A message from Carlos A. Gimenez, Miami-Dade County Mayor

Welcome to PortMiami, global gateway for commerce

    and tourism.

It is a privilege to play a role in the success story

of Miami-Dade Countys seaport, which, thanks to the

tireless dedication of the PortMiami team, each day further earns

its unique dual distinctions of Global Gateway for Cargo and Cruise

    Capital of the World.

PortMiami proficiently connects cargo from around the globe with

U.S. markets while serving as the worlds longstanding No. 1 cruise

    home port.

At the same time, PortMiami is a major contributor to the economic

wellbeing of Miami-Dade County. The seaport helps drive $41.4 billion

of goods and services throughout our economy, generating 324,352

direct, indirect and user related jobs.

PortMiami is poised to continue to grow in global prominence while

strengthening our local community of 2.7 million residents from more

    than 120 countries.

A message from Juan M. Kuryla, PortMiami Director and CEO

As we see our more than $1.3 billion commitment to

infrastructure enhancement beginning to reap benefits,

the PortMiami team can now proudly say that we are

not only big-ship ready, but we are indeed actively and

efficiently serving many of todays super-sized vessels of both

    cargo and cruise sectors.

When the expanded locks of the Panama Canal opened in the

summer of 2016, we were prepared with our -50/-52-foot-deep main

ship channel, super-post-Panamax cranes, on-dock rail facility and

    PortMiami Tunnel all in place.

As mega-alliances of ocean carriers deploy larger containerships

and cruise lines introduce bigger pleasure vessels, PortMiami is

committed to continuing to offer optimum infrastructure combined

    with impeccable customer service.

And, while big may be the focus in terms of ship sizes,

we will always be paying passionate attention to the smallest

of details in serving everyone with whom we come in contact.

    Its the PortMiami way!

PortMiami is now able to handle some of the worlds largest cruise vessels as well as mega-containerships, as it is benefiting from investments in facilities totaling more than a billion dollars that should help keep the port on a record-setting course for decades to come.

With a world-record passenger count of nearly 5 million in the fiscal year ended Sept. 30, 2016, while handling more than 1 million 20-foot-equivalent units of containerized cargo, PortMiami is furthering its time-honored dual positions as

Cruise Capital of the World and Global Gateway for Cargo.Completion of the Deep Dredge project makes PortMiami the only major

U.S. facility south of Virginia with a channel capable of handling neo-Panamax containerships when fully laden. The depth of PortMiamis main shipping channel is now at 50 feet, with 2 feet of overdraft, typically expressed by industry as -50/-52 feet.

PortMiamis contingent of 13 container cranes, including half a dozen super-post-Panamax gantries, whisks cargo on and off these mega-vessels and across newly fortified wharves, while highway tunnel and on-dock rail installations afford leading-edge intermodal connectivity with markets throughout the U.S. Southeast and beyond.

Each of these endeavors was completed in advance of the mid-2016 opening of the expanded canal link between Pacific and Atlantic oceans, making PortMiami truly big-ship ready on a timely basis.

The dual-tube PortMiami Tunnel swiftly moves cargo trucks, cruise passenger

buses and other vehicles under Biscayne Bay, providing ready access between the island seaport and the Interstate highway network without the need to traverse downtown Miami streets.

Meanwhile, the on-dock rail facility, developed through a public-private partnership, affords seamless transfer of cargo onto freight trains that link to the nations rail system.

Another public-private partnership, with Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd., is engaged in a more than $200 million undertaking to build a new Cruise Terminal

A, which is to be the largest U.S. cruise facility, with ability, when completed in 2018, to smoothly accommodate the biggest cruise ships ever.

In October 2016, PortMiami got a further boost with allocation of $33 million in state grants that are to be used to help fund Cruise Terminal F expansion, as well as procure three additional super-post-Panamax container cranes, upgrade cargo terminal yards and support future development of an inland intermodal facility.

PortMiami celebrates a new Big Ship Era with the arrival of the first Miami-bound Neopanamax vessel via the expanded Panama Canal.

Unlike others, we have been serving shipping lines at the Port of Mi-ami for over 55 consecutive years, Miami is our HOME, our only HOME, and as such we focus our efforts here, to provide our customers with unparalleled service customized to their requirements right here at our HOME port.

For half a century, PortMiami has been the worlds leading cruise port and it continues to advance its No. 1 home port status with more ships and additional leading-edge passenger terminal facilities.

Known for decades as the Cruise Capital of the World, PortMiami has once again set a worldwide record for handlings of multiday passengers with nearly 5 million in the fiscal year ended Sept.30, 2016.

