As the first newsletter for the year, it's good to look back and see what we as a legion have accomplished, because it was, indeed, a great year! For all members, we dressed up the patio for you to go out and enjoy, started a bike night in hopes of attracting new members, started a monthly dance night and most recently, refin- ished the bar top to name a few. On behalf of the legion, we donated to numerous organi- zations and welcomed new members. At the end of November we voted in a new finance officer Harris Beard, who comes in with a ton of finance experience. This coming year, we are looking at having the first of many car show event to include a "cruise" night each month for those car enthusiasts. I would like to have the cruise night on the same day as the dance in the hopes of expanding activities for all to enjoy. I have spoken in the past about change and how it can be good in order to move forward. Speaking of change, my wife went to work the day after Christmas and received a present from the Army. She received transfer orders, fortunately, to where we are planning to retire...Las Vegas. We were planning on moving there this summer, but the Army sped up that process. She has to be there early April, which means we will be leaving late March. With that said, I will be stepping down as Commander the first week of January, this will give me/us time to start preparing for the move. So this move is bitter/sweet. I have enjoyed and truly ap- preciate the opportunity that I have had here as your commander. Yes, there were some challenges and hurdles to overcome, but in the end it all worked out. It was a collective effort so THANK YOU!! I relied on board members to help ensure I was on right track. I bent a few ears at times (Bev/Mark/Brian/Mike) because as you know, nobody can see or know everything. I want to especially thank Stephen Stewart, I bent his ear more often than he probably wanted (LOL). I always received sound advice from him and very much appreciated that!! I wish everyone a safe, happy and prosperous 2019 and again thank you for ac- cepting my wife and I into your legion! May God bless you all!! Larry W. Magana, Commander, Hardin Post 113 HAPPY NEW YEAR Everyone!! We all put an end to 2018 in our own way, so let s start out the New Year on a positive note of good health and happiness. Let s make 2019 a great year supporting our Veterans, community and our Legion. Volunteering is a great way to act on this support. It doesnt matter if its just a couple hours, baking a dessert or decorating for an event, all volunteer hours make a difference! A big thank you goes out to all our bingo players and Legion family members who supported our Food Drive. Ivy Taylor with the Family Resource & Youth Services Center delivered the food to help the children through the holiday break. Thank-you, Ivy for doing this for us. Breakfast with Santa and Christmas With Our Veterans in the Carl Brashear Veterans Center were a big success. Thanks to all who helped support these two wonderful events. Dinner for our WWII and Korean War Veterans was a great way for our Legion families to honor our heroes and say Thank-you! Thanks to the Legion for hosting this event and thanks to our volunteers to help make it happen. Remember to save your plastic bottle caps in support of the Buddy Bench Program which will provide a bench made from recycled plastic bottle tops to help children make friends. Please collect your bottle tops (water/ soda/ Gatorade; prescription bottle tops; laundry products, etc.). It takes 400-500 pounds of plastic tops for one bench. Once collected and delivered, the recycle center in Evansville, IN will make the bench. Our next general membership meeting is January 10th, with a potluck starting at 6:00. Virginia is bringing bean soup & vegetable beef soup; so breads, salads or desserts are needed. This is a great opportunity to start the new year by coming to the meeting and getting involved in all our endeavors to serve our community. The beginning of a new year is the time to review what you did well that year and what you want to work on going

into the New Year. As an organization, we do the same thing. We have done some great things and helped out char-

ities and the Legion, but we also look at how we can improve to help our mission to help veterans organizations, charities, and supporting the Legion. Just like you might have some New Year's Resolutions, let us know if you have any ideas to improve that mission, come out to a meeting and provide some input for us going forward for this year and

going on. Sean Kennedy, SAL Adjutant

As the year comes to a close, we have a lot to be thankful for with family and friends! I hope everyone had a nice Christmas and the Harley, Honda, Suzuki, Yamaha, Kawasaki, Indian, and CanAm Santa brought you what you wished for!

This past year we supported numerous American Legion Post 113 events and supported other endeavors from other American Legions as well. Everyone contributed to our success and it showed in our annual donations we made to organizations this year. As was stated at the ALR Party, we have contributed over $48,000 dollars, which will go a long way in helping those less fortunate than us. We truly make a difference in the communities that surround us.

As one riding season comes to a close, yes its still riding weather at 50+ degrees, another one is about to begin. We have the frosty Clutch Ride on 1 January 2019, with the destination being Impellizzeri’s Pizza on the E-Town Square. A ride meeting will be held within the second week of January to plan the 1st quarter rides and look at a preliminary long-range calendar for some overnight rides. We will have a great new year riding the back roads and taking in some beautiful scenery. As always there will be the weekly retiree rides once the warmer weather gets here.

As you are biding farewell to the Old Year and ringing in the New Year, remember to do it safely but most importantly have fun wherever you are celebrating. Looking forward to seeing everyone at the Frosty Clutch Ride and having some camaraderie and fun!

Legion Family Devotion Let God Work for You

Ephesians 3:20 - Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all

we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work within us.

Set your mind and keep it set - choose faith over fear! Meditate on that which is positive and what is

good about your situation and life. Use your energy not to worry but to believe. Fear has no part in

your life. Do not dwell on negative, discouraging thoughts. Set your mind on what God says about you,

His love for you has no end. Know His plan for you is for success, victory and abundance.

The entire Legion Family conveys their sincerest condolences to the Stephen Stewart

Family in the loss of their granddaughters mother, Lisa Michelle Rucker and also

Stephen’s mother-n-law, Beatrice Riggs.

Dear Legion families: Thank you to all for making the WWII and Korean War Luncheon successful! It is truly an honor to serve them and see the supportive volunteers enjoying themselves. It takes a lot of behind the scenes effort to make that day happen. The food was great, and the service was impeccable! Planning will immediately begin for the Vietnam Veterans welcome home dinner, on March 28th! A crew will be needed to help raise money for this event and to spread the word. Last year we had approximately 700 attend and likely more this year. Reach out to me to support the effort! Have a great 2019! God Bless America!
