The “Et Cetera” Kiosk was projected by a group of four elements in my second year of degree. It is a project that tries to break with the rigid barriers that usually are present in the projects, engaging in a versatility that provides a different dynamic to the kiosk and its site. In this way, the projected structure tries to answer in a multi-disciplinary aspect, keeping his configuration but changing its orientation. The decision of following a principle of multifunctional structure provides from the necessity of adaptation and profitability of the same structure. So, we created a structure that can answer to different requests, rather suport for bathing areas/security point, point of sale and post information and multimedia. The design of the structure gives the possibility of being constructed always in the same way, but answering to the different uses when changing its orientation. All the structure is in wood and it consists in a main structure that suports the secundary elements. All the structure was built without using screws or glue, but all the connections were made with fitting technology.

“Caminhos” is a project of a shelter for the Santiago de Compostela pilgrims for a site in Galiza’s area but that can be assembled in any other place. It points for the route of the pilgrim along his trip and spiritual journey. It consists in two blocks that are connected by a symbolic corridor that materializes the starting point and arrival for a reflection moment – the own spiritual journey. The building stands in a way to create a meeting space outside and a meditation space inside, which are faced to opposite sides, one for the nature and the other for the human consctructions. In the arrival space there are the toilets, lockers and a meeting public area that is related with the outside. The curved corridor shows the way for the meditation building, but at the same time hide the destination, representing the winding journey of the pilgrim. This journey is marked with a sinuous light created by the application of different materials. The shape of the building for meditation embraces the pilgrim, creating a comfortable space and allowing the perfect contemplation and meditation. The utilization of cork associated with the Pladur in the lining of the building tries to strengthen the relation between the building and the nature, and it allows the recycling and an easy assembly in any other place. The pavement is in wood, a material that turns the inside space comfortable. All the structure is a metallic mesh that can be dismantled and assembled easily.

Strahov occupies an important position in the city network and urban structure, although it remains apart. The intention to create a new centrality and connect the area with the city and the people drives the proposal. A new axis connects directly both sides of the hill and the historical axis splits to give form to the cluster of a new campus. In the center density is higher and destined for faculties, while towards the wall, green and leisure activities embrace student’s accommodation. The human scale is given priority, keeping spaces on proximity and protecting the landscape. Exceptionally in the north hill area a green open field is positioned to serve the city or everyday users. The green belt created between the wall and the new urban structure establishes in this way a transition and entrance point to Petrin park. The main core of the Campus is marked by two squares of different morphology, which link the principal axis. The rectorate on the west top lays on an open square while the National Library is in front of the opposite square, which constitutes a more urban place. Residential areas to the West complete the structure of the proposal, respecting the already existing typology in the neighborhood.

The Miguel Bombarda hospital is an old hospital situated in the center of Lisbon and it is part of the hospital complex of Campo de Santana. Being the first psychiatric hospital in Portugal, it contains important historic buildings dated from the XVIII and XIX centuries, like the D. Maria II thermal baths, the Rilhafoles convent and the security pavilion, one of the last panoptic buildings in Europe. Despite its importance, the hospital has some urban and architectural complexities, such as the topography which creates broken links in the city structure, the unattractive museum area and the degradation of the buildings. Due to this situation, some urban plans were developed to solve such problems, however, those designs didn’t respect the museum character, the historical buildings and the surroundings’ context. With this urban revitalization project, we aimed to keep the important historic buildings of the hospital, creating a museum area that coexists with housing and green spaces. So, we kept some of the buildings of the hospital, restoring them and defining new functions, such as primitive art museum in the main building, hospital’s museum in the panoptic building, and housing in the old dormitories and ward building. The streets continue through the site, keeping the urban mesh and creating circulation’s facilities to the new area. The slopes were solved with the creation of different levels, creating several walking paths and green area.

Campo de Ourique is a Lisbon’s central neighborhood organized in quarters vibrating with commerce and housing. Near this neighborhood there is one important street to enter in the city, and the “Amoreiras” buildings, a famous commercial mall and offices building. The proposal of the project was to create a housing building with commercial area in a degraded site in the Campo de Ourique neighborhood that closes the quarter’s mesh of the area. In this way I tried to create a space that will mark an entrance to the Campo de Ourique’s neighborhood, but at the same time creating a relationship with the new developments nearby the site. So, the project consists in a bigger building with 8 floors for housing that is connected in the 1st floor with a smaller one for offices. The two buildings make an U shape, creating a central space between them, and at the same time following the mesh of the neighborhood but opening to the new developed area. The ground floor is divided in two different levels, a first one at north and a lower one at south. The transition between the levels is made with a small central building that creates a leisure area on the roof and a market area on the ground floor. The small building rising out of the ground floor allows a connection between the both sides. The housing building has two different types of houses, T1 houses that are distributed in the first floor, and T3 houses in the upper floors.

After the analysis of the different studies of all the parishes of Óbidos County, I decided to project a Municipal Market in the Olho Marinho village. This way I got the opportunity to work with a traditional Portuguese space, which will acquire importance for the parish, improving the local commerce and production. The proposed market consists of a set of one floor blocks linearly distributed through the space and always according to the same distance between them. These blocks are cut by a curve line that marks a central path in the Market where in south it opens a square. The Market is organized according to the necessary spaces and the different products, delimiting the spaces for fishmongers, butchers, fruit and vegetables, restaurants and stores. The roof of the market consists in a metallic structure that is independent of the blocks, that is divided in 4 stripes perpendicular to the blocks. These stripes have a waveform and misalign between them, creating different spaces that allow the lighting and ventilation of the market space. In the central path the roof opens a space, creating a light line that crosses the market marking a primordial path. The different paths, the square, de distribution of the functions and the wave motion of the roof create different spaces over the Market, defining diverse characters in a main organization.
