TYPICAL FIRE RATINGS OFFSHORE
Structural Steel Certified Hp/A programs to tailor the amount of fireproofing to the size of steel and limiting steel temperature required. Bulkheads & Underdecks
“A Type” Fire environment is cellulosic. Structure requires no passage of smoke, gas or flame for 1 hour. In addition the number shown after the “A” indicates the number of minutes the backside temperature can not rise above 139C plus ambient or a max of 180C. “H Type” Fire environment is hydrocarbon. Structure requires no passage of smoke, gas or flame for 2 hours. In addition the number shown after the “H” indicates the number of minutes the backside temperature can not rise above 139C plus ambient or a max of 180C. For Stress Skin type bulkheads structural limit should be 400C after 2 hours.

TYPICAL FIRE RATINGS ON-SHORE
UL-1709 - Underwriters Laboratory column test designed to simulate a hydrocarbon type fire. Also has a mandatory weathering program to simulate exposure to an industrial environment. UL-263 - Underwriters Laboratory fire test for materials used in building construction. Test can be run on columns, beams, walls, floors and roofs. Simulates burning of standard cellulosic type building materials. Sometimes referred to as ASTM E-119.

EXPLOSION TESTING
PITT-CHAR XP® has been subjected to 1.8 bar in actual explosion testing with no cracking or disbonding. Because of its flexible nature PITT-CHAR XP® can move with the steel allowing it to take overpressures well into the plastic region of the steel. PITT-CHAR XP® is also less likely to be damaged by flying rubble.
PPG INDUSTRIES, INC. 2002
EXPLOSION TEST DESCRIPTION
Steel panel PFP coated on blast side
60 Kg. charge of ammonium nitrate & fuel oil mixture
Overpressure up to 1.8 bar
Duration 7.5 milliseconds
PPG INDUSTRIES, INC. 2002
EXPLOSION TEST RESULTS
PITT-CHAR XP has been subjected to actual not just simulated explosion testing In actual overpressures out to 1.8 bar PITT-CHAR XP showed no cracking, disbonding or loss of fire protection With its 19.4% elongation PITT-CHAR XP will remain intact long after the steel has been permanently deformed
PPG INDUSTRIES, INC. 2002
CONTRACTOR PROGRAM
PITT-CHAR XP® is only applied by trained certified applicators. Each certified applicator is required to have PPG trained personnel and PPG approved equipment
