NTFP Centre of Excellence

13 July 2015

Objectives • NCE was established in 2008 (started

functioning on 15 April 2008) under Tripura JICA Project to address the issue of NTFPs and value addition in a comprehensive manner, with the broad objectives:

– Increasing the productivity of bamboo, cane & other NTFPs in the region through assured provision of QPM & technical services;

– Promoting livelihood improvement & poverty alleviation activities on an industrial scale & establishment of CCFCs;

– Capacity building of various stakeholders in handling bamboo, cane & other NTFPs; &

– Facilitating marketing through establishing PPPs.

NCE Vision • “NCE will become a premier institute in its area

of specialization, providing services not only within the state, but in the entire NER in future.”

• “NCE will be established as an autonomous society under Societies Registration Act, 1860.” Reasons:

– “NCE will require professional staff, whose

recruitment by a Society will be far easier than by a Government Agency, which has to follow the Government regulations on expert procurement,

– For the NCE to be sustained after the closure of TFIPAP, it is necessary to have its own income generation mechanism.”

NCE Vision …

• NCE to be the defining factor of success

of TFIPAP.

• On closure of TFIPAP, the PMU with its

assets to be integrated into NCE.

• Inputs by specialists on NTFP/ NCE.

• Total budget provision: Rs 7.98 crore.
