Powder South Heli-Ski Guides is South America’s premier helicopter ski opera-tion, located in the heart of the Chilean Central Andes. After eight seasons of successful operation, we proudly con-tinue to offer excellence in heli-skiing, deep in the enchanting and rugged Andes Mountain Range of southern South America.

Powder South Heli-Ski Guides has made a quantum leap in South American heli-copter skiing. Previously, informal ope-rations have offered vertical runs near ski areas. At Powder South, we present an entirely new dimension of remote heli-skiing with world-class standards, and vast terrain for skiers and snow-boarders from around the world.

We offer week long and three day pac-kages of absolutely the best heli-skiing in South America. Our location in the Southern Hemisphere enables us to offer alternate season heli-skiing during the Northern Hemisphere summer.

Location / Terrain

pagina 14

Powder South operates in the Chilean Central Andes, primarily between latitudes 32 degrees and 35 degrees South. We are based outside of Santiago, Chile, where we have access to thou-sands of hectares of unlimited terrain. Such terra-in includes the Aconcagua, Juncal and Rio Colora-do Valleys to the North, the Olivares, Parraguirre, and Tupungato Valleys located centrally, and the Aparejo, Marmolejo, Pangal, Rengo to Tinguiriri-ca Valleys to the South. This is an amazingly vast mountain region offering a variety of endless te-rrain, from glaciated Andean peaks to steep ridges and gullies. Elevations range from 2,500 meters (8,250’) to 4,500 meters (14,850’), a combination of some of the world’s most exciting heli-skiing/snowboarding terrain imaginable, surrounded by a breathtaking backdrop of 6,700 meter (22,000’) peaks.

Our highly skilled, professional guides find te-rrain suitable for every skier and snowboarder’s ability and standards. With access to such a variety of mountain territory and verti-cal, our guides expertly choose ski descents for those who want a challenge and to impro-ve skills, as well as those who want a fun, me-llow, exclusive powder day in the backcountry. We have the privilege of maritime snow pack, which is dry due to the high altitude, synonymous with champagne powder at its best. Snow accu-mulation comes from the Pacific Ocean, a mere 100 miles (160 km) west of the Andes. Flying con-ditions are best during winter, due to an almost zero thermal reduction, which is a daily weather phenomena in summer caused by heat and cumu-lus build-up in early afternoon.

Lodging

pagina 16

We use the existing and comfortable infrastruc-ture of Chile’s traditional mountain lodges, Our deluxe, locally owned, and tasteful El Ingenio Lod-ge, a jewel of Andean hospitality is located in the Maipo Valley and family run to perfection.

At the lodge you will be able to enjoy all the ameni-ties expected from a mountain lodge - an outdoor hot tub and swimming pool, gourmet cuisine, and infinite Chilean hospitality. Treat yourself to a massage after skiing, or read a book in front of the

fireplace while served delicious appetizers prepa-red daily by our Chef.

The El Ingenio Lodge has a character all of its own. We consider it to be one of a kind in the heli-ski business, one of the Central Andes’ best kept se-crets, within 5 minutes of the South American continent’s best heli-skiing! This uniqueness may include an inviting outdoor fire, meals served out-side twice a week when mild temperatures at the lodge permit, or fresh homemade ice cream and

cold beer, served as you step off the helicopter, af-ter a long day of heli-skiing/boarding.

Perhaps the character comes from the Chilean-style hospitality, as the lodge keeper runs towards the group with your après-ski shoes in a wheel-barrow to change into as soon as you land, or the homemade pastries, ice cream of all flavors, and fresh natural juices that await you.

Powder South is expanding to new terrain and

adding to our choice of lodges. We have made a recent discovery the magnificent Condor Valley. Also, we are now able to operate with ease, from the rooftop of 5 star hotels in the cosmopolitan city of Santiago, Chile to our many heli-ski des-tinations, for groups wanting the night life. And our newest, best-kept secret….. a 17th century ha-cienda, located at the foothills of the Aconcagua Valley, the home of Chile’s finest wines.

Page 18: PowderSouth 2012 Brochure

Saturday Day 1After landing in Santiago, Chile, a Powder South representative will meet you at the airport and direct you to our van for ground transportation, or to your reserved helicopter connection, to transport you to your lodging in the mountains. You will meet with your heli-ski guide for gear check, briefing, and group selection. Later an avalanche beacon search and safety clinic will be conducted, along with the requi-red helicopter briefing. Welcome Dinner at the Lodge.

Sunday Day 2 Immediately after breakfast we walk to the heliport only yards from your room. Soon we will carve our first turns in the pristine Andes, an unforgettable alpine setting of Himalayan proportions. Each group will have a minimum of 1 heli-ski guide, a 4:1 & 5:1 ratio depending on the number of guests and helicopters we use. Today we take it slowly. It will be your first day exposed to the thin air at nearly 15,000’ elevation in the magnificent surroundings of the dramatic and rugged Central Andes Mountains. Back to Base for the night to a well deserved gourmet dinner at the Lodge.

Heli-Ski / Snowboard Week Overview

pagina 18

Page 19: PowderSouth 2012 Brochure

Monday Day 3After breakfast we gain altitude as we become more comfortable and familiar with the terrain, as well as better accli-matized to the altitude. There is always the possibility of disco-vering a new landing zone, or virgin terrain never skied or snow-boarded before. It is highly likely that you will have the chance to pioneer a few runs with us, since the terrain is vast, the possi-bilities endless, and much is yet unexplored. Return to Base and dinner at the Lodge.

Tuesday Day 4Another exciting day with more runs, powder and fun! We con-tinue discovering the Andes and tracking new powder. Picnic at mid-day, then continue heli-skiing and/or heli-boarding. By this time the group will be well acclimatized and feeling stronger. We may go a bit higher or perhaps move to a different valley, de-pending on conditions, and group strength and abilities. Return to Base for dinner.

Wednesday Day 5After breakfast we repeat our heli-ski routine. Those who are ready for a break can soak at the nearby hot springs, go horse-back riding, choose a day of resort skiing, or simply relax at the Lodge.

Thursday Day 6After breakfast we continue with our exciting program; more heli-time, and more turns and vertical feet in the majestic Andes Mountains. Return to Base for dinner.

Friday Day 7After breakfast we start our 6th and final day of our heli-ski / heli-board journey into the Andes. After skiing, we pack and transfer you to your hotel in Santiago, the Ritz Carlton or “W” Hotel, for an enjoyable Friday evening in the city.

Saturday Day 8Breakfast and relaxing morning at your hotel. You may choose to continue traveling in Chile and South America, or to return home.

Unique Heliskiing Placesof the World

Sweden - Ski the LastRemaining Wildernessof Europe

Sweden offers some of the best and wildest heliskiing in Europe.

In 1994, Stefan Palm began Heliskiguides Sweden, with his wife Pia. Stefan’s in-troduction to heli-skiing in the north of Sweden was in the spring of 1985. He spent the very last money he had, after a season ski bumming in Chamonix, on a heliski day with friends. And he was hooked for life!

To keep their flexibility, Heliskiguides Sweden works with small groups of 1-8 clients. Maximum guide/client ratio is 1:4. Heliskiguides Sweden guarantees that all of their heliski guides are UIAGM/IFMGA certified and have a passion for skiing.

Heliskiguides Sweden exists for the love of skiing with their clients!