Indeed, the modern cruise era began at PortMiami in December 1966, and the port has remained at the industry forefront ever since.

Already home to close to 20 cruise brands and 45 cruise ships, PortMiami

is poised to add to its fleet in fall 2017 with the addition of MSC Cruises MSC Seaside, an innovative, 5,179-passenger ship that is to be the first of MSCs next-generation Seaside-class vessels. In addition, Celebrity Cruises 2,850-passenger Celebrity Equinox is to offer year-round sailing beginning in summer 2017.

Royal Caribbean International has announced that, beginning in fall 2018, what is to become the biggest cruise ship ever, the Symphony of the Seas, is to join sister Oasis-class ship Allure of the Seas, with a double occupancy of 4,180 passengers, in Caribbean cruises from PortMiami.

PortMiami is looking forward to welcoming more newbuild vessels in 2018,

including Norwegian Cruise Lines 4,250-passenger Norwegian Bliss and Carnival Cruise Lines 3,974-passenger Carnival Horizon. In addition, an MSC Cruises 4,888-pasenger newbuild, MSC Meraviglia, is scheduled to homeport at PortMiami on a year-round basis beginning in 2019, and in 2020, Richard Bransons Virgin Voyages is slated to set sail from PortMiami with the first of its 2,700-passenger pleasure ships.

The past year has seen PortMiami welcome the first of Carnival Cruise Lines Splendor-class vessels, the 3,006-passenger Carnival Splendor; Norwegian Cruise Lines 4,248-passenger Norwegian Escape; Royal Caribbean Internationals 1,840-passenger Empress of the Seas; and a trio of Aida Cruises seagoing club resorts, the 2,050-passenger AIDAdiva, 2,194-passenger AIDAmar and 1,266-passenger AIDAvita. PortMiamis fleet also recently expanded to include two additional newly built cruise ships Carnival Cruise Lines 3,934-passenger Carnival Vista and Regent Seven Seas Cruises 750-passenger Seven Seas Explorer.

PortMiami-based cruise ships offer a wide array of departures for ports of call throughout the Caribbean, Bahamas, Mexico and beyond. And, of course, the ports location in the heart of Miami makes it perfectly positioned for passengers to discover a wealth of tropical touristic offerings before and/or after their cruises.

PortMiamis cruise facilities are the most modern in the world, adding to vacationers unforgettable experiences, and, as the port launches its new era of smart cruising, multiple initiatives are making the PortMiami facilities even better.

To accommodate its big new ships, Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. is engaged in a more than $200 million public-private partnership with Miami-Dade County that is developing a new Cruise Terminal A, which, when completed in 2018, is to be the nations largest and most innovative cruise facility.

Also, to handle MSC Cruises newest entry, PortMiamis signature Cruise Terminal F is undergoing renovations and expansion.

Not surprisingly, PortMiami continues to be honored with top cruise industry awards, including most recently being named Best U.S. Homeport in the 2017 Porthole Cruise Magazine Editor-in-Chief Awards competition.

BIG-SHIP READY: PortMiamilinks world markets with U.S.

As the Global Gateway for Cargo, ideally situated at the crossroads of north-south and east-west trade lanes, PortMiami is enhancing its position as a preferred link between markets throughout the world and the United States.

In its 2015-2016 fiscal year, PortMiami handled nearly 1.03 million 20-foot-equivalent units of containerized cargo, the ports highest TEU count in more than a decade, but port officials are by no means resting upon their laurels.

With its channel depth of -50/-52 feet, 13 container cranes, on-dock rail and tunnel, PortMiami is living up to its big-ship ready promise.

The mid-2016 opening of the expanded Panama Canal is already bringing more super-sized containerships to PortMiami, which is the nearest full-service U.S. container port to the canal.

In fact, just two weeks after the wider Panama locks opened to ship traffic, PortMiami welcomed Mitsui O.S.K. Lines 6,724-TEU-capacity MOL Majesty following its canal passage from Japan. PortMiami Director and CEO Juan M. Kuryla called it a huge day for Miami as the port received the first neo-Panamax containership transiting the expanded canal.

The $1.3 billion in combined investments in channel deepening, the four newest super-post-Panamax container cranes, on-dock rail and the island ports

PortMiami speeds produceto tables of U.S. consumers

PortMiami provides an express lane to U.S. consumers for a full spectrum of perishable produce, from bananas and melons to blueberries and grapes to avocados and asparagus.

