High Efficiency Sand Filters

The development of high efficiency sand filtershas revolutionized cooling water filtration.Suspended solids can now be cost effectivelyremoved to 1/2 micron with an automatic back-washing filter. Older technology multimedia filtersonly get down to about 10 microns. Since mostcooling water particles are in the 1/2 to 5 micronsize range, high efficiency filters are much betterat removing these troublesome contaminants.More efficient filtration means greatly improvedresults with a smaller filter.

AmeriWater high efficiency filters use ultrafinesand to provide this much more effective filtra-tion. The crossflow action of the water acrossthe surface of the finer media prevents rapidplugging by pushing contaminants over to thestorage area. Not only do filtration efficienciesimprove dramatically, but the filters require upto 10 times less backwash water.

Cost Effective Filtration

AmeriWater high efficiency filters are much moreefficient at removing the extremely fine particlesthat cooling towers scrub from the air. Thisgreatly improved effectiveness allows thesefilters to be sized 4 to 5 times smaller thanmultimedia filters while providing much cleanerwater. Multimedia filters sidestream 5 to 10% ofthe recirculation rate, while high efficiency fil-ters only need 1 to 3%. Don’t waste money onlarge inefficient filters utilizing old technology.

The Dole Flow Regulator is self-cleaning and designed todeliver a constant volume of water flow output over awide pressure drop range. The controlling mechanism is aflexible orifice that varies its effective area inversely to theapplied pressure. Below the threshold pressure the insertacts as a fixed orifice. Above the threshold point, the insertbegins to distortreducing the orifice area to maintainthe desired output. Flow rates will be maintained to within±15% up to a pressure drop of 125 PSI. The rate variesdue to manufacturing tolerances and water temperatures. The regulators are designed for a maximum systempressure of 200 PSI. Multi-orifice flow inserts are used, where possible, in regulators with rates between 1 GPMand 4 GPM. The insert breaks up the water dischargepattern to minimize the sound made when water passesthrough restriction.

High and Low pressures are separated by a

sensor assembly consisting of a magnet,

piston, Teflon seal and a range spring. The

difference in pressure causes the sensor

assembly to move in proportion to the

change against a range spring.

A rotary magnet, located in a separate body

cavity and isolated from the acting

pressures, is rotated by magnetic coupling

as per the linear movement of the sensor

assembly. A pointer attached to the rotary

magnet indicates differential pressure on

the dial.

Reed switches are located

adjacent to the pressure chamber and are

activated by the magnetic field of the

sensor assembly

Application

IMPORTANT: This device is not designed orintended to be used in or near environments whereexplosive vapors or gases could be present, orenvironments where substances corrosive to thedevice’s internal components could be present.

The M9106 actuators are used to position balancing, control, round, and zone dampers in typical Heating,Ventilating, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) applications. They are also used to position the blades in aVAV box.

The M9106 mounts directly on the duct surface, rounddamper, or small rectangular damper with ananti-rotation bracket and two sheet metal screws(included). Additional linkages or couplers are notrequired.

Refer to the damper or VAV box manufacturer’sinformation to select the proper timing for the actuator.Refer to the appropriate application note for specificwiring diagrams and information.

Operation

IMPORTANT: The M9106-xGx-2 Seriesactuator is intended to control equipment undernormal operating conditions. Where failure ormalfunction of an M9106-xGx-2 actuator could leadto an abnormal operating condition that could causepersonal injury or damage to the equipment or otherproperty, other devices (limit or safety controls), orsystems (alarm or supervisory) intended to warn of,or protect against, failure or malfunction of anM9106-xGx-2 actuator must be incorporated intoand maintained as part of the control system.

A controller provides a control signal to the actuatordepending upon the desired movement of the damperblade. This signal causes the motor to rotate in theproper direction and the damper blade to open orclose.

Note: To avoid excessive wear or drive time on themotor for the AGx models, use a controller and/orsoftware that provides a time-out function to removethe signal at the end of rotation (stall). The GGx andIGx models have an auto shutoff to avoid excessivewear or drive time on the motor.

The actuator rotates at a nominal rate of 1.5° persecond (90° in 60 seconds) at 60 Hz input. Theactuator rotation is field adjustable from 30 to 90°.Determine the actual rotation time for actuators usingless than 90° rotation, and use that value with thecontroller software. For example, 40 seconds is usedfor 60° rotation.

The IGA and IGC models offer adjustable rotationtimes of 1, 1.5, 2, 5.5 and 11 minutes (factory set for1 minute). The 1-, 1.5-, and 2-minute settings are idealfor on/off and floating applications, and replace theM9104-xGx-2 1.5-minute models. The 5.5- and11-minute settings are replacements for the 35 lb·in(4 N·m) EDA-2040 and the ATP-2040 models.
