Andrew & Yemi AdelekeSENIOR MINISTERS, RCCG HOUSE OF PRAISE

I will be with you...

Dearly beloved,

We sincerely wish we are bringing you this news under better economicconditions, however this is where we are and we want to still say thank God. Youmay ask, what is there to be thankful for? But hey! You are still alive, and whenthere is life, there is hope. Please be strong and trust the almighty God who willsee us through these turbulent times.

Throughout the Bible, there were seasons like this of economic recession; in thedays of Abraham, Jacob, Joseph and even during the time of the great ProphetElisha, it was reported that people started cooking their children to eat. But Godintervened in all cases. It is especially those that believed Him who were sparedthe pains of economic crunch. My friend, if there has ever been a period inhistory to believe God, it is now!

When Jacob had problems with Laban, he reported to God and God told him, return to where you come from and I will be with you. God told Abraham... I willbe with you. This five words are powerful, because when God says I will be withyou, it means He will make all His resources available to us.

Brethren during this period, pray that God is with you andthen trust Him, and all should be well.

We thank those of you that have contacted us one way orthe other, please keep the comments coming, encourageus, criticise us (constructively) and contribute, we lookforward to hearing from you, please contact us [email protected]. Another year has come and gone, and weprepare to enter into a new one. Glory be to theLord for keeping us this far, but I discoveredlately that for you to move with your vision tothe next Level, you must recover and cut offyour past mistakes. Maybe in the past twelvemonths, you have made some mistakes that youregret, maybe you have not been able to achieveall the goals you have set for yourself. Do notdespair, for there is still hope.

The Bible says in Micah 7:7-8: But as for me, Iwatch in hope for the Lord, I wait for God mySavior; my God will hear me. Do not gloat overme, my enemy! Though I have fallen, I will rise.Though I sit in darkness, the Lord will be mylight. Therefore, quit beating yourself down, thisyear end, pick yourself up and embrace thefuture that the Lord has planned for you, for hesaid in the book of Jeremiah 29:11 For I knowthe thoughts that I think towards you, saith theLord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to giveyou an expected end.

My Brothers and sisters, we all make mistakesevery now and then in our lifetime. Every greatman has a record of a major mistake in their life;even those we consider as great now. BillClinton had the Monica Lewinsky scandal, BillGates dropped out of school, yet these men areamong the most successful human beings onearth today.

Greatness has to do with performance, experi-mentations, trails, risks, however in the attemptto be great, failure do occur – your reaction to sin, weaknesses, mistakes will reveal your greatness.

There are many examples of great men in theBible, who failed at one time or the other intheir lifetime: Abraham lied about his wife once, and then slept with his servant. David sleptwith Bathsheba and ended up causing the deathof her husband, Peter denied Jesus three timesin one night, Isaac also lied about his wife whileprotecting himself and Jacob deceived hisbrother to receive his birthright.

Yet they were all used by God. They recoveredand were restored back into relationship withGod. A key factor in the story of each and everyone of them was that at one point or the other, they all acknowledged God. The Bible says inProverbs 3:6 In all your ways acknowledge him,and he will make your paths straight.

Restoration is what Calvary is all about. Look atHebrews 11:12 And so from this one man, andhe as good as dead, came descendants asnumerous as the stars in the sky and ascountless as the sand on the seashore.

There are so many people with flaws you willfind in the hall of faith, but this did not stop Godfrom using them, no matter what mistake youhave made, God can help you turn it into aweapon of victory.

However, remember; when you make a mistake, don’t announce it to the whole world. Nevergive ammunition to the enemy. You must learnfrom your mistakes and move on.

Note the following:

• Have you removed the edge? • Did you ignore the counsel of

a mentor?• How about the circle of protection

around your life?

God, Your Pastor, Your Parents, your mentor!

Watch your relationships!

Restoration is the rewardfor Confession, Reachingand Obedience.

You will be restored!

CHRISTIAN AID WORKERKILLED FOR HER FAITHIn Afghanistan, a Christian aidworker with the Christian AIDgroup, SERVE was killed by theTaliban. Gunmen reportedly shotand killed on her way to workaround 0800hours on Monday 20thof October 2008. The ladyidentified by SERVE as GayleWilliams was said to have diedalmost immediately after theattack. The Taliban are reported to haveissued a statement claiming respon-sibility for the attack on theinnocent and harmless aid worker. In Published remarks, Talibanspokesman Zabiullah Mujahiddefended the decision to kill her."This woman came to Afghanistanto teach Christianity to the people

of Afghanistan," he said. "Our(leaders) issued a decree to kill thiswoman. This morning our peoplekilled her in Kabul." Gayle Williamsis said to be of South African-Britishnationality.

CHRISTIAN BISHOP DEPORTEDIn Belarus, a Bishop and founder ofone of the country’s biggest churcheshas been deported for “Christianactivities”. Veniamin Brukh is a bishopin the Full Gospel Church and arrivedin the country only to be met in theairport with an order to deport him.A stamp was put on his passport.

