COMPANY PROFILE
Sporting Advantage’s Captain Active
Captain Active, the most famous superhero on Activeland, has landed his fruit and veggie rocket on
Planet Earth! His supercharged energy, enthusiasm and passion will motivate and inspire kids and
families to have loads of fun leading an active and healthy lifestyle!
Captain Active’s arch nemesis, the evil Lazy Cray Cray, has been working overtime to tempt people into a
sedentary, boring, unfulfilled and unhealthy lifestyle of lazing around staring at screens and eating greasy,
sugary, processed foods!
The Captain Active program incorporates an entertaining and interactive travelling stage show,
super energetic one hour Captain Active Kids Classes, online videos of game and cooking
demonstrations, a YouTube series in 'The Adventures of Captain Active',
school and early learning centre visits, online school teacher resource kits, a
partnership with the Live Out Loud Foundation, songs, e-books and activities,
merchandise and appearances at small and large events.
Captain Active (and his creator, Luke) are passionate about leading a
super active and fun lifestyle and won't stop until the whole universe is
having a blast being healthy and active, just like Captain Active.
Why Kids Need an Active Superhero Role Model
The emphasis on the prevention of childhood obesity around the
world is rapidly growing. The Australian Institute of Health and
Welfare indicate that currently in Australia, 1 in 4 children and
2 in 5 adults are obese or overweight. The Dieticians
Association of Australia indicate that these obese children
have a 25%-50% chance of becoming obese adults.
Australia’s 2014 National Report Card for Physical Activity in Children and
Young People indicates that the majority of children and young people are
not meeting the Australian daily physical activity guidelines. This was equally
reflected in national studies conducted in England, Scotland, Canada, USA, Ireland and South Africa.
The Longitudinal Study of Australia Children indicated that overweight and obese children experience a
higher level of psychosocial problems due to teasing, bullying and social exclusion.
An entertaining stage show is one of the most effective, powerful and widespread means of combating
the issue of childhood obesity and the future health of our country’s population. Wherever families live in
Australia, a superhero who focusses on a healthy active lifestyle, in an entertaining and engaging format,
will inspire kids to get off the couch, play games, ask for healthy foods and want go on adventures.
Put simply, after seeing Captain Active’s Awesome Active Adventure show, kids want to be active, just
like Captain Active!

Biography
Captain Active’s secret identity is Luke Wilson (but don’t tell anyone!). Luke has
a bachelor of Sport and Exercise Science from James Cook University and has
worked in the health, fitness, sport and recreation industry in Queensland since
1999. Luke’s experience includes roles as an exercise physiologist, personal trainer,
health and fitness centre manager, sport and recreation manager and senior advisor
for Queensland Government’s Department of Sport and Recreation. Luke founded
Sporting Advantage in 2009, a sports planning company based in Townsville. As
the managing director, he created the Captain Active program through identifying
the significant need for a positive role model based around health and fitness for
children to emulate and aspire to and Captain Active was born!
Luke was heavily involved in acting, drama, public speaking and performing on
stage at school. He performed roles in a number of local productions and
excelled in speech and drama subjects. He is adept at public speaking, regularly
presents to audiences and acts as the master of ceremonies at large events.
Luke is married and has two very active young boys aged 7 and 9, who
feature in a number of videos of Captain Active games and adventures and
occasionally make cameo appearances in the show!

AUDIENCE ENGAGEMENT
Audience Age
Captain Active’s Awesome Active Adventure show is super-duper entertaining for children from 2 to 12.
Parents with young families love the positive messages Captain Active provides and will be able to use
him as a tool to promote healthy eating and an active lifestyle within their household.
Community Engagement Overview
Captain Active's goal is to entertain the audience, so that kids will want to be like Captain Active and
parents and grandparents have an effective tool they can use to encourage their children to be active and
eat healthy foods.
Captain Active will always interact with the audience after the show. There will be lots of high 5's, photos
with families, answering of questions and encouragement for kids who tell Captain Active about their own
active adventures.
The Captain Active community engagement programs target children aged 3 to 11, school and early
learning centre teachers, health and fitness providers and parents with young families.
All Captain Active's multimedia platforms
support and reinforce the healthy
messages from the show. There are
demonstrations of Captain Active preparing
healthy meals in the kitchen, playing fun
games in the backyard and going on
outdoor adventures, including mountain
bike riding, fishing, hiking, camping, veggie
gardening and exercising. These can be
used by families, schools and early learning
centres to great effect, to encourage
children to continue to follow Captain
Active's example long after the show.
Captain Active can also offer his Kids Classes, which are an outdoor or indoor hour games session that
includes lots of running, jumping, crawling, catching, dodging, throwing, dancing, rolling and laughs.
Local fitness providers can also be trained to offer these classes. This can be a great way to offer further
value, benefits and positive outcomes for regional communities.
The Captain Active Classroom Teacher Resource Kit is a really useful way for primary school teachers to
incorporate further physical activity into their students’ days and reinforce the healthy, active messages
from the show!
When the Captain Active supersuit comes off, Luke also offers a range of 2-3 hour educational
workshops for sporting clubs, coaches, trainers and individuals wanting to lead a healthy lifestyle.

