Project Presentation Leap4FNSSA is a Coordination and Support Action (CSA) whose main objective is to bring together European and African institutions to engage in a Long-Term Sustainable Partnership Platform for research and innovation on Food and Nutrition Security and Sustainable Agriculture (FNSSA). Under the aegis of the EU-AU High Level Policy Dialogue (HLPD), LEAP4FNSSA aims to achieve its main objective through: Increased synergies and coherence between actors, projects, initiatives and programmes, through the development of institutional alliances and clusters of projects. An enhanced learning environment and large knowledge base, including M&E, and established communication between relevant programmes and initiatives in order to improve European- African cooperation. A firm institutional and financial sustainability of the Partnership, including co-funding mechanisms. The expected impact of LEAP4FNSSA is to transform the existing AU-EU FNSSA Partnership into a Bi-continental Platform for collaboration to optimize the implementation of the AU-EU Roadmap on FNSSA approved in 2016. The project has a 4-years duration, from November 2018 to October 2022. Project Results A major contribution to the implementation of the AU-EU Roadmap on FNSSA by organizing efficient support to the HLPD Bureau. A Bi-continental Platform for collaboration between diverse actors dedicated to the implementation of the AU-EU Roadmap on FNSSA, including a governance system and co-funding mechanisms. Coherence, synergy and optimization of R&I projects and programmes in the FNSSA domain, in particular through clustering. Sustainability & Synergies The EU-Africa partnership on FNSSA is fully in line with the 2018 'Africa Europe Alliance for Sustainable Investment and Jobs' which calls for greater investment in education and skills at continental and national level, to match skills and jobs, also including scholarships and exchange. In this context, LEAP4FNSSA facilitates: 1. The active participation of many African and European higher educations in the project consortium (RUFORUM & The Association of Commonwealth Universities) 2. The openness of LEAP4FNSSA activities to all institutions of research and education communities interested in our efforts to boost cooperation 3. The strengthening of African higher education institutions’ collaborative capacities by joining the Bi-continental Platform. Supporting the Bureau of the HLPD in implementing the FNSSA Roadmap through a wide range of activities such as studies, reports, events etc. ; 2. Creating strategic alliances of actors committed to align their R&I activities to the FNSSA Roadmap, and setting up sustainable joint funding mechanisms; 3. Strengthening the knowledge base by developing new instruments for data analysis and knowledge networks, and by enhancing capacities for data management and communication; 4. Facilitating the dissemination of information already existing or generated by LEAP4FNSSA and the partners.
