October 31, 2014 Dear Parents and/or Guardians, Earlier this month many families spent time with our teachers setting student-learning goals for the 2014 – 2015 school year. In February, we will take the time to look at our students’ progression toward those goals. Goal setting and achievement data are crucial to long-term student growth. The same can be said about schools. Developing school goals and analyzing achievement data are important steps to take each and every year, and vital in the long-term success of a school. At Prairieview, we spend an entire year looking at and developing school improvement goals. We use national and local assessments as well as best practices to develop our goals. We then design our professional development around those goals to best meet the needs of all students. Our most recent school improvement plan was shared at the last school board meeting and can be found for everyone to see in this month’s newsletter. Our school’s achievement data is shared many different ways throughout the year. During our winter conference many of our local assessments will be shared with you to highlight student growth. As for the national assessments, the Illinois Interactive Report Card is a wonderful tool for all parents to see how local schools are performing from year to year. You can access our school’s report card at http://illinoisreportcard.com/ . Type in the name of our school and much of our data will be available to you. A new element of the interactive report card is the 5Essentials Survey. This survey is given out every other year to community members and staff, with the next one scheduled to go out in the spring. All parents will receive an invitation to share their thoughts and insights about our school. If enough people participate in the survey the results will be posted on next year’s school report card. Finally, the interactive report card will show you the “fast facts” about our school. These facts are unique to every school and highlight the dynamics that comprise our school and student-population. As a result of some of these dynamics, our school has recently become a Title 1 targeted school. This qualifies us to receive a portion of our district’s Title 1 funds to better support students in both reading and math. Please see the attached letter by our Title 1 coordinator, Barbara Zarras, for more details. I encourage everyone to take some time to review our school improvement plan and our interactive report card data. If you have any questions or suggestions for improvement, please do not hesitate to contact me at 847.543.4230 or [email protected] . Sincerely, Vince Murray Prairieview School 103 E. Dear Parents and/or Guardians, Earlier this month many families spent time with our teachers setting student-learning goals for the 2014 – 2015 school year.

You can access our school’s report card at http://illinoisreportcard.com/.

If you have any questions or suggestions for improvement, please do not hesitate to contact me at 847.543.4230 or [email protected].

Sinceramente,

Vince Murray

The kids enjoyed two huge bounce houses and lots of fun games and very cool prizes thanks to Fun Events, Inc. Thanks to Domino's pizza for baking up some nice hot pizzas for us.

A big thanks to our very own PV parent, James Zahn, who joined the Fall Fest Committee and obtained many of our wonderful raffle items, including the STEP 2 Studio Art Desk! I know we have some very happy winners out there! We have a few other people to thank who helped us out! Thank you to Oliver Davidson who provided balloon creations throughout the day and Cathryn Leiter who did some cool face painting! You helped make this a memorable day for all!

Prairieview PALS Presents

As the winter holidays approach we begin to think about others and how we can help them have a pleasant holiday. It is not always possible because of the loss of a job, an illness or other reasons, for people to enjoy and afford to buy presents for their families. At Prairieview School there will be a PAL Tree for Prairieview Families that will not be able to provide gifts for their families this year. There will be a heart for each child in the family hanging on the tree in the front office starting November 14th . A number will identify each heart. Please come in and take

some hearts or send a note with your child indicating how many hearts they should bring home,

buy a present, wrap it and return it with the heart on it (no other tags) by December 5th .

*If you have any questions please call Rosa Tellez at 847/ 543-6202.

______________________________________________________________________________________ If your child is a student at Prairieview School and would benefit from receiving gifts this year, please fill out the form below and return it by November 7th .