50,000 CHRISTIANS HIDING IN INDIAThe death of an Hindu priest in Indiahas led to the mass killings and

destructions of properties targeted atChristians in a part of India calledOrissa. This has led to severalChristians running into hiding asHindu activists go around attackingthe Christians. CBN (ChristianBroadcasting Network) newsmonitored by Praisereel reportedthat in this area of India, Christianswere being asked to renounceChristianity and embrace Hinduismand if they refuse they were in somecases hacked to death.

DID YOU KNOW?Did you know 200 million Christiansall over the world are beingpersecuted for their faith? Did youknow North Korea is the number onepersecution hot spot in the world?Persecution might be a real challengefor Christians today, but it is not anew phenomenon. It dates right tothe time of Jesus. In the gospel ofMatthew, the theme of persecution isin the beatitudes- “Blessed are youwhen people insult you, persecuteyou and falsely say all kinds of evilagainst you because of Me. Rejoiceand be glad, because great is yourreward in heaven, for in the sameway they persecuted the prophetswho were before you” (Matthew5:11-12). Jesus himself too waspersecuted and knew the challengesof spreading the word was inevitable– Matthew 10:16-23.

FINALLY…Let us remember to pray for mission-aries the world over especially inthese hard times. Also let usendeavour to be a blessing tosomeone in the mission field. Wemust obey the Bible and not becomeweary of well doing.

HISTORY CREATEDFor the first time in thehistory of the United Stateof America, a black Presidentwas elected to office. OnTuesday 4th of November,2008 Barack Obama, Dem-ocratic Party’s Presidentialcandidate won a land slideelection over the RepublicanParty’s John McCain tobecome the 44th Presidentof the United States ofAmerica. The son of aKenyan father and a whitemother won the election easily and sparked large scenes ofcelebrations in Africa, Europe, Asia and other parts of theworld apart from the United States where the electionswere held. According to him, this election means, Changehas come to the world!

What does Christmas remindyou of? Shopping? Carols?Santa Claus? Presents?

For some people in today’sworld, Christmas is a period tobecome a new person, for someit’s a season of joy, a season toremember other human beingswho are less privileged but ofwho’s existence we haveunwittingly forgotten since thelast Christmas. Some even go astep further and remember tocare for animals or even plantsand the environment.

There is always an atmospherethat pervades the Christmasseason throughout the world.Even in countries where this dayis not celebrated officially, thereis an acknowledgement that aspecial celebration is ongoing, hence special events areorganised and people act in aspecial way different from howthey normally would have acted.Perhaps the fact that it iscelebrated at the tail end of anold year and the twilight of anew one also contributes to the celebratory atmosphereduring Christmas.

Christmas in the modern worldhas become a huge commercialevent, with various organisa-tions, travel agencies, airlines, grocery stores, toy manufac-turers, fashion designers etcinvesting monumental sums ofmoney in preparing for theseason; special deals are offered, special products are placed onthe shelves and specialpromotions are made for theseason, and the consumers toogo on shopping spree buyingeverything in sight like they

were Noah on the last daysbefore the flood.

The word Christmas originatedfrom a combination of twowords; the Greek word Christosand the Latin word missa. It is aday that has been designatedfor the celebration of the birthof our Lord Jesus Christ. TheLord’s birthday and much ofhistory celebrated His birthdaywith fan fare.

However, much of the worldtoday has forgotten thatChristmas was originally setaside to celebrate the birth ofJesus, who the bible said cameto the world to save the world, the greatest man that ever lived,God in human flesh. Today,Christ has been taken out ofChristmas and what is left is justthe celebration, the fanfare, theholiday. In fact, I readsomewhere that in Canada therewas a proposal that the famousChristmas greeting “MerryChristmas” be changed to HappyHoliday- in order not to offendnon Christians. What a travesty!

In today’s world, Christmas is stillthe most important holiday ofthe year, but not the mostimportant date in the year. Ibelieve the onus is now onChristians the worldover to take abreak from the

wining and dining of Christmasand go out to tell the worldwhat the date signifies, and whoreally is the reason for theseason. Christmas is worthcelebrating because it is thefulfilment of prophesy foretoldseveral years before it happenedas acc-ounted in the bible; Isaiah9:6 “For unto us a son is givenand the government shall beupon his shoulder: and his nameshall be Wonderful, Counsellor,The mighty God, The EverlastingFather, The Prince of Peace”. It isthe birth of God in the midst of humans.

