Combined D9940 Conference -Zone 7b/8 Institute
Thanks for the part you played!
Thank you for attending last weekend's Combined Zone
Institute/District 9940 Conference. It was a thrill to see so many
people together at the same time in the amazing Michael Fowler
Centre and then to look out over the crowd at the Saturday
evening dinner where we were close to full capacity.
I am particularly grateful to see so many from Australia attending
and obviously enjoying themselves. As I said in the opening
having a Zone Institute of Australia and New Zealand and
combining it with a District Conference is quite unique. In fact we
believe that this is the first time ever across the Rotary world that
this has happened. Feedback I have received from the District
attendees suggests that they enjoyed the opportunity to meet
Rotarians from across the two countries and also to listen to and
meet speakers of the calibre including the President Elect, Trustee
and our Zone Director, which they would not normally meet!
While it is fresh in your minds may I ask a favour please? I have
attached a short survey which I believe will help future Institutes
and Conferences ensure they remain relevant to what members
want? If you could click on the attached link.
Thank you again. Without you the weekend wouldn't have been
the same!! Best wishes for a relaxing Christmas and a New Year
the way you want it!!
Yours in Rotary

Combined D9940 Conference -Zone 7b/8 Institute
Yes, yes and yes!
Did this conference enable leaders to join with others, exchange
ideas and take action? Was the focus on inspiration, innovation,
ideas and interaction? Did it re-motivate or encourage new action?
For me, the answer is yes, yes and yes.
What was happening on stage with a slew of inspirational speakers
was complemented by the discussion in the breaks amongst
participants – note, participants, not audience. New Zealand has
not seen such a Rotary gathering for many years and there is no
doubt that the mix of Rotarians from around District 9940 and from
around Zones 7b and 8 meant a more fruitful and animated
engagement across the three days. The participation of RIPE Ravi,
TRF Chair Jackson, and RID Guiller and spouses added substantial
strength to the programme.
I have been very fortunate in that an RI Board, D9940 Institute
leaders and the Rotary Club of Wellington agreed to have a
combined multi-faceted event – a world first for Rotary. And then
having such an experienced team, led by PDG Pat, from Institute
and Club come together to design and run an event so seamlessly.
They have done
Rotary proud.
As we leave this
event behind,
however, I come
away with two
things: first, that
the stories of
inspiration are necessary to feed our spirits and encourage us that
ordinary people, like us, can do extraordinary things if we join
together; and second, that good intent must be matched with a
constant willingness to face up to the call for adaption to new
environments.
Ravi, Jackson, Guiller and Sir Anand directed our attention to the
need to look to the foundations of our beloved Rotary if it is to be
fit for purpose. Paul Harris and Ches Perry ensured Rotary evolved
during their lifetimes; 110 years on, we need to be as far sighted
and clear-eyed.
Thank you to all those who participated and the many more who
sent their best wishes. The best conferences make a difference; I
am interested in hearing how this conference has made a difference
for you. Take time to complete the SURVEY.

"The Conference went off brilliantly. Planning,
planning and more planning made this a successful
event. From a first-time attendee, well done! I for
one had a great time, listened to some excellent
speakers and meet a lot of great Rotarians.
“Enthused” would be the one word I would describe
what I came away with.
"It was one of the most enjoyable times we have had
