A New Partnership is born
Eaglesring Pty Ltd, a company establish under the laws of South Africa, with its head office in Johannesburg, South Africa and Mabey & Johnson, a company established under the laws of the United
Kingdom, with its head office in London has formed a joint venture.
The purpose of the joint venture is for the marketing, sales and distribution of Mabey and Johnson bridges and related products.

Introduction
The Rural Bridge Programme is based on our renowned “Rural Bridge Programme” implemented in many countries worldwide.
The “Rural Bridge Programme” reflects the political priority of Rural Development,in the context of the reconstruction and development programme (RDP)
The Rural Bridge Programme is proposed with the sole purpose of bettering the lives and welfare of South Africans especially living in rural areas.
The Mabey Bridge Programme enables a fast-track replacement of critical infrastructure damaged during the 2000 floods or through years of neglect. The permanent bridges are built quickly and efficiently within budget and timescale,with the use of the accepted labour intensive methods

Do we remember the 2000 floods?
Flood Damage
The floods of 1999/2000 caused many hundreds of road and bridge washaways.
Still today, after four years, the problem of missing crossings still exists, and will get worse after the next rains.
It has been determined following presentations to Eastern Cape, Mpumalanga and Kwa-Zulu Natal, that there are about 262 missing crossings.
The reason that the missing crossings have not been replaced with bridges, is that we do not possess the necessary Emergency Bridges.
The floods of 1999/2000 caused many hundreds of road and bridge washaways.

Mabey Bridging
The need for Mabey Bridging is well established, and the type of bridging suitable for this application is Mabey Bridging.
The Mabey Bridging is economical compared to other bridges, is quick to build, typically one week, flexible in length so meets all requirements up to 60m, long-life and maintenance free.

Meetings were held with Lieutenant-Colonel C van Wyk, SANDF Representative of the Disaster Management Command Centre on 2 November 2001, in regard to the possible acquisition of line of communication bridges for disaster relief – in use by the British Army, the Nato countries and is currently used by the US Army and Marines in Iraq.
Pro-forma Invoice. To the supply of Mabey Compact 200 Steel Bridging was done, and the budget was for 20 single lane Mabey Bridges for the Army
It was confirmed that the SA Army Engineer Formation possesses the facility to accommodate the said equipment at 35 Engineer Support Regiment (35 ESR) in the East Rand.

We had the pleasure of giving a Presentation on the modern Mabey Bridge to Brigadier General LC Nobanda and Colonel Swart and several colleagues.
This is what they had to say: The modern Mabey Bridge is far superior to the previous
generation of Bailey bridges Typically the modern Mabey bridge is half the weight of the
original Bailey bridge Uses one third the Panels, one quarter the number of Transoms,
and carries heavier vehicles The bridge is ideal as Temporary, Semi-Permanent or Permanent
applications specifically for replacing damaged civilian bridges.

Substructure Approximately 50% of the Project cost is in the Substructure, and Mabey will utilise local
South African Black Empowerment Company and Contractor for this element.

Unless the problem is addressed urgently, the infrastructure destroyed by the 2000 floods gets worse every year.
A Finance Package is available so that the bridges can be provided within a 3 year period whilst allowing repayment in line with your budget cycles.
The Bridge supplier, Mabey & Johnson, have experience in providing finance for such programmes to other countries. They are co-operating with Barclays PLC, who have provided a finance package to the South African Government at both national and local spheres.