Christmas is therefore more thanSanta Claus - a fictional char-acter who is another element inthe effort of mankind to replacebelief in God with belief in“good”. Christmas is more thanthe buying and sharing of giftsamong friends, relatives andloved ones, Christmas is morethan the chocolates, the turkey, the annual church visit – forsome who never attend churchuntil Christmas and New yeareves; it is more than all these, itis rather a reminder to mankindthat God sent His only begottenson to the world to bear the sinof the world and provide a wayto salvation. John 3:16. It is a celebration of God’s lovefor the world.

It is time the world return Christmas to Christ.

christmas todaya 21st century view

much of the worldtoday has forgottenthat Christmas wasoriginally set aside

to celebrate the birth of Jesus

Christmas is all about Jesus, yetmany of the essential figures of thenativity are still recognizable, wellmaybe, except for Joseph.

THE ANGELS take centre stage toannounce the birth of the Saviour. They appear to Joseph to announcethat the name of the child would be Jesus.

The VIRGIN MARY, whose Divineselection humbles her, offers herbeautiful hymn and thanksgiving inLuke 1:46-48.

The WISE MEN are desperate in theirsearch to find the newborn king andprepared to divest themselves oftreasures to present Him with gifts ofworship. In Matthew 2:2

The SHEPHERDS became earlyevangelists! In Luke 2.

Oddly enough, only Joseph has nospeaking part. He is the silent memberof the cast and often forgotten. Nonotable lines are attributed to him. Nosound bites. No quotes, only silence.

However, while Joseph is the forgottenfigure of Christmas, he is irreplaceablein the story of Jesus’ birth. ThroughJoseph, God protected the unborn lifeof Jesus and preserved human life forthe Savior.

Joseph’s life teaches us 3 lessons; eachimportant in preserving and realizingGod’s purpose and promise in our lives.

A LESSON IN RIGHTEOUS MERCY

Joseph heard the news of Mary’spregnancy, unexpectedly. Heart-brokenand betrayed, he was unsure of how torespond, it was difficult for him. Herexplanation of the pregnancy was unbelievable, even profane, and did nothing to ease Joseph’semotional pain.

If Mary would not have been stonedon the charge of adultery, she could

have been stoned on the charge ofserious blasphemy. However, Josephchooses the path of mercy… V. 19 -Then Joseph her husband, being a justman, and not wanting to make her apublic example, was minded to put heraway secretly.

It is the righteous mercy of Joseph, which preserved the life of Mary andpreserved the unborn Christ. Thismerciful carpenter would raise amerciful Savior.

When people deserve the sentence ofjustice, choose a righteous mercy, which extends patience, grace, encour-agement, prayer, empathy…

A LESSON IN REDEMPTIVE FAITH

The unborn plans of God are alsoprotected by redemptive faith. We seethis in Joseph’s faith, his willingness tobelieve God. In Joseph’s dream, Godreminded him of His God-given

identity. God’s angelic messengeraddressed Joseph with a unique title,"Joseph, Son of David."

Do you understand that in Christ, youhave a special identity as a member ofHis family and that God knows whoyou are? With that recognition, wecome into the confidence of Hisworking through our circumstances toperfect His purpose.

Next, God assured Joseph that he didnot have to be afraid. Fear is theenemy of faith and steals our hope.

Third, God gave Joseph direction. Hewas to take Mary as his wife and be afather to the child, whom he wouldgive the name – Jesus. Be teachableand allow His instruction.

A LESSON IN READY OBEDIENCE

Obedience followed Joseph’s faith. With an informed faith to trust God,Joseph obeyed. He took Mary to be hiswife and suffered the caustic remarks,a result of a child conceived prior to wedlock.

He would also obey by giving this childthe name given by the Angel, the nameJESUS – a name declaring the God, who saves.

Herod can’t destroy you in a place ofobedience. God’s promises arepreserved in places of obedience.Mercy. Faith. Obedience. Each isimportant to preserve and realizeGod’s purpose and promise in our lives.

Are you waiting on a particularpromise? Are you looking for ananswer to a prayer? Continue in mercy, faith, and obedience and God will soonanswer you.

Merry Christmas!

GOD’S PROMISES AREPRESERVED IN PLACES

OF OBEDIENCE

As singles in the house of God it is my belief thatthere is no better time to serve God with all yourhearts and might than when we are single. Asapostle Paul rightly mentioned in the book of 1stCorinthian 7 vs. 32-34.

Let me quickly add, that this is not to say there isanything wrong with getting married or seeking toget married. The word of God further tells us thatmarriage is honourable the bed undefiled (Heb 13vs. 4a) and also makes us to realize than one shallchase a thousand and two will chase ten thousand.

However I believe that will only happen if the twoare properly matched. In this age Where Christianscan hardly distinguish the voice of God from thevarious noises that assault their ears soul, wherethere is no longer a clear separation between thesoul and spirit by the sharp two-edged sword of theword of God even amongst professing Christians;the need for young, vibrant singles to lay hold onGod much more than we have done before cannotbe over-emphasized.

