    Anthony Minghella / director

It is a truly landscape, where is it possible to go and create a world - particularlya period world where you can rotate a camera for 360 and not have any impedimentwhatsoever to the world you are creating. There was a great willingness to go on andadventure with us and I would certainly recommend Romania to anybody contemplating a movie there

Franco Zefirelli / directorI have found there the excitement and the positive attitude that other big European studios have lost.

    Costa Gavras

...the friendly environment and professional people...

Butch KaplanThere is to go-for-it attitude in Romania which is just a phenomenon; the locals accommodate other cultureseffortlessly. I came from Los Angeles and to find this atmosphere in Eastern Europe is truly amazing.

Joel Soisson / producerVisually its a country that has a great deal of variety of landscapes: city, village and probably, most importantly, history. You can film all sorts of historical periods, and the ability to buildhere is phenomenal. The sets that we have, the price of those sets I dont know where elsein the world could do that. And the technical skill, and the artistry, is top notch. So those thingsyou cannot find here, you build. And you build it much cheaper than you would anywhere else.

Michael Grade / Pinewood Shepperton Studioslabor costs are much lower, their construction costs are much lower

Francisc Ford Coppola/director"I have come here to rediscover myself as an artist."

Where to shootThe most fascinating about Romania is probably the fact, that you can find almost every kind of europeanlandscape around 250 kilometers away from the capital. There are the major, well differentiated relief steps: thehighest is represented by the Carpathian Mountains, the middle by the Sub-Carpathians, the hills andtablelands, and the low one by the plains, theriver meadows and the Danube Delta

    Europe a miniature

One of the most beautiful country in Eastern Europe, a nation who has a lot history behind, full of medievalvillages, cosmopolitan cities (its capital, Bucharest, was once known as "The Paris of the East"), CountDracula's Transylvania, a rich variety of landscapes, snowy peaks, and a Black Sea coastline ended withDelta Danube - Territory of the World Heritage Site.

The mountains trenching in the shape of an arch in the central part cover31% of the countrys area. The hills and the tablelands which descend fromthem occupy 36%, and the plains, extending towards the southern and thewestern borders, take up 33%. Encircling like a crown the Transylvaniatableland ( 400-600 m altitude ), the Carpathian Moldoveanu Peak in theFagaras massif 2544 m, are in turn surroundedby a belt of hills andelevations which rise no higher than 1000 m.To the east and south-east lie the two plateaus the Moldavian Tableland and

the Dobrudja tableland with altitudes of 400-600 m.

The plains formerly sea and lake bottoms cover the southern and western parts of the country and are low andextremely flat. Between the Carpathians and the Danube lies the Romanian Plain, the principal granary of thecountry, and to the west stretches the Western Plain, which is crossed by many rivers. The multi-tiered relief brings

about a similar disposition of the climate, the soil, the vegetation and the fauna and implicitly of the humansettlements.

Close to the Carpathian Mountains are the Berca Mud Volcanoes

near Berca in Buzu County. The Muddy Volcanoes are also called

    the gates of hell.

Why Romania is one of the most attractive markets for filmmaker? Thebeauty of the landscape, some like Europe a miniature, with uniqueregions like the Danube Delta, the minivulcans of Buzau or the prairieof Tulcea, the experience of the film community, built in half a centurybeing a traditionally film nation. The prices, the big variety of originallocations, the state of the art studio facilities, or the enthusiasms ofyoung people who really enjoy their profession all this together makethe strength of the Romanian film market.

Speaking about prices, they raised in entire Europe. We are proud aboutthe fact that we succeed in maintaining a stabile level of prices. Why? We

are some kind of institution, a stabile factor for film people in Romania.Others might come and go, we stayed. We are treating our people fair, offering them continuity also in times where the things are not as theyshould. That fore we are obtaining also very fare conditions of oursuppliers. Regarding the prices of set construction and costume buildingwe are almost without concurrence in Europe.
