WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION
Physical Literacy 101:
Physical Literacy from Research to Practice
This session will provide valuable insights for recreation professionals, coaches, educators and health professionals. Also included will be a brief introduction to the Physical Literacy Assessment for Youth (PLAY) Tools which can identify gaps and track development of physical literacy skills.
Physical Literacy 102: Physical Literacy Enriched Programs
Participants will learn how to incorporate physical literacy enriched activities into a variety of indoor or outdoor settings. The activities can be easily implemented by a coach, physical educator or generalist teacher, recreation leader or parent. Physical literacy will be discussed as a means to enhance performance, increase active participation, as well as reduce risk of injury. Physical activity is a lot more fun when you are physically literate!
Physical Literacy 103:
PLAY Tools Workshop (Physical Literacy Assessment for Youth)
This workshop is designed to introduce physical literacy assessment tools focusing on the PLAY Tools as well as the Passport for Life, Canadian Assessment of Physical Literacy, and the 60 Minute Kids’ Club tools. Assessment will be discussed in various contexts including research, program evaluation, formative assessment and goal setting, parental engagement, and surveillance. The participants will be capable of using these tools by the end of the workshop.
