Pet Peeves
1) Cell phone use2) Mentality-
o Retention- research doesn’t support it and it slows the process for special services. Provide support through RTI
o Co-teaching- not an assistant, don’t act like one. Both teachers are there to support ALL students (no mine vs. yours). Both are on time, active, teaching, & supporting student achievement.
o Resource- not dumbing down, slowing down, or changing the expectations.o Teamwork- change your perspective/eliminate tunnel vision/global glasses. You will never change someone’s personality, but you can influence their perspective.
3) Unprofessional behavior/lack of integrity- leaving early, coming late, lack of plans for subs, disregarding others time and needs, using sarcasm w/ students, staff, or parents.
4) LACK OF SUPERVISION5) LACK OF SUPERVISION
Teacher Expectations
• Our ServiceOur profession exists because of students, not the other way around. We are a service
profession, and we owe it to the community to give our best service. This includes 100% effort using current practices backed by research and knowledge. • Our Standards of Employment
We hold ourselves by the same standards and expectations that we hold our students in our classroom. Teachers are expected to be on time, come to school every day, and attend all required meetings. • Our Attitude
Our profession requires us to motivate, to coach, to enlighten, to collaborate, and to support. We make a commitment to all stakeholders that we will:
Seek Continuous Improvement,Establish Trust with Peers and Students,Be Open-Minded,Stand Unified as a School and Family,
Ask for Help and Direction if Needed.
Our Relationships:• Students – We demonstrate a belief that students are good and
worthy of our love and commitment. We treat our students with the same respect and commitment that we expect teachers to give their own children.
• Parents – We treat our parents with respect and minimize the barriers so our parents can be involved in their children’s education.
• Community – We are conscious of our role as ambassadors. We have a sacred task, and we deserve to be proud of it. We show pride in our community. We are loyal to each other and our students in public. Enthusiasm is contagious and can only bring good things to come.
Wildcat Calendar
• Always refer to the Wildcat Calendar on the Extranet for school events. If you would like to add an event to the calendar, please email Lori Karnes; fieldtrip dates, etc. should be emailed to her as well.
• Facility Use will go through Dr. Carnes. Once approved, Lori will place those events on the Wildcat Calendar.
• If you see a discrepancy on the calendar, please notify Dr. Martin via email and copy Lori.
School Safety
• Dr. Carnes is the Crisis Management Coordinator. Please make him aware of any concerns you may have.
• It takes all of us to ensure a safe environment.• Send visitors without a sticker to the front office immediately.• Never prop doors open• If you have a meeting before the school office officially opens, or after
it has officially closed, you should meet the parent at the front door. The front office opens at 7:45 and it closes at 4:30.
• Students should be supervised
Accidents of a Staff Member/Workman’s Compensation
• Employees injured on the job must be seen by a panel of doctors posted on the Workman’s Compensation list located in the office, teacher workrooms, and various other locations. The school administration and principal’s secretary must be notified as soon as possible following the injury. The principal’s secretary will immediately contact the Office of Risk Management. If the injury requires medical attention, the insurance office will notify the doctor that the employee is on the way. An accident report should be given to the secretary who will forward the form to the Office of Risk Management. Employees not following these procedures can possibly be denied coverage under workman’s compensation. Please call 770-273-4556 for any after hour’s injuries.
Injuries to Students • Any student who is injured at school including but not limited to
participating in PE class, athletic events, etc., should not be moved if the injury is to the back, neck, head, or if the student is knocked unconscious. Extreme caution should be used when treating any injury when the extent of the injury is not known. Moving an injured student could cause further injury and leave the teacher libel for a lawsuit. NOTIFY THE NURSE, THE PRINCIPAL, OR ASSITANT PRINCIPAL OF ANY INJURY TO A STUDENT. An incident report must be completed and turned in to the secretary for all injuries occurring at school. The nurse will see that you have these forms.
