IntroductionAnandabazar Patrika (Bengali: আনন্দবা�জা�রপত্রিকা�) is a Bengali language newspaper published from Kolkata, New Delhi and Mumbai by ABP Pvt. Ltd. (an enterprise of Ananda Publishers).

 Anandabazar is the most circulated Bengali

newspaper in India. Other than Kolkata, it is also printed from various other towns in West Bengal. The paper was founded in 1922 by its inaugural editor Prafulla Chandra Sarkar. Presently, the newspaper is edited by Aveek Sarkar.

History

1922 – First published on 13th march. It comes out as a four page evening daily, later increased to six.1923 – Becomes a morning daily.1930 – Birth of Ananda Press Ltd.1931 – Starts coming out everyday of the week.1954 – Becomes the largest circulated newspaper in the country from one location.1982 – First modular layout started.1983 – First colour printing started.2005 – Circulation reaches 1 Billion mark.

Character1941 – It was the first to inform about

Subhas Chandra Bose dramatic escape.1941 – No advertisements carried on the

front page, the day after Rabindranath Tagore’s demise as a mark of tribute.

1942 – Dailies not printed to protest against regulation imposed on newspaper.

1948 – When Mahatma Gandhi’s assassination rocks the nation, it echoes the sentiment.

1979 – It celebrates 200 years of Printing & Publication.

1992 – It does not carry a single advertisement when Satyajit Ray died in the previous day to pay tribute.

2005 – Circulation Reaches 1 billion mark.

Circulation

With 1,577,000 daily copies, it has the largest circulation for a single-edition, regional language newspaper in India. According to Indian Readership Survey (IRS) 2010, the newspaper is the eighth most widely read newspaper in India with a total readership of 15,318,000.