I always say that when a man has direction in life, most importantly from the Holy Spirit, he can nevermiss it in all he does. Another New Year is comingand I certainly don’t want to go round in circles. Beexpectant and look out for the beginning of theseries in the next edition of Praisereel:

The series is broken into four main parts namely:

How to hear from God: Your faith; effectiveness;speed; prosperity in life and destiny is hinged onthis.

How to Study God’s Word: Developing the musclesof faith and sharpening the ability to hear God

How to pray effectively and different kind ofprayers: Communication with God is a thing of joyor a bland routine (is prayer trying to convince anunwilling God to do what we are not sure he wants

to do or can do? is it a heart to heart conversationbetween a son and father to accomplish the father’swill?

Walking with The Holy Spirit: The Comforter is thepresence of God on the earth. The word of Godmakes us to realize that He will teach us all truthand reveal the father to us.

Why do we need to Discover God?

The question may arise in your heart why do youneed to discover God for yourself? why do you haveto put all the effort and ensure that you are not justknown of God as one of his many children; but thatyou know God. There is a world of differencebetween those two positions. God has manychildren of diverse characters and He knows themall. But only a very few can claim they really knowGod and his ways. Many know his acts but a few areacquainted with his ways. It is my prayer that we notjust know the act of God but rather be fullyacquainted with the ways of the Great and MightyKing! Amen.

The Ark of Safety

As God prepared an ark for the righteous Noah inthe time of great trouble upon the earth so has Heprepared even a Ark at this Time: That Ark of yourSafety is in this thick dark age Discovering Godthrough the divine Spirit. The Spirit of God & theWord is the ark of safety. I believe God will revealmore of his mind to you as you join us with thisseries.

Let us all be prayerful and expectant of what Godwill do with this series; It is my belief that there shallbe a great deposit of God in us and we would not bethe same again after this. Amen!

Bet you will agree the full dose is sure worthwaiting for. God bless you and I wish you all aMerry Christmas and a Happy New Year in Advance.

It was a cool Sunday afternoon, the choir had justdone a great number and the congregation wascharged up ready for the word when suddenly thePastor stepped up to the podium and announced thepresence of a guest minister who will be ministeringin a song or two, the man thatstepped up to the altar looked quietexcept for his Afro hair style and Iwasn’t sure what to expect until hisvoice cracked through themicrophone and for the next 7minutes or so literally rocked thehouse.

Samsong was born in Nigeria, theseventh in a family of nine and the fifth boy. “Istarted singing at the age of 8” he told Praisereel, atthe Four Square Gospel Church in the ancient BeninCity where he was born. “I grew up in church” hecontinued, “but I wasn’t really born again, andbetween that time and when I got born again, I sangeverywhere, in clubs, at shows and in the church.” Heand three other guys started a group called “PraiseCreations” in 1990 and were under the managementof Ben Olaye before one of Nigeria’s top music label,Ivory Music signed them up on a 2 album deal.

Praise Creations, lasted for about 10 years .Samsong’s solo career then took off . A graduate ofaccountancy from the Ambrose Alli University,Ekpoma In Nigeria, he was initially employed in abank in the year 2000 after completing a mandatoryNational Youth Service with the Central Bank ofNigeria. To the complete surprise of his friends and family, Samsong quit the bank jobafter just one year to follow his dream ofbecoming a gospel musician.

He said “No one could really believe Iwould leave a very good career inbanking just to sing” he exclaimed.“My family thought I had gonebunkers, but I just did not feelright working in that bank”.Eight years and three albumslater, they respect and lovehim for his decision.

The road to the top was notthat smooth though for theGospel R & B crooner, he enteredmany singing competitions andtalent shows, the most remarkable

of which was Star Quest and the Golden Tones showback then in Nigeria. He won the regional finals ofboth competitions and has not looked back sincethen. These shows were on television; hence hegained a lot of popularity and became well known.

Samsong released his first album in2002 called “Count Your Blessing”,in 2004, “Still Counting Followed”and the current album, “The worldof my dreams” was released in2007. He has since performed onthe same stage with several artists;gospel and secular includingDonnie McLaughlin, Donald Jones,

112, Onyeka Onwenu, 2face and Dbanj.

He won the Amen award in 2004, the best malevocalist of the year in 2005, Best Video award in 2006,The hall of fame award in 2007 among other Nationalawards. When asked about his relationship with God,He said “God has been good to me as a father, afather is someone you can run to when you feel youdon’t know much” he continued, “God has directedme, as a friend and is always there to lead me to mypurpose, if not for him I will not have been here now”he concluded.