Dress of Staff • All staff members are expected to dress professionally. This is critical
every day. Although yoga/stretch pants are approved for students with proper coverage of the midriff and backside, it is not professional attire for staff. No tank blouses may be worn without a cover shirt. No jeans, designer jeans, or denim materials are to be worn by any faculty member except on designated jeans and school shirt days or teacher workdays.
Eating in the Classroom
• Staff members are not to eat snacks in their classrooms when
students are present unless it is a scheduled student snack time. • Staff should not chew gum and should not allow students to chew
gum.
Copying • There are copiers for teacher use in the teachers’ work room. Each
teacher has an allotment of paper; it was delivered by administration to your classroom. The front office copier is not to be used by anyone but the office secretaries and administration. Please notify the bookkeeper by email if a copier is not working properly.
• Each teacher will receive an allotment of paper per semester. If more is needed, please email Dr. Martin.
Keys Each teacher should sign out keys to their rooms, closets, and desks. Teachers are responsible for the keys signed out to them and will be charged $25.00 for the replacement of lost keys. No students should be allowed to use keys.
Leaving Campus Early When a staff member requests to leave during planning or during teaching/working times to do personal business, please get approval from the principal or an assistant principal. As a professional, you are asked to use discretion in making a decision to leave campus during the school day. When approval is given, please sign in/out in the principal’s office and on KRONOS.
Lunchroom
• Teachers are expected to walk with their students to the cafeteria.• Teachers will supervise their students during the entire lunch period;
this includes the time that students are in line to receive lunch.• Students will remain seated once they sit down with their meal.• Teachers will ensure that the table and floor beneath is cleaned prior
to dismissal.• Menchies will be sold on Tuesday and Thursday for $3.00

BYLD• ALL staff must follow the guidelines exactly as stated• Last year, a lot of misuse created discipline problems
Sending students to the office• Please ask why a student needs to use the phone and make sure that it is a
legitimate reason before sending them to the office. It should be for emergencies only.
• Ask students why they need to go to the nurse. If it’s for a band aide, keep some handy and don’t send them.
Morning News
• There will be a morning News Team that will be “live” every morning.• Tryouts will take place during the first two weeks of school.• Dr. Martin will do the news over the intercom until the News Team is ready for
their debut.• All teachers are required to have students watch the morning news. The State
Board of Education has mandated that each Georgia school provide a moment of quiet reflection each school day. The Cherokee County School District has a policy that requires that every student be offered the opportunity to say the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag of the United States each day. This is not optional.
• All announcement requests should be emailed directly to Mr. Markley two days in advance of the desired announcement date.
Parent Requests to Observe
• You are allowed a 24-hour notice in order for a parent to observe your classroom. The administration will tell this to the parents who notify us in writing of the request to observe. CCSD Policy states that one observation of 45 minutes in length is allowed each semester.
• Before the parent arrives, prepare a place for the parent and possibly an administrator to sit. This should be a place that will not interfere with instruction.
• If possible, provide materials for the parent to see, textbook, worksheets, etc. They may bring paper and pen to take notes, but you do not have to provide these items.
• Do not discuss the results of the observation with the parent until a phone or personal conference can be arranged. The parent should not take your time from responsibilities or duties.
Professional Conduct of Staff MembersAlthough most staff members regularly show courtesy to each other, the following list should serve as a reminder of courtesies and professional conduct that when practiced will make the relationship between staff members pleasant and strife-free:
• Dismiss students on time. Monitor hallways in-between class changes.• Do not keep students out of another teacher’s class. Exceptions should be rare and should be made
only when you have discussed this matter with the other teacher yourself. This includes connection classes (PE, Art, Music, FCS, Business, Technology, Math Success, Reading Success, Career)
• Turn in paperwork on time. Failure to turn in paperwork promptly inconveniences others and could result in our school’s being late for central office deadlines.
• Teachers who are repeatedly late will receive appropriate consequences as outlined in the TKES instrument, Standard 9. Professionalism.
• Be cautious about the use of instructional time for non-instructional activities. • Be on time for work and meetings. • NEVER send money to the office with a student. • ALWAYS let the office know if you move to a different location with your class than what’s on the master schedule.

