Chapter I: RF Optimization Introduction1 Basic Processes for RF OptimizationOnce all the sites are installed and verification is complete, RF optimization starts. In some situationsfor a tight schedule, RF optimization might start after the construction of partial sites is complete. RFoptimization is usually performed after 80% of total sites in a cluster are constructed.

RF optimization stage is one major stage of RNO. It aims at the following aspects:_ Optimizing signal coverage_ Control pilot pollution_ Control SHO Factor based on DTRF optimization also involves optimizing list of neighbor cells. When the indexes like DT and traffic measurement after RF adjustment meets KPI requirements, RFoptimization stage ends. Otherwise you must reanalyze data and adjust parameters repeatedly until allKPI requirements are met. After RF optimization, RNO comes to parameter optimization stage.

Figure 1.1: RF optimization flow chatIn 01, the data collection, problem analysis, and parameter adjustment might be repeatedly performedaccording to optimization goal and actual on-site situations until RF indexes meet KPI requirements.

Data CollectionCollect the following data:_ UE and scanner data_ DT_ Indoor test_ Signaling tracing_ Call data tracing at RNC side_ Configuration dataThe configuration data and the call data tracing help to locate problems.Data collection is a precondition for problem analysis.

1.2.3 Problem AnalysisYou can locate problems by analyzing collected data. After analyzing coverage problems, pilotpollution problems, and handover problems, provide corresponding adjustment solutions. After

adjustment, test the adjustment result. If the test result cannot meet KPI requirements, reanalyzeproblems and readjust parameters until all KPI requirements are met.Due to weak coverage, pilot pollution, and missing neighbor cells, the following problems are related tolocation:_ Downlink interference_ Access problems_ Call drop problemsThe previous problems occur regularly. You can solve them by repeated optimization. If the coverage is good, pilot pollution and missing neighbor cells are not present, the access and calldrop problems need to be solved during parameter optimization stage. You can refer to corresponding

guidebooks. The period for solving uplink interference problems (RTWP is over high but no high trafficmatches it) is long, even as long as the RF optimization ends.Output an updated list of engineering parameters and list of cell parameters after RF optimization. Thelist of engineering parameters reflects adjustment of engineering parameters (such as down tilt andazimuth) during RF optimization stage. The list of cell parameters reflects the adjustment of cellparameters (such as neighbor cell configuration) during RF optimization stage.

2 Test PreparationsTest preparations include the following four aspects:_ Deciding optimization goal_ Dividing clusters_ Deciding DT route_ Preparing tools and data

2.1 Deciding Optimization GoalThe key of RF optimization is to solve problems as below:_ Weak coverage_ Pilot pollution_ High SHO Factor based on DT