The future cannot come sooner for Samsong, he isworking on a new album to come out next year andcompleting videos for the album already out. Hehas a vision to put together an academy for

young people “God has called me tobring up young people who I can

train to believe in themselvesand do something betterwith their livesinstead of

turningto drugs or

other vices. When Iwas young, I dreamed

that I could sing and Igrew up singing. I wantto help this young peopledevelop their dreams”.SAMSONG WILL BE PERFORMING AT THE HOUSE OF PRAISE CHARLTON AND PECKHAM DURING THECROSSOVER SERVICES ON THE 31ST OF DECEMBER 2008

The prostate is an organ that encapsulates the urethrai.e. tube carrying urine from bladder. Therefore anincrease in morphology or size of the prostate significantly narrows the urethra thereby makingurination difficult.

With the exception of skin cancer, prostate cancer isthe most common cancer in the U.K male population(cancer research UK). 35,000 men are diagnosed withprostate cancer per year and 73 out of every 1,000 mendevelop prostate cancer in their life time.

An increase in prostate does not necessarily mean acancer, the tumour could either be malignant orbenign. A malignant growth of the prostate poses alife threatening prognosis, however a benign growthsuch as Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH) can beeasily treated.

What are the Symptoms? The most striking symptom is difficulty in urinating. Itis often associated with a full bladder even though thepatient has just urinated. Due to the location of theprostate and close proximity to the urethra, it is alsoassociated with pain whilst urinating and a frequentneed to urinate especially at night. Other reportedsymptoms include a weak and irregular flow of urine.

Causes of Prostate Cancer? To date the precise cause is unknown, however someassociated factors that increase the likelihood ofprostate cancer have been observed. Prevalence is veryhigh in Black ethnic groups thereby implicating a racialinheritance. In addition, genetic predisposition amongrelatives increases likelihood of disease. Ageing toohas been suggested as a possible cause as prevalence iscommon amongst men over 50 years. Diabetes, highfat and diary diet has been associated with disease inclinical studies. Conversely, diet such as tomatoes richin lycopene, an antioxidant and selenium have beensuggested to confer a protective effect.

Tests and Diagnosis? If a case of prostatic cancer is suspected the initial testis a digital rectal examination to detect the size andsurface appearance of the prostate. Increase in sizemay imply a secondary condition such as BPH ratherthan cancer. Blood test to check for prostatic proteinsin blood too can be used to diagnose disease. Biopsysamples of the prostate too can be taken and sent tothe lab for analysis.

Available TreatmentFirst treatment initiative is active surveillance tomonitor the growth and presence of prostatic proteinsin blood. Surgery to remove the prostate completelycan be carried out if the tumour has not metastasized.Radiotherapy to destroy the cells is an option if thetumour is cancerous. Hormone therapy to preventmale sex hormones involved in prostate growth can begiven, however this does not kill cancerous cells.

In summary, prostate cancer is a disease that can bediagnosed without much difficulty, althoughtreatment approach is often more difficult and takesinto consideration several factors based on specialistconsultation. Any of the symptoms addressed must be taken seriously to avoid delay in treatment and metastasis.

The House Of Praise Teenage Church’s

Youth Week 2008 tagged JAM which

held at the House Of Praise Charlton

was phenomenal, the following is

a report on the event by the

Teenage church co-ordinator; George

Bossman-Okai:

JAM (Jesus and Me) 2008 was Awesome

in the presence of the Lord the teens and

youth workers of House of Praise say a

very big thank you to Pastor Yemi

Adeleke for giving us the opportunity

every year to come together as young

people in one accord to worship and use

our talents to praise God.

The week kicked off

with prayers, bible

quiz between teens

and the adult church

which was won by

the teenagers. The

car-eers advice and

summer party was

glorious and col-

ourful as young

people did invite

their friends and

were supported by

House of Praise (Lighthouse) Peckham.

I was blessed by Pastor Yemi’s Sermon

“Parenting in the 21st Century” where she

challenged parents and gave examples

of her own experiences with her teen-

age children.

The Grand Finale was exciting with over

400 diverse young people and children

from different ethnic and racial

background coming from all over the

United Kingdom to worship with us.

Julian an 18 year old girl from Bellingham

said “thank you very much for inviting me

and my 12 friends, in fact, God moved in

my life in a way that l never expected and

my friends were really touched by the

word that come from Samuel Ademosu a

20 year old Brunell

University student and a

born again Christian”.

Samuel Ademosu’s ser-

mon was very powerful

and straight to the point.

He used himself as an

example, he has been on

the streets of Lewisham

but now God has seen

him through.

Shola Ajose (African Boy)

also said “l was blessed

and my life will never be the same again”.

A 16 year old student from New Wine

Church also said “As I am talking to you

now, we also have a youth day in

our church, but I never miss this HOP

teen’s day”.

Brethren, it was an emotional evening,

we sang, danced, clapped and shed tears

together especially when Pastor Yemi

Adeleke took over and started praying for

young people who will like to use their

talents to serve the Lord. Over 60 young

people gave their lives to

Christ and over 250 teens

and some adults re-

dedicated their talents to

serve the Lord. In all JAM

2008 was a success.