With same-day deliveries into Central Florida, fastest-to-market transit times of one to two days throughout the Southeast and reaching such markets as Chicago and New York in as few as three days, PortMiami furnishes the perfect link between Latin American growers and U.S. consumers.

In fact, with its superb highway and rail connections, including on-dock rail loading capabilities, PortMiami gets perishables to 70 percent of the U.S. population within four days or less.

Because PortMiami is the closest U.S. port to Latin America and the Caribbean, with frequent sailings throughout the region and beyond, it offers the shortest

ocean shipping times for major producers of fruits and vegetables, which translates into extended shelf life.

PortMiamis U.S. Department of Agriculture staff, plus extended hours of operation and expanded on-port fumigation facilities, ensure efficient release of perishable cargos.

PortMiami is now in its fifth year of successfully participating in a pilot program of USDA, U.S. Customs and Border Protection and the Florida Perishables Trade Coalition allowing select cold-treated Latin American produce to come directly into the port.

And PortMiami is designated as a CBP Center of Excellence and Expertise for Agriculture and Prepared Products.

PortMiami offers fastest-to-market transit times for perishables. (Transit times may vary depending upon providers.)

    PortMiami team embodiescommitment to serving

The PortMiami team of employees is steadfastly committed to delivering outstanding service to cargo and cruise customers alike.

This service-oriented culture is generated by way of constant dedication to hard work and recognition that satisfied customers are the hallmark of any great organization a credo instilled by leaders at federal, state and local levels, including Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez, the Miami-Dade Board of County Commissioners and PortMiami Director and CEO Juan M. Kuryla.

All PortMiami employees receive comprehensive customer service training, and, through responsiveness to feedback, the PortMiami team is continually making enhancements to the customer experience by implementing the latest service strategies.

It is little wonder that more than 90 percent of surveyed cruise passengers rated their PortMiami experience as good to excellent. And it should come as no surprise that PortMiamis employees strive each day to raise that already impressive satisfaction level to 100 percent.

PortMiami honors employees with distinguished awards Three PortMiami employee team members have been singled out with honors for their productivity, professionalism and positive attitudes. From among 11 nominees, Ronald Fox, capital inventory clerk, and Dionisia Whitfield, seaport superintendent, were selected as co-recipients of the 2016 PortMiami Employee of the Year award, while Alissa Penaloza, manager of seaport planning and grants, was chosen as 2016 PortMiami Executive Employee of the Year.

The awards were presented by Juan M. Kuryla, PortMiamis Port Director and CEO, as part of the PortMiami Proud program.

runs on electricity, resulting in significant reductions in carbon dioxide emissions via elimination of the need to annually burn hundreds of thousands of gallons of diesel fuel.

PortMiamis wide-reaching energy-saving program is on target to reduce the ports power usage by 20 percent by 2020. The program encompasses use of solar-reflective roofing, integration of daylight into cruise terminals, building management control systems, low-flow plumbing fixtures, replacement of lighting fixtures port-wide with LED, and use of renewable materials.

Construction, expansion and renovation projects at the port are designed to meet Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) standards established by the U.S. Green Building Council.

The PortMiami Tunnel takes an estimated 22,000 vehicle trips per day off downtown Miami streets, not only greatly reducing congestion but also substantially cutting emissions-producing idling.

More than $32 million has been invested in environmental measures in conjunction with the deepening of PortMiami channel areas, including a 16.9-acre seagrass restoration in Biscayne Bay, creation of 11.6 acres of offshore artificial reefs, relocation of more than 1,700 coral colonies (twice the number called for in permitting) and donations to the Biscayne Bay Environmental Enhancement Trust Fund.

Among projects in which PortMiami has completed is the 63-acre red mangrove enhancement program at Oleta River State Park in North Miami-Dade County and placement of over 1800 artificial reef modules in North Biscayne Bay. Mangroves sustainably serve as feeding, breeding and nursery grounds for a wide variety of fish, shellfish, birds and other wildlife while artificial reefs create homes for many fish and lobsters.

PortMiami also participates in the Miami-Dade Countys Art in Public Places program, with installations providing beautification while, in the case of macro-photographs depicting colorful corals, raising awareness of natures resources surrounding the port area.

In addition, PortMiami continues to advance infrastructure designs that take into consideration potential 3-foot rise of sea level and which exceed requirements for stormwater retention.

Macro-photographs of soft corals are part of Miami-Dade County Art in Public Places installations.

Layered approach providessafe, secure port property

A layered approach to security proactively ensures PortMiami is a safe and secure place for commerce, with a focus upon deterring unwelcome activity while ensuring the unhindered flow of cargo and cruise passengers.

