Arson fires continue to challenge firefighter safety. We must be aware of fire protection

systems being sabotaged, a structure being altered to hamper firefighting efforts or

secondary incidents occurring at our scene. An arson fire of this magnitude often is the

result of environmental terrorists or an insurance fire. Either way firefighter safety is not a

priority for those attempting to gain from this fire.

FIRE GROUND CONSIDERATIONS

Fire Attack

• Did you add additional units? (remember this is originally a single engine response)

• Consider reversing from the edge of the fire area to a hydrant. Keep the apparatus in a

safe location and away from runoff.

• Did you choose 2.5” or 1.75” attack lines? 2.5” gives you plenty of water for this fire but is

far less maneuverable. Would you choose numerous 1.75” attack lines? Would you

consider using a master stream to knock down the main body of fire and then get in

closer with hand lines?

• Which area of fire did you hit first?

• New cars to lessen the $$$ loss

• Used cars where the smaller fire is?
