss and damage which my occur relative to the participation in and/or observance of such activities. I understand and agree that this Release includes any and all claims based on the past, present and future ordinary negligence, action, and/or inaction of Releasees and/or Releasee’s directors, officers, employees, agents, and affiliates. I acknowledge that I have read this Release, have been fully and completely advised of the potential dangers incidental and inherent to the participation in and/or observance of the activities organized and/or sponsored by Releasees, and am fully aware of the legal consequences of signing the Application Form acknowledging this Release. I agree that this Release, waiver and indemnity agreement is intended to be as broad and inclusive as permitted by the laws of the State of my residency, and that if any portion of this Release is held invalid, it is agreed that the balance shall, notwithstanding continue in full force and effect. TERMS AND CONDITIONS: Membership in the American Singles Golf Association (ASGA) becomes effective upon receipt of dues and is valid for the period of time requested as indicated on the application form, subject to these TERMS AND CONDITIONS. I am 21 years or older, single (i.e. never married OR divorced OR legally separated OR widowed), and have read and accept, as a condition of joining, the RELEASE FROM LIABILITY AND EXPRESS ASSUMPTION OF RISK shown above. I understand that dues are non-refundable and are subject to change. I agree that all rosters, membership lists, e-mail addresses, or any other information provided to him/her as a result of their membership in ASGA are the property of ASGA and shall not be used for any purpose other than ASGA. I understand that the information provided on the Application for Membership may be reproduced on the chapter’s roster and distributed to other ASGA members and published on www.SinglesGolf.com, otherwise, I will note on the Application Form for certain info not to be published. OPT-OUT CLAUSE: I understand that I may, at any time, request any information not be reprinted, reproduced or distributed, such as home phone, address, etc. in or on any newsletter, roster, website, etc. Such request to be sent to info@SinglesGolf.com. ASGA may not be held liable for inadvertent publishing of opt-out information. AGREEMENT TO POLICIES OF THE NATIONAL ORGANIZATION AND LOCAL CHAPTER: I agree to abide by the “ASGA Policies” as outlined in the Policy section of www.SinglesGolf.com as well as my local chapter’s bylaws and policies.
