    Section 5: Cleaning of Rifle

Even though the PredatAR 556 is designed for hard use in battlefieldenvironments, and can function adequately for thousands of roundsbetween cleaning, we recommend users field-strip and clean the PredatAR556 every 250 rounds for optimal accuracy and performance.

With the rifle disassembled, thoroughly clean and inspect all components, then lube with CLP. Wipe dry according to your selected lubricantsinstructions.

Cleaning the barrel, using the OTIS 5.56 Cleaning Kit (not supplied).

(follow the instructions that are included with the OTIS Kit)

    1. Assemble the short chamber cleaning rod. The chamber brush on oneend, and the T handle on the other end. Insert the brush into thechamber. Turn the brush in a clockwise direction; loosen the powder

residue and surface scale in the chamber and locking lugs.

    2. Assemble the bore brush on the flexible rod. Insert the rod into anddown the bore. As you pull the rod, turn it as the brush enters thechamber and into the neck.

    3. The neck is critical to the accuracy of the rifle. If dirt is present, thebullet gets trapped, it will effect accuracy. After scrubbing the neck pullthe brush in the direction of the bullet breech to muzzle.

    4. Now run the swab, this will mop out the chamber area and bore.5. Assemble the loop and swab, per OTIS instructions.

    6. Add 3 to 5 drops of solvent to the front end of the knot in the swab.Open the action as if you were inserting a cartridge.

    7. Insert the obstruction remover end of the flexible cleaning rod.

    8. Turn the rod as you enter the locking lugs.

    9. Continue turning the swab as it enters the chamber. This will mop outthe gummy buildup at the shoulder.

    10. Now that you have cleaned the loose residue out of the receiver, lockinglugs, chamber, shoulder, and neck, we will clean the bore.

    11. Turn the swab over and use a new surface for your next cleaning cycle. This reduces throat erosion.

    12. Pull the swab in the direction of the bullet, breech to muzzle.

    13. Add new swab and repeat until swab runs clean through bore.

Section 16: Operation In Adverse Conditions

Operation In Snow-Covered / Freezing Environments:

Always attempt to keep the weapon dry.

Unload and hand function the weapon every 30 minutes to help preventfreezing of functional parts.

Do not lay a warm weapon directly in snow or ice.

When moving a cold rifle into a warm place, condensation (moisture) willform in and on your weapon. If possible, leave your weapon in a protectedbut cold area outside. When the weapon is brought inside a warm place, itshould be disassembled and wiped dry several times as it reaches room

temperature.Keep the insides of magazines and your ammo wiped dry. Moisture willfreeze and cause malfunctions. Do not lube the ammo.

The use of a muzzle cap, protective bag, and an overall rifle cover will helpprotect your rifle. Use them whenever the tactical situation permits.

Operation in Hot, Wet Climate:Use CLP to clean and lube.

Clean and lube rifle more frequently. Inspect hidden surfaces of the bolt andcarrier assembly, upper receiver and chamber/barrel extension (lockinglugs), and the lower receiver and receiver extension assembly (buffer tube)for corrosion. Also pay close attention to the spring-Ioaded detents on therifle.

To help prevent corrosion, remove handprints with a dry wiping rag. Then

    lubricate lightly with CLP.

Unload and check the inside of magazines frequently for corrosion andmoisture. Wipe ammo dry before reloading.

Use magazine bag, muzzle cap, etc. for protection when the tacticalsituation permits.

    Hot, Dry Climate:

Use CLP to clean and lube.

Hot, dry climates are usually areas containing blowing sand and fine dust.Deserts can be hot during daylight hours and freezing during hours ofdarkness. Consequently, this harsh environment will severely tax your rifle

as well as all other types of equipment. Your rifles continued operation willdepend on your detailed cleaning and lubricating procedures.

Dust and sand will get into the rifle and magazines. This will causemalfunctions. Give the inside areas and functional parts of the rifle athorough cleaning everyday and after every firing mission.

Corrosion is less likely to form on metal parts in a dry climate; therefore, lubrication should be applied to the internal working surfaces and functionalparts only. Use normal amounts of CLP for lubrication (always shake CLP

prior to use). Unload and dry ammo and inside of magazines daily. Do notlube magazines.

At all times, however, as a minimum effort to help keep out sand anddust, keep the bolt and ejection port cover closed, a magazine installedin the rifle.