The youth workers in

HOP will also like to

thank all parents and

guardians for en-

trusting us with your

teenagers. As a youth

leader, I pray that our

efforts will not be in vain in Jesus name.

Please don’t forget to log on our website

www.houseofpraise.co.uk for what is

happening at the teenage church. Also, if

you have any young person who is

struggling spiritually, academically and

socially come and talk to our team as we

treat every case confidential.

God Bless You.

A young gentleman recently apologised forrepeatedly questioning me on my career, andexplained his reasoning, quoting an Africanadage – translated – ‘the horse at the backfocuses on the horse in front when running itsown race’.

Despite having agreed with this adage so manytimes in my life, I retorted ‘that’s not true!’against my character norm which is to give a wellthought-out response to most debates. Myknee-jerk response left me in the position ofhaving to quickly think of reasons why thatadage does not stand true, and I eventually cameup with the following.

When defining your career, you can’t choose tofocus on your mentor ‘horse’, parents ‘horse’, oryour role model ‘horse’ all ahead of you. Thesemay all be ‘horses’ in the front that have run orare running a great race, with great success, accolades, riches, medals and recognition beingtheir just reward, but who says that if you keepyour focus on their race you’re going to get thesame result? Indeed, who says you’re both cutout for the same career or race?

I’ve watched a few programmes i.e. My Wife andKids, and ‘Fresh Prince of Bel Air’ where Michael‘the man of the house!’, and Geoffrey ‘thebutler’ were in separate races and they careeredoff the race track, outside the stadium and into acab which dropped them off close enough to the

finishing line for them to take the podium; ifyou’re watching the ‘horse’ in front, whathappens when they veer off course or take short-cuts to try to reach the finishing line – do youfollow the horse or keep on track? Who saystheir finishing line is yours?

The fact is that there are many tactics to runningyour career race, and the ‘horse’ in front – yourrole-model or mentor - may just be a ‘pacesetter’,in the race to set you on your way, set the initialpace for you and then drop out – if you’re relyingon a ‘pacesetter horse’ to get you to the pointwhere you fulfil your career goals, then again, what happens when they drop out of the race?

Despite the many career options out in themarket, many professionals who would makegreat bankers attempt to follow the ‘horse infront’ into IT; many a great lawyer follows the‘horse in front’ into Project Management, with‘Testing’ being the new career choice for manyhorses who might be best employed as doctors, teachers or lawyers. Careers such as nursing arebeing ignored by many ‘stud’ horses as thesehave traditionally not been seen as ‘jobs for theboyz’. Conversely, many traditional ‘jobs for theboyz’ are being taken up by women – did anyoneread the news reports of the lady in the City, whoquit to become a £60 per hour plumber?

The main focus, throughout your career raceshould be where ’you’ aim to be at the end ofyour career i.e. your finishing line. Yes, keep aneye on the pacesetter horse that will drop outeventually, and the mentor horse in front –spurring you on to run faster and harder to reachyour goals, but be prepared to excel andovertake the horse in front during the course ofyour race to enable you to achieve the ultimatedesired prize, i.e. a job in your own chosen careerfield, where you’ve run your own race, andwhere the finishing line has been determinedsolely by those God-given skills He invested inyou, and not by the horse in front.

Personal Profile I come from Burundi, the greenest

and possibly tiniest country in the world! I am the first

born in a family of 6 and although my parents were

very strict, they were my only reliable friends during

my upbringing. Trust me, they were the BEST! I

completed my primary and secondary education in

Bujumbura, capital of Burundi. Currently, I am

studying for a professional qualification to become a

Qualified Accountant. I also work as a Management

Accountant with a firm in Oxford Circus. I came to the

UK to explore and see what clean streets look like

(lol). But on a serious note, I came to try and ensure a

better future for me, my brothers and my sisters. The

UK offers great opportunities and exposure to young,

focused and motivated people. When I left Burundi,

none of that was foreseeable.

How did you join HOP and why did you decide

to stay?

There was a time in my life, when I was going through

a rough patch, I had no hope whatsoever. On a

particular Sunday, while attending a service at House

Of Praise Charlton where I had started attending,

Pastor Yemi Adeleke (Mama)’s message that day was

for me. She preached about my personal circum-

stances, it’s like she was reading a book. From that

moment I knew there was no more turning back. Then

I seriously committed to

becoming a HOP member.

God has been good, very

good to me. Most

importantly I am a servant

to all in God’s house. It is

such a privilege

Which of the prog-

rammes or conferences

at HOP have impacted

you the most?

I would say Wednesday’s

Bible study has a major impact on my life, especially

when Mama moderates it. Also, this year’s Total

Woman was a true blessing for me. The week

following the Total Woman convention, when Pastor

Funke Adejumo preached, a special grace was

released into my life and

her prophecies were realized within the time

frame she gave. I will never forget that Wednesday,

9th July 2008.

