    - based on the distibution of undersirable outcomes-eitherthe receipt of something negative or the remoral of

    something positive

    - Subordienates may do what their superiors desirebecause they fear the superior will punish them if theydo not

    - it is important to note that punisments are effective

    only if used properly

    Five Sources of Power (French and Raven, 1960):

    1 Referent or Personal Power The ability of leaders

    2. Expert Power the ability to control anothers

    behavior because of the possession

    groups engage so as to acquire and use power toadvance their own interests. In essence, politic is powerin action.

    when people get together in group, power will be exerted.People want to carve out a nice from which to exert

    influence,to earn reward, and to advance their careers.
