Shared Financial Responsibil-ity

As Filipinos, we are not one to shy away from any responsi-bilities. Our innate “kalooban” is “bayanihan”. We all help together in any way we can when someone needs us. Our community always rallies sup-port when asked.

The FAGKC as the umbrella organization of the Sinag-Tala, Sampaguita Choir, Senior Coun-cil and other groups is calling all of us for help. Let us not forget that we all belong to FAGKC. The Philippine House and the Filipino Cultural Center belong to all of us.

The membership fees and money the Ways and Means Committee raises have not been enough to pay all of the bills that the FAGKC receives. All of us use the Filipino Cultural Cen-ter and the Philippine House for our practices and fundraising events.

Would it be prudent for each group to voluntarily share part of the money they raise with the FAGKC for the maintenance of both centers? Should all of the groups share financial responsi-bility for our buildings? Maybe this is something we should all seriously consider. —Amy Mesina, Chair, Ways and Means Committee

My Prayer by Pure Duque Soriano

Page 4 Tambul i August 2004

Lord, thou knowest better than I know myself that now I am old and will grow even older. Keep me from being talkative and particularly from the fatal habit of thinking I (know too much on everything) must say something on every subject on every occasion. Lord, release me from my craving to try to straighten out everybody’s affairs. With my store of wisdom, it seems a pity not to use it all……but thou knowest, Lord that I want a few of these at the end.

Lord, teach me the glorious lesson that occasionally it’s possible that I may be mistaken. Keep me reasonably sweet, patient and understanding. I don’t want to be a “saint”…some of them are hard to live with, but a sour old person is one of the crowning works of the devil.

Lord, help me to extract all possible fun out of life. There are so many funny things around us, and I do not want to miss any of them. Amen.

Pure Duque Soriano (Pure Heart)

To FAGKC President Aniceto Jalbuena!

Thank you For your

Leadership.

I look out of the window beyond my room, To my amazement all the flowers are in bloom, Shades of violet, crimson, and yellow; Enough to ease the pain and heart to mellow.

Over the ocean as I gaze yonder, Sea gulls and birds are happy I wonder, The tide had subsided considerably; And big raindrops kept falling torrentially.

Toward the shore a bottle was gently tossed, The kind, dainty waves carried across the coast, As the content came closer to my vision; Manuscript inside I’d guess with a mission.

Like a little child, I grabbed the bottle, With my eager gleaming eyes, you could tell, So nervous, so clumsy, it slipped off my hands; Down it fell and caught wet flying sand.

Ahhh, I have it in my hands finally, Opened the almost mutilated paper so eagerly, As the winds bring drops of rain that blind my eyes; My eyesight was hindered, my eagerness multi-plies.

It reveals a message address to the world, So very clear, so brief yet so bold, It conveys a reminder to those being misled; Exert thy effort, seek the right road ahead.

Shower common neighbors with unconditional

love, To love more souls does not hurt any dove, Always carry a smile that’s returned to everybody; Whether problem or any ache best that somebody.

Look around you to help the needy, Sharing goods, giving aid to anybody, Without any doubt and any expectation; Without limit one should allow extension.

Christ’s second coming is far more certain, All the scriptures and Bible they all contain, Some prophecies were not truly fulfilled; During the first coming so well revealed.

The second coming is far more demanding, To have God’s blessing one passes eternity de-scending, A believer you must be, so one will be taken; As death is the second coming and not to be mis-taken.

The sinners are left on earth to suffer, The unbelieving dead and all sinners together, The greedy become greedier and stay so unhappy; For there’s more to life than only money.

Namaste!!! Vi Cortez Ignacio, Ph.D.
