Potential Movie Opening – 3 The opening of the movie begins with a mid-shot of a radio, and a hand appearing increasing the volume. The scene then cuts to a young girl looking out of her window. She seems to be quite upset and helpless, and is living in poor conditions, which is shown as part of the mise- en-scene. The scene then progresses to a mid- close up of a young man washing his face, he is seemingly going through his daily routine. A young girl is then shown taking a cup of a cupboard and preparing a drink for herself. There is a graphic match between the shower being turned on and the tap being switched on as well. Throughout this whole sequence the credits are rolling and finally the title of the movie ‘Blacklisted’ appears. After this sequence, an extreme close up of a man’s hand arranging his pencils in an obsessive manor is shown. We then see an over the shoulder shot of him going through his case files and finding an empty report for him to fill. Before this scene, there is a radio broadcast playing of a news reporter filling in the citizens with the latest titles. After the sequence cuts back to the woman, a broadcast from the dictator begins and runs through till the end. There is constant parallel editing between the man in the office and the woman in her house. Eventually there is a close up of the woman receiving a phone call and as a result of the call she quickly runs and packs up her things to run away as she has been informed that she is the latest target of the dictator who is aiming in creating a pure race in Britain.
