‘JUST A THOUGHT’……

This link http://www.wilmslow.co.uk/news/article/12310/parents-face-fines-for-illegal-parking-

outside-schools provides the full story of how there is rightly a firm clampdown against dangerous

parking around schools across East Cheshire.

If we are honest, as a school, there are instances of some inconsiderate parking at drop-off, and it is

imperative that it is addressed and that we park considerately and carefully in the morning, especially

at junctions or opposite junctions. Please also avoid parking near the school crossing as it impairs the

view of the children when crossing and places them in great danger.

The bottom line is that inconsiderate and dangerous parking is of greatest threat to our children, and

that is unacceptable. Please park with due consideration for the safety of your, of our wonderful chil-

dren.

In order to alleviate some of the congestion and in order to search for a solution that will help us, I am

adjusting slightly the times at which the children are asked to be in school. So, with immediate effect:

The Prep School, Forms 3-6, now need to be in school by 8.30 a.m.

Pre-Prep, Forms 1 and 2 should be in school by 8.40 a.m.

EYFS need to be in school by 8.50 a.m.

I hope this helps to keep our children safe. Of course, where you have children across two or more

sections of the school then you should, if at all possible, try to be in school at the earliest time stated.

In addition, please may I remind all car drivers (staff, parents or school accredited visitors) that there

is no parking in the disabled spaces on the school drive unless you are a disabled badge holder, or

have express permission to do so by the school. Thank you.

I am attending an IAPS Conference during next week . Therefore, I will away from school until

Thursday. Mr. Goulbourn

RNLI FUNDRAISING

Harry Mascall in Form 4 is raising money for RNLI by visiting all UK lifeboat stations. This year he has visited

75 stations. There is still a long way to go. He hopes to raise £2,500 during this epic challenge and raise

awareness for this great cause – RNLI saves 23 lives every day and is funded entirely by charitable donations.

You can follow his journey on Twitter @HarryMascall1 and read more about his challenge on his fund raising

page. If you would like to help Harry reach his fundraising target you can do so by donating directly to his

fundraising page - http://www.justgiving.com/harrymascall.

Justgiving sends your donation straight to RNLI - Royal National Lifeboat Institution and automatically reclaims

gift aid if you are a UK taxpayer, so your donation is worth even more.

The second hand uniform shop would like to send 10% of any commission they make from their Lent Term

uniform sales to the RNLI in support of the wonderful work Harry has been undertaking over many months.

If you would like to claim your commission then please do let us know and we shall of course pass ion to you. If

you are happy for us to donate, then nothing further needs to be done.

Thank you so much for your support!

HARVEST FESTIVAL

The Pre Prep will be hosting The Harvest Festival

this year on Thursday 8th October at 9.30 a.m.in

our Boddington Theatre.

Children who are not involved are welcome to

contribute by bringing Harvest gifts for the

Wilmslow Food Bank. This is a very worthwhile

charity which supports disadvantaged people

living in our local area. They will be very glad to

receive any tinned or store cupboard goods, which

will be delivered to the charity after the service.

Please bring your Harvest gifts to the Main Hall on

Wednesday 7th October. Thank you for your

support. Beryl Spence

GOLDEN LEAVES

Each week, as you

know, we award a

'golden leaf' to

children who have

had a super week in

school.

‘It’s a small world…after all’

The whole school was brought together last Tuesday to celebrate the European Day of Languages. The

children looked wonderful, dressed up in the colours of their countries and everyone had a fantastic time.

The day started with a parade of EYFS and KS1 children, which was great fun to watch. Nursery children

looked particularly beautiful with their handmade Bulgarian flower headbands. The children had a very busy

morning which included using spaghetti for writing in phonics in Kindergarten, making French flags in Form

1, learning a Greek dance in Form 2, understanding and creating volcanic eruptions in Form 3, tasting food

in Form 4, making the German traditional ‘school cone’ in Form 5 and creating a French play about Gustave

Eiffel visiting his own tower, in Form 6! And the list goes on!

The whole school met up again in the afternoon for a very enjoyable assembly where the children presented

their work from the morning and discovered that many members of staff can speak a foreign language. We

had a great day celebrating the many European Languages. Well done everyone! Madame Pettecrew

F1 AND F2 RUGBY CLUB

I have been really impressed with the commitment,

rugby skills and listening from the Form 1 and 2

Rugby Club so far this term. They have really

understood the importance of looking after the ball

and have enjoyed doing their rugby homework

(watching the Rugby World Cup!).

If these boys keep working hard, then the future

looks bright for Pownall and England!

Mr. Barlow

Recently, we decided to make

the leaves slightly

different to celebrate the

Queen's longest reign. Golden

leaves have now resumed

back to normal!

U10/U11 Netball (A) at The Ryleys

By Sofia Ghorbanian

The Form 5 girls played first against Moor Allerton. The match was

consistent, however, the end score was 3-2 to Moor Allerton. Lexie

was awarded player of the mach.

The next game was Form 6 against The Ryleys. The first half was an

even game and the Ryleys scored a goal. The second half we stepped

up our game and Sofia scored 3 goals! The final score was 3-1 to us.

Well done girls!

U10 Football (H) v St. Pius

By Jake Butler-Smith

The U10 team played really well at home against St. Pius on

Wednesday. We made some brilliant passes when we went forward

but St. Pius took the lead. We fought back from being 0—2 down to

make the score 3—3 until the last three minutes, when St. Pius scored

2 more goals making the final score 3—5.

Man of the match was Daniel because of his amazing skills and for

scoring 2 goals. Noah scored a fantastic goal too! We are really

working well as a team now—well done boys!

U11 Football (H) v St. Pius

By Harrison Dineen

On Wednesday, Pownall U11s played St. Pius. They were a tricky side

but Pownall fought on. The team was: Harrison, Jack, Malachi, Ivan,

Marcus, Aman, George, Morgan and Rhys. We drew 2—2.

Man of the match was George for his superb saves.

We need to work on our attacking skills for next time — well done

boys, keep up the good work!

FORM 4 ART CLUB

In celebration of Queen Elizabeth's longest reign, we looked at

photographs of the Crown Jewels. Form 4 Art Club showed the crowns

that they had created, to the school in assembly. They looked

Fabulous! Well done children - Miss Shaw and myself can't wait until

our next session. Mrs. Henning-Lee
