Gujarat Agricultural University came in to existence on 01/06/1972 with Sardarkrushinagar as head quarter and campuses at Anand, Navsari and Junagadh.

The Gujarat University Act 2004 created four universities with jurisdiction of Sardarkrushinagar Dantiwada Agricultural University, to six districts viz., Gandhinagar, Mehsana, Patan, Sabarkantha, Banaskantha and Kutchh of North Gujarat

Sui-Generis CAJANUS GARDEN

Cajanus garden entailing 102 wild types of Cajanus species viz., Scarabaeoides, Seraceous, platicarpus Rhyncosia cajanifolia was developed at Main Pulses Research Station.

The African species have also been maintained and are being exploited in varietal improvement programme of pigeonpea.

New Initiatives Taken

1. Development and Delivery System as well as IPR guidelines for commercialization of SDAU Technologies/ product processes.

2. A project on AgRIS for Banaskantha district in collaboration with National Information Center (NIC), Government of India, with financial support from the Ministry of Agriculture, Government of India, New Delhi.

3. Implementation of “Mega Seed Project” including infrastructure development for seeding and planting materials at a cost of Rs 4.81 crores.

4. Raising fodder crops on 15% farm land for its own Dairy Farm and another 25% of area to be brought under arid horticulture, bio-diesel plantation and agro forestry.
