Preparations for Irradiation o ABCN250-Hybrid (1) 10 th August 2015, Petal/Stave Meeting Following-up on Craig’s plans for irradiation at the B’ham cyclotron: Initially our old ABCN250 hybrids, later single-chip ABC130 boards We have Stave09 ABCN250 barrel hybrids available which work in the lab, epoxy-glued in 2013. Candidates: One hybrid with 8 chips working (good for first test of the setup and initial irradiation), one hybrid with 16 chips working (for more serious irradiation tests later). Repeated tests with both hybrids now with Atlys. (Note: ‘18 chip hybrid’ found not to work ok in recent tests, ruled-out now. Note those hybrid are from our very first wire-bonding trials, panel ‘B2’). Preferably not use fully working (20 chip) hybrids (keep them as benchmarks) Main task now: How to move all the infrastructure to the B’ham cyclotron. Main issue there: How to fix and connect hybrid inside the coldbox. • Following-up on Craig’s plans for irradiation at the B’ham cyclotron: Initially our old ABCN250 hybrids, later single-chip ABC130 boards

• We have Stave09 ABCN250 barrel hybrids available which work in the lab, epoxy-glued in 2013. Candidates: One hybrid with 8 chips working (good for first test of the setup and initial irradiation), one hybrid with 16 chips working (for more serious irradiation tests later). • Phone chat with Tony and PaulD last week (with Phil, Kostas, Juergen at B’ham): Quickest and easiest should be to cut-out one slice from the hybrid panel, to have bond-pads and IDC connectors, remove 8-chip hybrid from its panel, wirebond it onto the slice, fix it onto aluminium plate which fits into holder inside coldbox, connect is up with power and data cables. Test this in our lab and then move it into the coldbox.

• Tony kindly offered to send empty hybrid panel from L’pool (from module production).Other very useful info: Use on-chip temperature sensors. We’ve not used them before ! More details welcome, are they like PT100 ?

• Quite long distance between coldbox and control-room, about 15m: Current plan is to have Atlys inside, but behind lead wall (other groups have a PC there, so shouldn’t harm it). Already installed 15m long network cable and 15m power cable between coldbox and control-room. Keep PSU outside for power-ramping and also quick emergency power-off (will test voltage drop on 15m cable)Used ~6m data cable between hybrid and Atlys. We’ve already tested a 4.5m data cable. PC can be moved from lab into control room (we have 3 installed with ITSDAQ)

• Also talk to RichardT (Toronto) about their irradiation experience at CERN (SEUs ? Odd power consumption ?)

• In parallel: Work on improving humidity and temperature monitoring in coldbox (with ArduinoDuo, mostly operational), optimising nitrogen flushing procedure and box sealing
