Drawing from the richness of our “deep roots” and the relevance of a modern church, we have experienced consistent growth over the last five years and believe this new position will play a vital role in continuing our mission to love God and love others in a way that brings hope to the world. This is the second full time position on our staff, called to work with the lead pastor, other staff and strong volunteer teams to expand our ministry to all ages, including an emphasis on children, youth and families. The ideal candidate will be gifted and excited to work with all ages, as this position is a blend between children/youth (60%) and adult (40%) ministry. The job description is intentionally broad, leaving room for the evolving needs of the church and consideration for the unique gifts of the individual called to the position. Some of the initial goals in the position will include: - Work alongside our existing team of excellent volunteers to provide leadership and direction to our ministry to families with children and youth (4-K through high school) and champion our vision to equip parents to be the primary spiritual influence in their families. - Serve as part of the greater pastoral and staff team, working to incorporate all ages in as many aspects of the church as possible. This will include providing direction, vision and leadership to various areas of ministry, scheduled preaching, pastoral care, outreach, and other responsibilities as needed. The successful candidate will have strong relational skills, administration and coordination, a passion for equipping others, a calling to disciple children and adults in a multigenerational church, and an excitement about being part of a larger team working together toward common goals. Formal education and/or experience leading family and youth/children’s ministry is required. Being a church that is “Christian first, Lutheran second”, interested candidates do not need to be from a Lutheran background, but should be open to serving within our unique Lutheran church. This is a full time, salary position. Salary will be based on qualifications and experience. Benefits are available, with total compensation package not to exceed $40,000-60,000 range. St. John’s is a member of the newer, evangelical and mission-focused denomination Lutheran Congregations in Mission for Christ (lcmc.net), and is a charter member of a grassroots movement of churches in Walworth County across denominational lines called Refresh (refreshchurches.com). We are located in the middle of beautiful Walworth County, commonly referred to as the “lakes area” of southeastern Wisconsin. Approximately one hour from Chicago, Milwaukee, and Madison, this area is a popular vacation getaway for city dwellers, but also a great place to raise a family with friendly residential neighborhoods and top-rated schools. Congregation Description St. John’s, founded in 1898, is located in the heart of downtown Elkhorn, Wisconsin, the county seat of Walworth County, and just 10 minutes north of Lake Geneva. Our vision is to continue to grow as a vibrant, multigenerational family of faith, drawing from the richness of our “deep roots” and the relevance of a modern church. Everything we do reflects this vision, blending relevant aspects of our heritage into a fresh and modern atmosphere. We hold three worship services on Sundays, one traditional and two contemporary. Sermons are Biblically based and incorporate personal testimonies and dramatic elements on a regular basis. Average Sunday morning worship attendance since 2011 has gone from 90 to 175, peaking over 200 on certain Sundays (and over 350 during recent Christmas and Easter holidays). St. John’s is a member of the newer, evangelical and mission-focused denomination Lutheran Congregations in Mission for Christ (lcmc.net), and is a charter member of a grassroots movement of churches in Walworth County across denominational lines called Refresh (refreshchurches.com).

Children, Youth and Family Ministry Programming These are the current ministries taking place at St. John’s, and are subject to change. Our philosophy for children and youth ministry is to support parents and other key influences in a child’s life so that they are equipped for ongoing Christian discipleship that starts in the home. Regular Children and Youth Program Ministries

Sunday School is held weekly during the 9:15am worship service year-round, and is based in the Orange Children’s Ministry curriculum (www.whatisorange.org). Average attendance is between 19-30 kids each week. One of the first goals of this position is to expand this ministry. We currently have a great team of volunteer leaders that are excited to work with the person in this position to grow into the future.

Junior/Senior High youth programs are currently held Wednesdays from 6:30-8:00pm September – May and average 18-20 students per week. This program includes weekly Bible study, discussion, and regular outreach events. Family Confirmation – The Family Pastor will play a key role in this ministry, working with the pastor and volunteers to incorporate key Christian discipleship teachings into the regular junior/senior high youth programs. This is not a typical confirmation program, and we are always looking for new ways to support ongoing Christian discipleship across all ages within families. Yearly Children and Youth Trips, Retreats and Events Elementary WinterFest Retreat – Yearly retreat for elementary students at nearby Covenant Harbor Bible Camp (covenantharbor.org). This event will be promoted and attended by the person in this position. Vacation Bible School is held one week in July for ages 4 through completed 6th grade in the evenings. Offered free to everyone in the community, including a family dinner before VBS each night. This position will be responsible for overseeing a team leading this event. Spring Dare2Share – Yearly weekend retreat to Chicago for junior and senior high students. This position would be responsible for overseeing a team leading this event. Mission Trip – 8-12 day domestic summer mission trip for high school. This position would be expected to play an organizing role in these trips. Summer Camp – St. John’s is blessed to be surrounded by several great camp ministries. We have members that are currently on staff at several, and encourage children and students to participate in summer camp.

Current Programming (Continued) Adult and Family Program Ministries This is just a snapshot of the many programs and events that take place at St. John’s. Alpha – This outreach course covers the basics of the Christian faith and currently has over 25 participants who meet weekly. Bethel Bible Class – A two year, intense overview of the entire Bible, led by our pastor. Over 50 people have competed this course. Sermon-Based Weekly Groups – Groups are formed to gather in homes for fellowship and study of the material covered on Sunday mornings. Topical Classes, Circles, and Groups – Throughout the year, several groups gather to study various subjects such as prayer, grief, or books of the Bible. Outreach Events – Throughout the year, we open our doors to the community through special outreach events. These include bi-monthly Parent’s Night Out (free childcare to support parents who need a “night out”), a yearly Improv Comedy Night and Chili Cookoff (having fun and raising money for local charities), yearly worship and picnic in the city park (including baptisms in the city pool), and leading worship at the annual Walworth County Fair. Mission Outreach St. John’s has a long history of serving the community and beyond. We currently support two mission efforts in Africa, including Bible translation and a missionary family, Holly and Fred Okoth, based in Kenya. This support has included a mission trip to Kenya, regular missionary support, and child sponsorships. In our own community, we are members of HOPE NOW, a non-profit organization in Elkhorn reaching out with resources for those out of work or with financial difficulties, Meals-on-Wheels, a volunteer effort through Walworth County to bring meals to the homes of those in need, and we support Safe Families, which is “a movement of families helping children and parents in crisis.”
