KEY MESSAGES (44)

What are the critical actions businesses should be taking now (Full 12 point essential actions here)

Non-VAT Registered companies will need to apply for an EORI number to continue to export and import if there is a no deal All VAT registered companies that traded with the EU in the last year will automatically be given an EORI number via HMRC Companies who are responsible for making the customs declaration to relevant EU customs authority will need an EU EORI number Itrsquos anticipated that auto-enrolment will be complete by 30 September 2019

Decide on whether you want to hire a person or business to handle customs documentation for you or whether you can do this in-house Many Chambers of Commerce also provide a customs documentation service in Scotland

Register to use Transitional Simplified Procedures to avoid making full customs declarations for imports at borders and postpone paying import duties

Identify the tariffs that would apply to exports and imports (also see our tariffs FAQs) In addition businesses should estimate any additional costs (such as delays owing to regulatory checks at borders) and likely currency fluctuations and carry out cash flow projections to assess the need to access additional working capital

Be able to proactively support any EU employees to register under the EU Settlement Scheme by using the Employer Toolkit All EU citizens wishing to remain in the UK must register under the Scheme

Check your suppliers are Brexit-ready and reassure them and your customers of your preparedness Use this time to identify alternative suppliers that could reduce risks to your business

Speak with their bank in the first instance to discuss flexing existing borrowing and any new borrowing requirements

If their business operates across the EU or exchanges personal data with partners in the EEA consider possible changes that need to be made ahead of the UK leaving the EU to stay compliant

To ensure that the Prepare for Brexit support reaches as many Scottish companies as possible its important for us to track our progress to understand howwherewhen our customers are consuming this material so that we can optimise the activity

With that in mind we have created a set of tracking codes for partners and stakeholders to use which will allow us all to see where traffic to wwwprepareforbrexitscot is coming from what posts are generating leads and how they are performing

It would be incredibly helpful if you could create unique URLs for your activity using the parameters below You may already have an internal system to do this but if you donrsquot you can use Googlersquos Campaign URL Builder (httpsga-dev-toolsappspotcomcampaign-url-builder ) If you have any questions or require any support please let us know (Chloewilsonscotentcouk )