Another program that really touched me was the

drama ministration titled “No Entry”. My forecast has

changed ever since

Which Programmes have impacted your life most?My life has been impacted upon by most programmesorganised by HOP, like the numerous Nights of Joy,but above all I think the Festival of Life (F.O.L.) is anawesome event and a pointer that our God is alive! For me, every blessed day I come to worship God atHOP is memorable and I pray that God will continue tobless and anoint Pastor and Pastor (Mrs.) Adeleke andother ministers. PRIZE DRAW TERMS AND CONDITIONS – ENTRY TO THE PRIZE DRAW IS OPEN TO ANYONE AGE 18 AND BELOW. ALL ENTRIES MUST BE RECEIVED NO LATER THAN THE JAN 31ST 2009

Having been on the receiving end of presentswhich were too small, too short, too big, or just‘not my style’, I’ve realised the best person toget you a Christmas present is YOU! You knowyour shoe size can’t be found in London – oreven America as I recently found out; you knowyour shirt size, favourite perfume or aftershaveand, more importantly, you know your specific‘NEEDS’ and desires better than anyone else.

With the ongoing credit crunch, a question onmy mind recently has been what’s the bestChristmas gift for a season like this i.e. a ‘CAR’,‘CAReer coaching’ or even ‘CARpentry lessons’?

The majority of people I know would choose acar. My car has groaned up quite a few hills, andcost me a few anxious moments when changinggears, yet a car would be my last choice as a giftas it’s a gift with no long-term benefits. Theminute the car leaves the garage, depreciationkicks in and the value heads in one directiononly, i.e. downwards.

So, let’s take the gift of a ‘career’. If asked topersonally invest in the gift of a session with acareer counsellor, how many of us wouldconsider this to be a gift rather than a waste ofan hour or two spent talking to a counsellor that could have been better spent earning a meagre hourly wage in a job with no long-term prospects?

On the other hand one could argue that havinga career counselling session for an hour or twomight enable you to determine what careerchoices you need to make for the New Year andthe medium-term but, in this new era wherethere’s no ‘job for life’ anymore, the benefitsmight not last a lifetime.

Growing up, the resounding words of myparents were ‘you shall be a doctor!’ – despiteme hating and failing every single sciencesubject; just thank God I’m not a doctor orshould I say ‘YOUR’ doctor today!

The four chapters of my career so far have read– ‘what my parents wanted me to be’, ‘what Iwanted to be’, ‘what I was forced to study for as

I didn’t get the right grades for what I wanted tobe’, ‘and what I eventually ended up being’ i.e.four totally different careers! There’s anotherchapter on the way though, i.e. ‘what I will do with my hands to make wealth during thiscredit crunch?’

So, having weighed up the arguments providedand considered the question above, instead of acar or career counselling, might carpentrylessons [or re-skilling] be just the gift we all needthis Christmas?

Yep, I can almost feel the sense of outrage as youponder ‘who’s she calling a carpenter?’ Here’s asweetener – ‘there was once a famous carpenter, born on Christmas day...’

The fact remains that people with ‘skills of thehand’ earn a decent income e.g. good plumbers, carpenters, electricians and mechanics are neverout of business. Those with the God-given ‘gift’to use their hands to provide critical services arethe ones who never experience a downturn intimes of economic drought.

As you choose your personal Christmas gift thisyear what’s it going to be, i.e. a CAR, CAR-eercounselling, CARpentry lessons or the one optionI haven’t aforementioned – a business ‘CAR-d’and invoice from a skilled plumber or carpenterwho has charged you a hefty sum to do a job inyour home you could have invested in a fewlessons to learn to do yourself?

Which ‘CAR...’ for christmas and the new year?

Expansion means for one to leavehis current state and move toanother level. In Chronicles 4:9-10. God granted the request ofJabez and changed his storybasically because he asked with astrong desire and believed Godcould change his story and hisname which meant sorrow can bechanged to something else. Thebible recorded that God enlargedhis coast. Becoming successful inlife and destiny is not aboutphysical strength.

Saul and Jonathan were recordedto be swifter than eagles andstronger than a Lion. An eagle isthe swiftest of birds and a Lion isthe strongest of animals, anyonewho is stronger than a Lion andswifter than an eagle is superhuman. However both Saul andJonathan died in battle. The onethat survived them is the one theLord’s mercy has preserved. Whatis it then? The Bible said thebattle is not to the strong norrace to the swift, but he that lordshoweth mercy. God showedDavid mercy and despite the factthat Saul and Jonathan were strong and swift, Davidsurvived them.