Federal grants have helped PortMiami to enhance access control, camera surveillance systems and boat patrol assets in the post-9/11 environment.

A combination of sworn and nonsworn law enforcement personnel, as well as canines, provides protection, alongside the high-posture resources of the PortMiami Safety and Security Division. These assets are augmented by those of the Miami-Dade County Police Department and private security firms employed by tenant cargo yards. Each marine terminal operator performs under its own safety program, in accordance with federal mandates.

Also critical is collaboration with a full spectrum of local, state and federal agencies, including Miami-Dade Fire Rescue, which maintains an on-port firehouse and marine station; Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission; Florida Department of Law Enforcement; U.S. Customs and Border Protection; U.S. Department of Agriculture and U.S. Coast Guard.

The opening of the PortMiami Tunnel in addition to expediting movement of vehicles has provided the island seaport with a safety-related additional means of ingress and egress, augmenting the ports bridge link with the Miami mainland. Both the tunnel and bridge are protected by landside and waterside public safety assets.

PortMiami offers world-class facilities for cargo and cruise operations.

As a result of the completed channel-deepening project, PortMiami has

further enhanced its capabilities for serving mega-containerships, as

reflected in the following updated port facilities information:

AnchorageFor vessels anchoring outside of the harbor, the prescribed anchorage area

is located eastward of a line about 1.5 nautical miles offshore and northward of

a line about 0.2 nautical miles north of the sea buoy marking the main channel

entrance. The northern and southern extremities of the anchorage area are

    marked by nun buoys.

To avoid possible damage to cables laid on the ocean bottom and natural coral

reefs in the vicinity, refer to Anchorage Area 110.188 on National Oceanic and

Atmospheric Administration survey charts 11466 and 11468.

Channels and turning basinsThe harbor entrance is approximately 2.5 nautical miles from the Atlantic

Ocean. The sea buoy marking the main channel is located at Latitude 2546.135

    N, Longitude 8015.001 W.

Vessels entering the harbor from the Atlantic Ocean travel through Government

Cut (500 feet wide, 52 feet deep).

The main ship channel (36 feet deep), used primarily by cruise vessels, is 400

feet wide along the north side of Lummus Island and 900 feet wide along the

    north side of Dodge Island.

The south shipping channel is 440 feet wide with a controlled depth of 50 feet.

The main ship channel forms the northern boundary of PortMiami. The

channel terminates at a 1,600-foot diameter main turning basin (36 feet

    deep).

The Fisher Island turning basin (50 feet deep) is a truncated basin located

north of Fisher Island at the junction between the main and south shipping

channels. It has a diameter of 1,500 feet.

The Lummus turning basin (50 feet deep) is 1,500 feet in diameter and is

located along the south shipping channel at the transition point between

    Lummus and Dodge islands.

The south shipping channel terminates at a 900-foot diameter western

    turning basin (32 feet deep).

These waterways provide access to all of PortMiamis berth areas, as well as

to the Miami River and Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway. They are part of a channel

access system maintained by the port as a sponsor to the U.S. Army Corps of

    Engineers.

Tides and currentsThe normal mean tidal range at the harbor entrance is 2.5 feet; for Biscayne

Bay it is about 2 feet. The extreme tidal range is about 4 feet. Easterly winds may

raise the water level 1.5 feet at the harbor entrance and from 1 to 1.5 feet in the

bay. The tidal currents at the entrance to Biscayne Bay may reach a velocity of 1.5

to 3 knots through the main channel.

BerthingPortMiami offers 19.263 linear feet of berthing on Dodge and Lummus islands.

The cruise zones total 8,860 linear feet, with 7,125 feet (36 feet deep) along

the north and northeast sections, 735 feet (32 feet deep) at the northwest section

and 1,000 feet (30 feet deep) at the western extremity of the south shipping

    channel.

The cargo berthing areas total 10,403 linear feet, with 6,120 feet (50 feet

deep) along the southeast section of Lummus Island and the south shipping

channel at the gantry facility. There are 3,283 feet (32 feet deep) of cargo berthing

space along the southwest section of the port.

Fire SafetyPortMiamis fire station the Miami-Dade County Fire Rescues Marine

Services Bureau maintains two 28-foot-long Bertram fire rescue boats. In

addition, hydrants, hand extinguishers and hoses are available. Private companies

such as Coastal Tug & Barge Inc. and Moran Towing Corp. also assist with fire

    protection services.