Multimedia Platforms
YouTube
• The Captain Active YouTube Channel
includes lots of fun and entertaining
challenges, game and cooking
demonstrations and adventures,
including Captain Active going fishing,
mountain bike riding, trail hiking, fresh
food shopping and camping. These
short clips would be an ideal
accompaniment to the television
series.
Website
• The Captain Active Website includes
lots of entertaining videos,
downloadable activities, information
about programs and events and heaps
of fun photos. This will continue to be
developed in line with future
progression to include further
interactive tools and activities.
Online Challenge
• Through the Captain Active website,
families can join a 4-8 week challenge
to get active together and improve
their eating habits. Designed similarly
to 12 week fitness challenges for
adults, the Captain Active Family
Challenge includes cooking
demonstrations, active games families
can play together, weekend adventure
ideas, monitoring of progress, rewards
and lots of encouragement and
support.
E-books, Music & DVDs
• Captain Active has 3 self-published e-books, 6 professionally recorded songs and 4 volumes of
DVDs. This catalogue is continuing to be developed and expanded.
Mobile App Development
• The creation of an interactive mobile application will allow families to access Captain Active
games, videos, recipes and activities wherever they are. For example, if they’re at the beach,
they can watch a video of what Captain Active does at the beach, then the kids can go off and do
the same!

Captain Active Kids Classes
The Captain Active Kids Classes are one of Captain Active’s most awesome
and effective weapons in his mission to defeat the evil Lazy Cray Cray.
The classes are structured to revolve around a set format of eight super
fun games mixed in with lots of imagination and creativity and very little
down time. There is an array of energetic music pumping in the
background that creates a fantastically enthusiastic atmosphere in the
room. Whilst playing, laughing and having a ball, kids will develop:
• Hand eye coordination
• Physical skills and abilities
• Self confidence
• Fine motor control
• Balance
• Team work
• Visual awareness
• Healthy eating habits
Captain Active can provide local health and fitness centres and
personal trainers with the training, equipment and resources required
to continue to offer the Captain Active Kids Classes. As shown in this picture, there’s
even a modified supersuit for them to wear so they become a real Cap Ac! There’s an
ongoing licensing fee for this program, however, it is an ideal way to continue to
motivate and inspire local children to be active and healthy.
For children to attend a Captain Active Kids Class it’s $10/child. Alternatively, Councils
or sporting organisations can provide these events to the community to attend at no
cost, for $330/session.
Educational Workshops
Whilst visiting towns performing the Captain Active show, Luke
can also present a series of professional, researched and
enjoyable sport, recreation, health and fitness workshops that
target general community members or sporting organisations.
These educational topics include Strength and Conditioning
Training; Nutrition; Sports Performance; Club Administration;
Sports Marketing, Sponsorship and Fundraising; Grants
Writing; Volunteer Management; Strategic Planning; Event
Management; Committee Roles and Basic Sports Psychology.
Councils and sporting organisations can provide these
workshops to the community for $550/session.

PRODUCTION DETAILS
Technical Summary
The show requires little technical support from the venue.
Example Schedule
Bump in - 7am to 8:30am
Show - 10am to 11am
Post show meet and greet - 11:10am to 11:40am
Bump out – 1pm to 2pm
Crew Required From Venue
We require one crew member from the venue to
provide access and guidance around the facility so that
we can prepare the set.
Stage
Our stage requirements are very basic and can be
adapted to suit most venues.
Lighting
If we are performing the show at a basic venue, we don’t
require any special lighting. If we are performing in a venue
with lighting effects available, it creates a further dimension
to the show to have a technician from the venue changing
the lighting throughout the show to match the story.
Sound
If we are performing the show at a basic venue, we can
provide a PA system that is appropriate for an audience of
up to 100 people. If we are performing in a venue with an
existing PA system available, it is beneficial to play the show’s
music and sound effects, along with Captain Active’s microphone through this
system.
Wardrobe
We only require an area for Captain Active to put on his supersuit (telephone booths are not preferred).
Freight Notes
All the elements of the show’s set will arrive in a vehicle that can easily be moved into the venue.
