Examinations Department:

With more than 50 years of experience in administering exams worldwide, the British Council works in partnership with UK awarding bodies, Cambridge International Examinations and Edexcel International to promote school level UK qualifications in Pakistan. We also administer a wide range of examinations on behalf of UK awarding bodies, universities and other awarding bodies like ACCA, GMC, IWCF, University of London and all the UK awarding bodies. British Council is proud of its reputation for offering a professional examinations service and a great deal of effort goes into the setting up and administering these examinations. We ensure that we maintain the highest level of security and confidentially of examinations materials at all times and provide the best examination conditions to make your child feel comfortable at the venue. Conduct of Examinations: British Council conduct examinations across Pakistan, we are specialist in administering written exams at all levels, practical examinations, oral examinations, IT practical, conducting practical for fashion & fabrics, food and nutrition etc. Child Protection:

General principles for invigilators;

• Has a thorough knowledge of the Code of Conduct and adheres to its requirements. • Has signed their contracts to invigilate in the examinations, which contains their

signed agreement to the Code of Conduct. • Has attended and successfully completed training sessions prior to the start of

examination sessions • Has passed online trainings • Has passed the online invigilator test

Invigilator code of conduct:

• Decent smart casual for male staff with ties – No jeans, no T-shirts, no baseball caps, no starched shalwar kameez

• Decent smart casual for female staff – No high heels and noisy bracelets/bangles • No relative of a candidate may serve as the sole invigilator • No teacher who prepared candidates for the examination in question may serve

as the sole invigilator • Communication must be prompt, courteous and efficient • Should be helpful to candidates but no extra favour under any circumstances • Should not ask for the mobile numbers or contact details of candidates or of other

invigilators or of school personnel • Must wear a British Council badge and a jacket during his duty at the venue • Treat your colleagues with respect and politeness • We are committed to eliminating all forms of discrimination, harassment and

bullying in the workplace • Develop a good understanding and co-ordination with fellow invigilators • Perform duties as per instructions by the venue supervisor. • To inform the supervisor well in advance in case of a leave so that an alternate

could be arranged. • To be vigilant, honest and responsible in performing the duties at the venue.

Key Terms and definitions: Key Time It is set by Cambridge international to maintain question paper security and integrity, the idea is to ensure that candidate do not communicate question paper content beforehand in a specific zone. Desk Labels Holds centre number and candidate number, which helps a candidate to locate his seat immediately on the day of exam. Seating plan The idea is to sketch examination hall/room seating arrangement on a paper to show candidate location, this allow us to deal with malpractice cases after the exam. Candidate attendance register Is provided by the awarding body, this is to mark candidate status on the day of exam and allow us to update our record to deal with queries after the examinations. Report forms We use them to report any unusual activity on the day of exam, such as medical emergencies, late arrivals, malpractice, complaints etc. Candidate questionnaire British Council values its customer feedback, to ensure our customers are satisfied; we take their valuable feedback on this form. Clash between subjects Candidate having clash between two subjects at same time under same centre/candidate number. In such cases, candidate will attempt papers one after another and will not be allowed to leave the examination hall. Access Arrangements For candidates with disabilities – those with physical disabilities, visual impairment, hearing impairment and learning disabilities apply before the session for special arrangements such as: Use of a word processor, Modified papers (e.g. enlarged print, Braille), Extra time, Use of a reader, Use of a writer (scribe/amanuensis). No arrangement can be made until they are approved by CIE

Invigilator Row duties Assigned by venue supervisor to ensure a specific row is look after for distributing question papers, receiving scripts and resolving any issues to candidates. Venue Supervisor Is responsible to maintain security and integrity of exam material and to run the examinations as per regulations. All venue staff must follow his instructions for smooth delivery of examinations. Senior invigilator Are experienced and are aware of British examinations system, they lead on examination documentations, invigilators should also consult them for any issues and information. Dual Key Invigilator Is responsible to work closely with venue supervisor for security and integrity of exam material, is also responsible to ensure exam branding is in place and compliance standards are met. Subject codes and options Are important are to familiarise with, every subject has his identity through a code with options. All venue staff should have a feel of subject code and other details on the day of exam. Statement of Entry SOE is an entry pass for examinations, this holds exam information such as subject code and date of examinations and candidate picture. Exam stationary and stamping Exam stationary includes answer booklet, extra sheets, graph papers etc. All these sheets are stamped on the day of the exam by the invigilation staff. Only MCQ sheets are not stamped. Candidate number: This is a unique candidate identifier assigned to individual candidate. Centre number and centre name: Represent institution and institution name from where candidate is registered.

Exam Venue: Where British Council holds exams, we have different exam venues locally and at outreach, candidate have different exam venue to take their examinations.
