Our school is a branch of Istituto Professionale per Industria e lArtigianato (Professional School for Crafts and Industry) of Sarnano, in the province of Macerata, in the Region Marche.

Besides the head school in Sarnano, the I.P.I.A. has two branches, one in the town of San Ginesio, the other one is our school in Tolentino.

Our school was opened in 1952 when the old Arts and Crafts municipal school was transformed in a State school by order of the Ministry of Education and it was moved to the Casa del Balilla built in 1930-31 by the fascist podest Pacifico Massi.

The order stated that the school was intended to train students for qualified jobs in the sectors of crafts and industry.

It was then a branch of the Professional School of Corridonia. From the school year 1964-65 it became a branch of the Professional School of San Severino Marche until the school year 1993-94 when it became a branch of the Professional School of Sarnano, as it is still today.In that same year a new course of Fashion was added to the traditional course of Mechanics and since 1999-2000 both courses have been completed from the 1st to the 5th year.At the moment besides the traditional courses the school offers two additional qualifications: Repairer technician for cars and motorbikes and Fashion designer with the purpose of training skilled workers in these sectors to meet the requirements of the world of work.

He was a sculptor and illustrator of Italian glories, he lived in the second half of the 19th century in San Severino and he died in Rome in 1893. Among his most famous works there is the monument to the Cairoli brothers, situated in the Pincio park in Rome and the equestrian monument Vittorio Emanuele in Milan. Two of his marble bust, one portraying Manzoni, the order Garibaldi, are one display in the modern art national gallery in Rome. Some of Ercole Rosas best works are in Cagliari art gallery, Mozzi
Borgetti library in Macerata and in the museum of Risorgimento in Rome.

Our class 3Moda has done a project work for Christmas and has made a wonderful calendar for the year 2010. We have designed a sketch for each month. Every sketch has been designed by hand then scanned and elaborated by the computer programmes Adobe Illustrator and Photo shop. Then it has been with graphic and pictorial design techniques enriched with backgraunds andcoption writings.

In our school there is a mechanic laboratory where students regularly go to practice what they have studied in theory and to learn how machine tools work. A wide variety of machine tools are used in engineering to perform several function: they range from small hand tools, such as a drill to make holes, to the most complex and large ones. Among the stationary power driven machine tools that we use there are: -the lathe(used for turning, boring, parting and drilling); -the drilling machine(used for cutting holes into metal wood or other materials); -the grinding machine(for making surfaces smooth); -the milling machine(for machining irregular surfaces against a rotating cutter). Among the main hand tools we have: -the caliper; -the drill; -the saw; -the jaw chuck; -the screwdriver; -the micrometer. These hand tools are used on the work bench. On each machine tool we also have the most important safety signs witch help the operator to perform his work in a safe manner.
