IGCC is a systemwide research unit of the University of California, headquartered on the U.C. SanDiego campus. It was established to conduct and encourage research and instructional programs inthe causes of international conflict and the opportunities for international cooperation.

The Coordinators of Policy Research report to the Director of IGCC and are responsible for assistingin the organization and conduct of IGCC policy-related projects-for example, on conventional arms

control, nuclear proliferation and nuclear arms control, Asian security relations, international environ-mental policy, and economic competitiveness and national security. The main responsibilities of thepersons occupying these positions are to provide an effective link between scholarship in internationalaffairs conducted in the UC system and the world of foreign policymaking in the United States andabroad. The Coordinators of Policy Research at one and the same time must possess scholarlycredentials and enjoy the respect of academics, while being conversant with the major foreign policyissues of the day and having demonstrated experience in the foreign policymaking process. Amongthe specific tasks of the Coordinators of Policy Research are organizing international conferencesaddressing major foreign policy issues, preparing discussion papers for these, disseminating thefindings of IGCC policy-relevant studies as widely as possible, working with research directors anddevelopment personnel on fundraising, and supervising postdoctoral fellows in related researchfields. To lead team in architecting, designing andimplementing an object-oriented interface definition lan-guage and compiler for a distributed object managementfacility. Also responsible for managing the relationshipwith a joint development partner for this language andcompiler. Salary: $75,200 per year. Forty hours perweek.