Working Hours: For Certified Staff• Staff work hours are from 8:00 until 4:00. During the course of the
school year, teachers will be expected to participate in extra activities. All teachers are required to attend curriculum night, one P.T.S.A. sponsored function, one P.T.S.A. sponsored dance, two basketball games, fine arts program, and Honor’s Night in May. Eighth grade teachers are responsible for the Eighth Grade Formal.
• Pre and Post-Planning will function on flex hours. The options are 7-3, 7:30-3:30, or 8-4:00. If you have a county or MCMS meeting, you must choose a flex time that will encompass the meeting time.
• Personal children are not allowed during work hours. • Sign-in and out daily on the computer by typing, tsci in the web
browser. This will change with KRONOS in January.
Working Hours: For Noncertified Staff Paraprofessionals: • Sign in by or before 8:00• Sign out at or after 3:30• Paraprofessionals work 7.5 hours each day for 182 days. • Office staff works eight hours a day.• The nurse hours are 8:30-3:30 for 182 days.• Secretary hours: Kelli 7:30-3:30, Lori 7:45-3:45, Mary 8:30-4:30, Jamye

Sick Leave/Personal Leave• All staff must text Dr. Martin if they will not be at work due to illness- 404-281-0680. Put your name on the
text.• Staff members will put the sick leave absence request into AESOP.• Staff members can use 3 sick days for personal leave. You must enter personal leave into AESOP 7 days prior to
the requested leave date.• There are no “sub forms” to complete. • Sub Folders should be created and up-to-date at all times. Make sure that the lead teacher for your team
knows where to find your materials. Lead teachers are responsible for ensuring that subs have everything they need.
• Maternity Leave?- Leave plans for the duration. Lori will put it in AESOP; Work with me ahead of time to secure the sub.
• Emergency lesson plans (3 days worth) will be given to your team leader by the end of the 1st week of school – Friday, August 7, 2015.
• I do not use the “farm out” method. Instead- teacher on planning covers (each lead will create a rotation and give it to Lori), an SI para, or a sub from another class. Don’t wait until the last minute to
record your absence in AESOP. Arriving late, or leaving before the school day ends for any reason will require you to sign in/out in Dr. Martin’s office, and record the absence from campus in AESOP. This is true for PD as well.
Hallway Transition Supervision
• Between all period transitions, all teachers should be standing at their classroom doors supervising and/or assisting student movement.
Establish Connection supervision for these points:• Intersection in front of office – 6,7,8• Stairway landings 1100/2100 side and 1300/2300 side
Afterschool Supervision
• Students who remain afterschool for any program, such as ExP, sports, clubs, tutoring, study table, rehearsals for band/chorus must be adequately supervised. Please inform the custodians of your schedule as well as the principal’s secretary. The custodians need this information because of after-school cleaning duties.
• No student should be allowed to stay after school without written permission from the parent/guardian.
• No teacher should leave the school grounds while they have students.• Students should not wait alone outside the building for rides.
Faculty Meetings
• Faculty Meetings will be held during preplanning, 7:30 a.m. during the school year, workdays, and post planning. Occasionally a mandatory afterschool faculty meeting may be called. Make arrangements to attend.
• Faculty Meetings will be held on Tuesdays
Student Dress Code• Language re: face piercings removed• Yoga/stretch/conforming pants added
Hospitality Dues
• All staff members are encouraged to give $10 to be utilized for hospitality. This money will be used for:
Flowers for immediately family/employee hospitalizationsRetirement parties/giftsNew baby giftBirthdays, etc..

want to strive for 100% participation in PTSA membership.• Membership $10- Tuscany Lunch & you’ll receive $5 off spirit wear
Payroll Changes• Last day of the month, every monthCCSD is too large to provide this courtesy. Every year in November, CCSD has to get a loan to make it through November and December. Of course, this involves paying interest. It is no longer cost effective.
