EIMCO Precoat Filters
The EIMCO Precoat Filter is a
continuous rotary vacuum drum type
clarication or polishing lter available
in high and low submergence
conguration. It is applied or
clarication o dicult ltering, low
solids slurries on a continuous basis.
Precoat ltration is accomplished
through a pre-deposited bed o
diatomaceous earth or similar
material. The slurry solids deposited
on the surace o this bed during
vacuum operation are removed each
revolution exposing a resh surace
which maintains the ltration rate.
Our engineers are available to assist in
determining the easibility o applying
precoat ltration to your process. All
ndings are kept condential.

Operating Principles
EIMCO Precoat Filters operate similar
to other continuous rotary vacuum
drum lters, but instead o drawing
the liquid through a lter cloth, the
fow is through a predeposited bed o
coating material. The bed o precoat
material traps coarse, ne, or
coagulated colloidal solids that
normally cannot be captured by
typical lter medias.
Beore going on stream, the drum is
covered with a material such as
diatomaceous earth or similar material
that will orm a coating over the
entire drum to a thickness o our to
six inches. The tank then may be
drained o the residual precoating
slurry. In most operations, the process
fow is introduced directly, ultimately
displacing the precoating residual.
As vacuum is applied to the system,
the claried liquid passes through the
precoat, and solids are deposited on
the surace o the precoat. This
deposit is removed by a scraper blade
which covers the length o the drum
and eeds inward to shave o a
predetermined thickness o precoat
on each revolution.
The depth o cut can be regulated as
desired by the operator and is
determined by the amount o cake
and precoat that must be removed to
leave a clean precoat surace or the
beginning o the ltration cycle.
The knie can be quickly adjusted
through use o individual high speed
advance and retraction motors. The
scraper advance is independent o the
drum drive.
Precoating time varies with the
thickness applied, typically 1/2-2
hours. Operating cycle time on one
precoating depends entirely on the
speed o the lter and the thickness
o the cut.

Engineering Facts
Worm Gear Drive
The worm gear drive on the lter
assures continuous constant speed
rotation. Worm gears are cast iron or
bronze, and the worm hardened steel.
Trunnions rotate in lubricated bearings
with replaceable liners.
Valve Assembly
Rotary outlet(valveless) design isstandard. Two-solution outlet
Hy-Flow design is also available.
Drum
EIMCO Precoat Filters are
manuactured to extracting standards.
Drums are abricated on the latest
types o production equipment and
machined components are produced
on computer-controlled automatic
equipment. Internal support rings,
which stien the drum, are machinedto enhance the trueness o drum
rotation, making it possible to achieve
more complete use o the precoat
material. This is especially important
and can provide considerable cost
savings on large diameter lters
Agitator
Operating near the bottom o the
tank, the agitator provides complete
agitation throughout the entire tank,
including the discharge side where
pick-up on the lter drum starts.
Rakes on the agitator are positioned
with a 90-degree downward angle.
Assembly o the agitator pivot hub
uses a bearing and steel shat to
provide long wear and to eliminate
rocking action. The agitator is driven
through a shat mounted gear
reducer. Various mounting and drive
arrangements are available to suit the
installation requirements. Drive guards
are installed to provide operator
saety and meet OSHA guidelines
Scraper Mechanism
Precoat scraper advance mechanismensures stability and uniorm,
accurate, stepless removal o spent
precoating material and lter solids.
Apron and support assembly positively
eliminate blade chatter and
unnecessary production loss.

Technical Data
Theoretical fow rates or various
grades o precoat materials are shown
in the chart to the right. Rates are
based on solids-ree liquid passing
through a rm 1-3/4 thick precoat bed
at 50% submergence with a pressure
drop o 20 Hg vacuum.
Precoat grades range rom a ne grade,
having a relative fow number o 100,
to coarser grades.
