Hans J. Wegner’s design cannot be defined solely in terms of style or trend. It is a method for solving functional challenges – simply and elegantly.

Wegner's designs are characterized by tremendous dedication and adherence to functionality and comfort. His works are not just artistic and beautiful - they are practical and useful as well. He has succeeded in eliminating the apparent contradiction between these two worlds. And so his furniture will remain valid.

Wegner's comprehensive legacy is heavily influenced by his background as a cabinetmaker. His designs are carried out with a profound understanding of wood and a refined sense of construc-tional details. He spend a lot of time at PP Møbler's workshop, always in close dialogue with the craftsmen. He was regarded as a colleague, highly respected for his outstanding skills.

Hans J. Wegner was one of the most productive and innovative Danish furniture designers in the 20th century. He has with his own hands crafted a number of unique and extraordinary wooden items and he completed drawings for about five hundred chairs.

Throughout his life Wegner created an impressive range of superior designs. The challenge of creating a good chair was the one he cherished the most, and it was a challenge he met with playful and convincing ideas, turning crafted objects into unique masterpieces.

Hans J. Wegner was born in 1914 in the small town of Tønder, Denmark. In 1932 he completed his formal training as a cabinetmaker, and soon he enrolled into The School of Decorative Art in Copenhagen, where he studied design. In 1943 he founded his own design studio.

His many designs are held in high esteem by furniture collectors around the world, and his work is represented at major design museums such as the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Vitra Design Museum in Germany, and the Sagawa Art Museum in Japan. His work has been awarded many times, including the Lunning Price, the Grand Prix of the Milan Triennale, the Swedish Prince Eugen Medal, and the Danish Eckersberg Medal.

PP Møbler is a family owned Danish joinery work-shop, established in 1953, with a strong tradition for crafting design furniture of high quality.

Motivation has always been the love of wood and a stubborn belief that technique, ingenuity and craftsmanship can be combined in the strive for quality.

The craftsmen at PP Møbler are innovative and thorough working, encouraged to explore and develop skills in the constant search for a better way, a more precise way, of refining the production process, never compromising respect for the material.

The vast majority of PP Møbler’s wood supply comes from the beautiful sustainable forests of Denmark and Germany. The joy of working with wood as an organic whole makes environmental considerations a natural part of PP Møblers work ethics.

The sole purpose of PP Møbler is to create beautiful and functional furniture that can with-stand daily use for generations.
