Because there are no meshinggears typical of traditionalgearboxes, the Candy Positioneris an exceptionally quiet, coolrunning and long lasting rotarymotion control device.

The Positioner employs a splinedrive assembly to achieve phaseadjustments, allowing eitherin-line shaft to be used as theinput. The input and output shaftshave helical splines cut integrallyat the inboard ends, one left-handspline and one right-hand spline.A rotating sleeve with an internal

ApPLICATIONS

OF OPERATION

or female spline at either end,one left-hand and one right-hand,locks the input and output shaftstogether rotating with them at a1:1 ratio.

When the control knob is rotated,a mechanism shifts or slides thesplined sleeve from one end ofthe travel to the other. The splinedsleeve shifting across the malesplines creates a twisting action,changing the angular positionbetween the input and outputshafts. The Positioner providesa 400 degree differential range,with 200 degrees of angularadjustment in either the advanceor retard direction (from thecenter position with both thekeyseats in-line).

TECHNICALCONSTRUCTION:

The Candy Positioner isconstructed from qualitymaterials and has beendesigned to operate in harshenvironments commonly foundin the packaging, printing andconverting industries. Thehousing is aluminum and iscoated with a USDA approvedepoxy finish. The stainlesssteel input and output shaftsincorporate a patented internalbackbone design and aresupported by lImken bearings.This combination providessuperior overhung load capacity.

CONTROL SHAFT:Rotating the control shaft of thePositioner creates a differentialaction between the input andoutput shafts.

By rotating the control shaft inthe same direction as the input,the output will advance ahead ofthe input. Likewise, by rotatingthe control shaft'in 13'directionopposite to the input, the outputwill retard.

Standard units are shipped with aknob mounted on the control shaftfor manual phase adjustments.The Positioner is also availablewith a keyed shaft in place of theknob. Note: If you plan to designa control motor assembly,remember that the Positioneris not infinitely adjustable.

Dial Indicator

DATADIAL INDICATOR:The Positioner has a built-indial which indicates relative shaftlocation within the 400 degreerange. Starting at zero, the centerof the adjustment range, the dialscale reads 0 to 200 degrees inboth the advance and retarddirections. The lexan protecteddial only moves when a rotationis applied to the control shaft.By noting the numerical relativeposition, an operator canquickly and accurately returnto a previously establishedor desired position.

KEY LOCK:The Positioner also has a built-inkey lock which not only preventsunauthorized adjustments, butalso ensures that the Positionerwill not drift out of adjustmentunder severe vibration.

LUBRICA TION:All Positioners are shipped fromthe factory with the appropriatelubricant, Mobil SHC 634 syntheticoil. The units are shipp-ed witha plug in place of the vent toprevent leakage duringtransportation. Prior to installingthe differential, it is necessaryto install the vent, which issupplied with each unit.

ORDERING TECHNICAL DATA1. When ordering a Candy

Positioner, it is important tochoose the appropriate sizebased on required torque andoperating speeds. The "E" Stopor maximum torque conditionmust be considered whensizing the Positioner.

2. The mounting configurationmust be specified:. Standard mount. Wall mount
