THE STORY OF THE WOMAN WHO PAVED THE WAY FOR THE HEROIC WORK OF NURSES TODAY.

Most people know Florence Nightingale was a compassionate and legendary nurse, but fewer know her full story. Born in 1820 into a rich English family, Florence Nightingale was passionate about medicine from an early age. In a world where it was normal for women of society to remain at home, she broke through gender barriers and pioneered a profession in a field then reserved for men.

A trailblazer, she led a group of nurses to care for wounded soldiers during the Crimean war, and developed revolutionary views about hygiene and sanitation. Hailed as a heroine by Queen Victoria and the British people upon her return from the front, she quickly established St. Thomas’ Hospital and the Nightingale Training School for Nurses, and continued her efforts to reform healthcare.

Blending archive, testimonies and reenactments, this film looks into the life of this extraordinary woman and her brilliant legacy that benefits everyone’s medical care today. A riveting portrait of an activist, a social reformer, a statistician and a nurse who defied the stifling conventions and marked history.

HOW WERE THE LAW AND JUSTICE PERVERTED TO SERVE NAZI IDEOLOGY?

After the war, Hitler, Himmler and more than twenty high-ranking Nazis tried in Nuremburg were held responsible for committing crimes against humanity during the Second World War. But these barbarous acts were, at the time, completely legal under German law.

How was Hitler able to set up such an extraordinary system of repression that was, to all intents and purposes, actually lawful? And what role did jurists play in this reinterpretation of the law that permitted such exterminations?

Through the fate of three emblematic characters - a jurist, an executioner and an opponent of the regime - and thanks to archive footage and expert witnesses, this unprecedented historical investigation offers a new reading of the Third Reich. By shedding light on these shadowy areas, it reveals how the law was used by the Nazis to justify the unjustifiable and authorize the most heinous of crimes, and how Germany’s highest intellectual caste was responsible for establishing a murderous totalitarian system.

A COMPELLING AND GLAMOROUS SAGA TO EXPLORE ONE OF THE JEWELS OF ROYAL ARCHITECTURE IN EUROPE.

With well over a thousand rooms, corridors, frescoes, sculptures and sparkling with gilt, stretching over a vast park… The Chateau de Fontainebleau is an architectural masterpiece spanning 8 centuries of history. Home to kings and emperors, from the 12th century to Napoleon III’s reign, this priceless timeline of heritage was the site of countless historical events. Almost destroyed during the French revolution, it represents more history and art than any other royal residence in Europe. Yet, its incredible historical, artistic and political wealth remains unexplored. Thanks to a skillful blend of dramatic reenactments, 3D reconstructions, specials effects and through the eyes of Charles Percier - a young French architect who sketched every room during the French revolution - this docudrama brings this palace back to life, as it evolves with the whims of its royal residents. A tableau of passion, pride, love and war to discover a hidden side of history.

BENITO MUSSOLINI, FROM HIS RISE TO POWER IN 1922 TO HIS DOWNFALL IN 1943.

He embodied the alliance between Italy and Nazi Germany. For the Italian people, Benito Mussolini represented the new Caesar, a hero of antiquity and the heir to imperial Rome.

But who knows the true story of the Duce and, through him, Italian Fascism? Why did this man, who was long indifferent to racial matters, become the Latin alter ego of the Führer? What place does this man hold in the hierarchy of tyrants?

100 years after Mussolini’s rise to power, thanks to official archives and amateur footage, together with testimonies of those who lived under the Mussolini Regime - former supporters or victims -, this film explores the mechanisms of Fascist power, the cult of violence, and state political repression, steering Italy into disaster.

THE LITTLE-KNOWN NATURAL PHENOMENON OF THE FLYING RIVERS REVEALED.

Often considered as the "beating heart of the Earth", the trees in the Amazon absorb water from the ground and pump out billion of tons of water vapor a day into vast "flying rivers", essential to the environmental balance.

But what if this natural phenomenon was to disappear? What would be the ecological consequences on our planet?

From the Amazon rainforest to some of the world’s top laboratories and research centers, and thanks to 3D animation sequences, this scientific investigation deciphers the mechanisms of this extraordinary phenomenon.

A race against time to discover the Amazon rainforest from a climate perspective, questioning our planet’s biological equilibrium and human responsibility.

WHY ARE OUR BRAINS WIRED TO IGNORE CLIMATE CHANGE?

We have never been so aware of the risk of collapse due to climate change. And yet, it seems we are unable to make the collective change the situation seems to demand.

How can we explain our collective inertia in the face of the ongoing environmental crisis? Why can’t our brain process global warming?

This scientific investigation decodes the behavioral mechanisms which explain this collective "schizophrenia" through eye-opening experiences.

With a comprehensible approach, the latest advances in neuroscience, behavioral psychology and anthropology will reveal the surprising cognitive bias, contradictions, and fears we harbor when it comes to changing our lifestyles, and may even help us to overcome them.CLIMATE CHANGE:

PLUNGE INTO THE MICROSCOPIC UNIVERSE THAT THRIVES IN OUR SKY.

Bacteria, viruses, but also fungus spores, algae, pollen, and even insects: microorganisms are constantly drifting through the sky.

How can so many living beings find their way into the air and be circulating in our atmosphere? How do they survive? What is their influence on our lives and our entire living world?

