Mid-Year Update January 3, 2012
Vision Henry County Public Schools where critical thinking is

Accomplishments in 2012
• Implemented READ 180 at the elementary school level and upgraded the middle and high school programs
• Developed and implemented collaborative work sessions by
grade level and subject area • Appointed the committees responsible for developing the
guidelines for the senior project, revised graduation
requirements, digital portfolios and the career readiness certificates

• Professional development for math teachers on performance-based assessment and inquiry-based learning
• Evaluation of ReadiStep program through College Board for
college and career readiness
• Curriculum development will be a major focus in the
upcoming year Henry County Public Schools will be directed by 21st century

Accomplishments in 2012
• Development of a division-wide interview process toolbox for principals
• Appointment of a recruitment team
• Update all recruitment materials to include more information
about the community and the expectations for new teachers

• Restructure the mentorship program for new teachers • Develop a professional development plan for new teachers
• Conduct a staff survey to determine professional development
needs that include communication, collaboration, creativity, innovation, and critical thinking skills

Accomplishments in 2012
• Identified and implemented the following safety teams: Division Strategic Safety Team, Personnel Safety Team, and Student Safety Team
• Implemented routine safety audits throughout division
• Completed second year practicing crisis drills with community partners; Henry County Sheriff's Office, and Henry County Public Safety

• Second semester each school will hold a table top drill with community partners involved
• School resource officers visiting special needs classrooms for
training in event of crisis • Collaborative effort with Henry County to develop crisis plan for
administration building to include school board office

• New high speed fiber network and Internet upgrade for all buildings
• Added iPads and carts in K-2 and 6-12; new mobile device
manager for iPads; two days training in high school on apps; upgraded middle and high schools laptops on refresh program
• Upgraded middle, high and five elementary schools Safari Montage servers

• LAN upgrade (switches, access points, wiring) for both high schools to implement BYOD
• Computer replacement for elementary teachers and replacing two carts of testing computers at each elementary school
• Implement district part of Safari Montage to establish digital
portfolios and sharing points for teachers; upgrade five more elementary Safari servers

Accomplishments in 2012
• Lighting upgrades in some schools with energy efficient lights and/or fixtures
• Energy Supervisor met with staff in all schools to provide training in the area of energy conservation and conducted a sixth grade program on energy conservation
• Monitoring idle time and fuel useage on buses for efficiency • Using Google docs, SMARTBoards and iPads in classrooms and
holding meetings through Video conference to reduce paper consumption

• Conduct a feasibility study of our facilities showing opportunities for mechanical upgrades resulting in future energy savings (ex. upgrading lighting, HVAC, water, etc.)
• Energy Manager continues to train staff and students in energy conservation and behavioral changes to accomplish energy savings
• Continued research and development of ways to incorporate available technological devices such as SMARTBoards and iPads to use technology to the fullest and reduce paper consumption

• Responsibilities shift to designate a person to oversee parent and community outreach
• Designated a key communicator in each school to assist with
promoting school events and accomplishments
• Conducted a protocol with the Superintendent’s Parent Advisory Council to assess current outreach efforts and discuss future efforts

• Develop an outreach website to build capacity for parents, families, and communities to fulfill our vision that every parent be a partner in learning and share in the responsibility of their child's education
• Develop a survey for parents to assess current outreach and
engagement efforts and determine needs for future efforts • All front office staff at all sites will complete “First
Impression” training in the winter of 2012 and administrators will during the summer of 2012
