EXCELLENCE INNOVATION SUCCESS COMMUNITY POTTSVILLEBEACH PUBLIC SCHOOL Wednesday 8 May 2019 Term 2 Week 2 PRINCIPAL NEWS Welcome back! Term 2 is full steam ahead! As the incoming relieving Principal, this opportunity allows me to return to the coast. I am very excited to be working with learners, staff and the school community in continuing to build high expectations in quality teaching and education for all at Pottsville Beach Public School. I feel very fortunate to be joining such a friendly and supportive school community. My aim is to ensure our learners feel secure, motivated and challenged in their education within an outstanding quality learning environment, taught by dedicated professional teachers. Encouraging learners to strive towards achieving personal best in academic, sporting, cultural and interpersonal endeavours is at the core of our daily teaching and learning programs. Working in partnership with you will further strengthen the positive parent and staff partnership we have here at Pottsville Beach Public School. Prior to my appointment to the school, I have had the privilege of leading South Coogee Public School in Sydney. A passionate school community with a focus on visible learning practices that ensured success and progress. I also hold educational leadership, consultant and other responsibilities that support fellow Principals and teachers, Internationally and Nationally, in collective efficacy practises and effective research-based educational strategies that cultivate strong future directions for the entire school community. I am appreciative to David Robson (Director Educational Leadership) and Mark Downward for the opportunity to work collaboratively with Pottsville Beach Public School; sharing our experience, knowledge and skill to provide the best opportunities for our children. I’m sure you will see me on the playground, so please do not hesitate to introduce yourself. I look forward to meeting you. DEPUTY PRINCIPAL NEWSParent Planner - Our current Term at a Glance format has had a facelift and a name change. This change has come about from a need to make this document user friendly for staff, parents and students. The new Parent Planner has been colour coded to represent the colour of the paper of stage notes. The Parent Planner has also been linked with our Skoolbag APP - all of the dates are on the APP calendar for easy reference. A push notification will also be sent out when an event has been changed, updated or cancelled. We look forward to your feedback.Reports - Reports are sent home twice a year and are an important tool to communicate student progress and achievement. Our school report has been changed and staff are excited to use this new format. We look forward to parent feedback. Semester 1 Parent Teacher interview information will be distributed in coming weeks.Aboriginal Garden Additions - last year we received a grant through the efforts of our P&C President Danielle Heaver’s of $10,000 from our Education Minister the Hon. Sarah Mitchell MLC and Geoff Provest MP. This grant has allowed us to maintain the garden and replenish sand, soft fall and mulch as well as invite three new friends into our beautiful Aboriginal Garden. On Monday our students had the opportunity to welcome them and they have been fully embraced by our students. A huge thank you to our very own Polly for all of his work in maintaining this space for us. Thank you also to Mr Geoff Richards of Richo’s Landscaping, who has supplied us with all of our garden needs as well as ensuring the safe transport for our new friends. Thank you Richo. You will also see that our garden has been extended and has some lovely new plants. Thank you to Katie John’s our P&C Treasurer who sourced a Woolworth’s grant of $1000 for our garden. We were able to buy mature coastal natives. Our garden has moved beyond the fence and looks amazing.NAPLAN - In Week 3 our Year 3 and Year 5 students will participate in the NAPLAN testing. These tests will run over lunch days with make-up tests being held the following Monday. Good luck to all of our students.Walk Safely to School (Friday 17 May) - Living in our beautiful coastal setting many of our students make their way to school by walking and riding. On Friday 17 May we would like to see as many of our students as possible and to invite our parents and community to join us on this day to celebrate Walk Safely to School. REMINDER Students returning to school with any injuries - parents are asked to notify the front office so that a risk management plan can be implemented for their child’s safe return to school.Kathy Frost - Relieving Deputy Principal