You can be more honourablethan your brethren; you can beabove the rest. In Gen 1:26; Godcommanded man to havedominion over all creation. This isa commandment; hence by nothaving dominion, we are actuallydisobeying God and living belowthe standard he has set for us. The bible said God can doexceedingly above all we can

think or desire, many of us havebeen desiring and desiring, butwe are not thinking, hence weare not entering into theinheritance God has planned forus. God wants us to expand ourimaginations: Isaiah 54:1-2. TheLord wants us to enlarge theplace of our habitations and seewith His eyes and not our own. Itis until we begin to see as Godsees that we can expand.

There are three major Agents ofExpansion.

1. GOD2. YOURSELF3. OTHER PEOPLE

GOD: Heb 3:4 - for every House isbuilt by some man, but He thatbuilt all things is God. If God doesnot allow it, it cannot be done.Hence you must get right withGod; any man who is successfultoday is so because God hasallowed Him to be so for onereason or the other. Can God trustyou with His treasures? God is theprincipal factor.

YOU: Every man must know hispurpose for living. Without this, you will be lost. You must thenhave a strong desire to make it.Mark 11:24 -Therefore I say, whatsoever ye desire, when yepray, believe that ye receive themand ye shall have them. Therefore:

A. Desire it

B. Find it in the word, look for a place in the bible where God has promised you what you want and use it to pray; Psalm 115:4, Job 8:7, Psalm 71:71, Daniel 9:2. Everything God has promised you is in the book.

C. Pray authoritatively: Matthew 18:18, Matthew 16:18. Pray with passion, pray with focus and pray and refuse to take no for an answer.

D. Deal with all hindrances to your expansion, sin, laziness, too much sleep. Expand your capacity.

E. Listen To the word of God only. Don’t listen to people who say it cannot be done. Do not give up your dream for anybody.

F. Activate the hand of God through sacrifice. Fire does not fall on an empty altar. Solomon sacrificed and provoked God to asking him what he wants.

Make a move of faith TODAY! Dosomething about it. 2Kings 7:4-7

OTHER PEOPLE: You need destinyconnectors in your life. Jonathanhelped David become King. Lukewas following Paul around andhelped him record most of hisexploits. Your destiny connectorshelp you fulfil your destiny. Theydon’t compete with you. They areexcited at your growth. Findyours today prayerfully.

They travel with mesometimes. It has not been easy, butGod has been faithful”.

VISION FOR 2009“The lord has spoken to us about2009, it is going to be our year offruitfulness and reproduction. It isgoing to be a year when the body ofChrist will give birth to manynations. For the RCCG House ofPraise, the lord has said thatbarrenness will be a stranger to us,physically and spiritually”.

THE FOCUS FOR 2009Pastor Andrew stated that thechurch’s focus is on expanding thekingdom of God and taking backthe lost through active Evangelism.

AREAS OF IMPROVEMENT?“We need to look at the areas ofcommitment to God” He stated“People are getting distracted byrumours of war”. He said the churchwill teach more on commitment andfaithfulness to marital vows, familyvalues and real friendship. He saidthere are no longer real friendshipsthe type of which David testified ofJonathan in 2 Samuel.

“People need helpers of destiny. Weworship Jesus today because He washighly committed to us to the pointthat He took our place on the cross”He concluded. He also added thatthe church will also focus onprosperity, and teaching the peopleto own their own business.

ON RCCG UKPastor Andrew began by saying Godhas been helping the church. Hepraised the unity and the wisdomand leadership of the chairman;Pastor Agu Irukwu, under whoseleadership, the work has expandedtremendously. He further statedthat the best is yet to come. “In2009, we plan to go into Wales,Scotland, everywhere. No place willbe able to contain us”.

“Pastor Adeboye, the GeneralOverseer has prophesied, and as agenuine prophet of God we believethat very soon, we shall get our owncamp ground because I know hisword shall come to pass”.

HE HAS DONE IT AGAIN On Thursday the 5th of June, 2008, my friend wasrushed to the hospital and was in intensive care for 2weeks. I called on the God of Pastor Yemi Adeleke tobring the dead back to life as there were complica-tions, collapsed lungs, kidney failure, etc. On Fridayagainst all odds and doctor’s report from 3 goodhospitals in London, my friend walked out of thehospital with her two legs, no dialysis’, no oxygen orventilator, she came out the way God created her witha whole sound mind. Brethren, I admonish you in anyhopeless situation to call on God of Olayemi Adeleke,He will do it for you.

MR & MRS K. OWOEYE

UNQUESTIONABLE IS OUR GODI thank God for a short, quick and easy delivery. Iwent to the hospital for a check up, and when I gotthere, I was told I was going to be monitored. Whilethe baby was being monitored, they noticed hisheart beat was irregular with contractions, over aperiod of time the situation was still the same andthe gynaecologist came and told me that I needed tohave an emergency C-Section in 5 minutes. On thetheatre table, the anaesthetist could not find a goodplace in my spine to inject the Epidural. Just minuteslater, I had the urge to push and the baby came outto their amazement. Glory be to God. I gave birth toa healthy son. Praise God.
