The Isle of Wight has 15 years of heritage in hosting Extreme Sports

Festivals. Big Blue Festival is the breakthrough extreme sports festival in the

UK boasting the UK’s biggest freesports park, sports in land, sea and air –

combined with the party atmosphere you would expect from an Isle of Wight

Festival

Over 20 extreme sports

Big Blue accommodates over 20 extreme sports with events on water, land, air and

beach, and music to chill out to on the green

The Big Blue Freesports Park

The Big Blue Freesports Park provides a dramatic festival centrepiece, covering

multiple extreme sports with professional displays and competitions in everything from

BMX and Skateboard, to Beat Box, Graffiti Jams and Park DJs

For those want to get interactive

„Play‟ gives the public the chance to have a go and taste the sports!

A Big Screen and Live Stage

A Big Screen will show live coverage from around the Festival, providing sponsor

images and messages to the crowd.

Newton Faulkner to perform on the beach from early evening, and a DJ party with

Rob Da Bank will entertain into the night

• More mainstream than ever before – attracting more big brands

• Many sports are now, or soon to be, in the Olympics: Wind Surfing (Since LA 1984) Skateboarding

(debut 2012) Kite Surfing (IKA 2016) BMX (Beijing 2008)

• London 2012 - extreme sports street demo at the opening ceremony

• Appeals to youth and family markets - funky youths - active families

• Many have low cost entry points – anyone can have a go

• Sport England's Active People Survey 2008/09, extreme sports experienced increased participation

rates whilst more mainstream sports such as football have experienced a significant decrease

• USA - participation in Climbing + 63%, whilst Baseball -28%

• “It's estimated that over 2 million people - 5% of the British population - now participate in the

various forms of extreme sports in the UK”. The Observer, March 2005

• 8% of the UK population have participated in windsurfing,

30% state they would like to try if they had the opportunity,

(Mintel, 2005)

• Skateboarding - 49% increase in participation from

2002-08, with 14 million people participating in the US

20,000 over the 3 days. Confirmation of the

Red Arrows will be a major factor

Projected ‘main village’ footfall is 3,000

per day over 3 days (9,000 total)