Biodiversity, health, climate – scientists are only now discovering just how much this discreet airborne "plankton" affects our lives and the entire ecosystem on Earth. But despite its many virtues, this magic matter is now under threat from human activity.

With help from experts and using 3D visual effects, this scientific investigation will take us to the heart of a world that is still very little understood, and will reveal the diversity and fragility of the air we breathe.

A CAPTIVATING LOOK AT THE WILD COUSIN OF MAN’S BEST FRIEND.

By domesticating the dog, man has created a multitude of animals, selecting an aptitude or morphological aspect according to his needs and desires. But long before our four-legged best friend learned to fetch tennis balls or watch football from the couch, its ancestors were purely wild animals! And these species developed their own tactics and qualities to adapt to their ecosystem.

Bush dogs, maned wolves, dingoes, raccoon dogs... What abilities did these free-roaming species develop to communicate, cooperate and survive on their own, in the wild? What behaviors do our domestic dogs share with their wild relatives? And how did they thrive in the animal kingdom?

From Argentina to Sweden, from India to Zimbabwe, Japan and Australia, this miniseries follows these wild animals as they evolve in their environment, to observe their morphological aspects and understand their social skills and particular history with humans. A close look at what make these species so unique, and what connects them to their domestic cousin.

Never before has biodiversity been in such danger, especially because of noise and light pollution.

From London to New Delhi, from Paris to Santiago de Chile, lockdowns made essential by the COVID-19 pandemic have given the natural world an unprecedented chance to reclaim what we have taken from it. And as wild animals have evolved in this more peaceful environment, scientists have seized the opportunity to examine and record their behavior. From egg-laying turtles to migrating birds and mating insects, the positive effects are already being witnessed.

By following the large-scale experiments launched across the world a few months ago, this film observes what happens in the wild when nights are dark and days are silent.

THE FASCINATING STORY OF HOW ANIMALS AND PLANTS USE COOPERATION TO SURVIVE IN ONE OF THE MOST PUNISHING PLACES ON EARTH.

New science from world experts reveals that collaboration plays a major role in animal evolution.

And there is no better region of the world where this is more vividly on display than in the mighty Kalahari desert in southern Africa.

Here, more than elsewhere, animals have found incredible ways to survive: secret pacts, tacit alliances, determination and cooperation. And not just between next of kin. Often with complete strangers. Ground squirrels living alongside yellow mongooses, and helping to protect them from predators like the Cape cobra. Sociable weavers co-habiting with pygmy falcons and lizards in giant communal nests. And drongos acting as alarm-calling sentinels for meerkats as they hunt for food, in return for some of the insects they flush.

Using the very latest camera technology, this mini-series reveals the incredible tactics animals and plants use to survive in one the most punishing places on Earth.

WHAT TRANSFORMATIONS SHOULD SCHOOL EXPERIENCE IN THE DIGITAL ERA?

Facial recognition, 5G, AI... Technology is transforming our means of production and how we learn. And although our "digital natives" adopt such tech extremely quickly, unlike their parents and teachers, this relentless flow of information often leads to a disconnect, triggering fresh problems such as dropping out, screen addiction, and online bullying.

Such profound shifts should perhaps lead us to reconsider how we educate in order to give students the tools to construct their personalities, to tell truth from lies, and to be able to face the world of tomorrow.

Through examples of different educational approaches from Switzerland, Portugal, Estonia, India, Cambodia, Germany, France, and Togo, this series examines the people reinventing education. Together, they are developing new schooling systems that are better adapted to the dynamics of children, that are less sedentary and punitive, and more focused on freedom, curiosity, teamwork, and stimulating intelligence.

Phone apps, TV shows, record-selling books, in-sell shows, personal coaching… Today, happiness is everywhere, and it has never been so easy to achieve. It would seem we just have to listen to the experts, and we’ll be happy forever more.

Transformed into a social and moral injunction, happiness has infiltrated everything from our personal lives to our work, and even public policy. And while this modern-day obsession seems innocent, it is also the focus of a very lucrative industry.

But where does this imperative for happiness come from? How does it work, and who is behind it? From the USA to Denmark, the UK, and Belgium, this investigation takes us behind the scenes of positive psychology. Philosophers, sociologists, economists, and psychiatrists will explore this phenomenon that is among the most captivating and worrying of our times and will reveal how it is linked to neoliberalism and capitalism.

THE PORTRAIT OF A TIMELESS FOLK ICON.

World-renowned and respected, Joni Mitchell, heiress of the "folk" revival and pop star of the 60s and 70s, continues to inspire new generations of lyricists and singers with her rich lyrics and unique guitar style. From Jimi Hendrix to Prince or Taylor Swift, she influenced everyone who heard her music. Throughout a career spanning more than 40 years, she has never given in to fashion, which makes her success both unique and mysterious.

What makes this woman, nicknamed the "Queen of Folk", such a contemporary icon? What has shaped her since 1954, when she was spotted in a small town in Canada? How does she stand out from the other rock singers of her time?

Through archives (clips, concerts, interviews with Leonard Cohen, Bob Dylan, James Taylor...), this film portrays one of the most daring trajectories in popular and folk music. The story of an artist, a musical movement and an entire era.
