Location: The potential heart of Al Buraimi, a border city of Oman, neighboring Al Ain of UAE; going through an economic crisis due to the emergence of a Border fence between them.

Planning Task: To create an identity of the city by means of upgrading the public spaces and buildings. Concept: My concept is to create succession of spaces having different qualities, atmosphere, sizes and activities which would guide a visitor from one fort to the other. This is totally pedestrianized and is formulated by shifting volumes of buildings creating an ensemble of interesting spaces. I integrate each monument/landmark on my site each with one of these recreational spaces. I also bring together the 5 different urban functions Historic, Culture, Commercial, Residen-tial and Recreational spaces. Thus re-defining this old city centre as a focal point and serving as an identity of the city.

Cultural Square: Aiming to serve as identity of the site, the buildings in the cultural square contains a wavy roof in-spired by the idea of a curvy wadi in front of it. The roof gives rise to various spatial experiences such as: Enclosed Zone, Semi-Enclose zone, Open zone, Double height, single height and elevated spaces, thus serving as the core zone of the site.

The Urban Walkway Running north-south, comprises of Mud Brick Exhibition Square, Tempo-rary Event Area, Cultural Square, Mixed Use Square, Market Square.

Location: For this project we were given a choice between three sites and criteria of building: MQ (single courtyard building), Athaiba, (cluster of courtyard buildings), Mabellah (a neighbourhood of courtyard build-ings) . I chose a site in Athaiba.

Concept: Wadis are neglected and often kept bare in Oman, through my concept I want to upgrade the quality of living around the wadi and prove that this space can be quiet interesting. I let the wadi flow and create space around it and then worked on the land created by the wadi; secondly there already exsists a wadi park on the other side of the road, which is overly deifned by native plants into a very beautiful part. My aim was to also create a contrast between that park and my wadi space. The different typologies of buildings that I place, all level down to the wadi (Section 1) and are blocked from the road side by taller buildings, giving only glimpses of what is happening behind it (section 2)

For this concept I use two typologies, the smaller, lower villa typology and the larger, higher apartment typology. I cluster the villas typology with two different types of floor plans together to create an enclosed private courtyard, for the residents of these villas. I then border each of the clusters with an apartment building, some having retail or offices on the ground floor.

My concept is to create two kinds of spatial experiences by the way I cluster two typologies together. A- To create an enclosed private communal courtyard B- To create a semi-public space overlooing the wadi

The buildings are clustered in such a way, that it allows 2 facades to contain windows for view outside, while the other 2 have only ventillation openings, thus giving privacy. The red lines in the drawings below shows where the next house can stand. The area between the red lines carry ventillation openings. The villas all have two entances, one from the outside and the other leading you to the private communal courtyard at the back of the house. The villas give a succession of experiences from private to semi public to public. Living room (pri-vate), outdoor seating (semi-public), private communal courtyard (public).

Location: A land in The Wave between the future Kepenski hotel and the marina.Planning task: This land was to be converted in to an Artists Souq containing living quarters and studios along with residential and mixed use.

Concept: My concept is to create a lively pedestrian pathway connecting the hotel with the marina containing a diver-sity of urban functions along it. My concept evolved from a grid of 14/14m having a 3m walkway in between, this grid was titled to 450 to the n, catching the wind. Special buildings such as Entrance building, Art Hubs (exhibition, gallery spaces, art schools and guest houses) are then plotted in important turning points of the design. The Art Hub buildings contain overhung parts under which serves as the prime public area. In conclusionm four important spots can be found in my design - The entrance, the two Art Hubs and the marina as the final destination. The area contains underground

The main car access point to the site is from an underground parking, from which elevators bring one up to ground level in various points along the many residential gardens in the site.

Housing concept: The pathway is formulated by public and residential buildings with mixed use on the ground floor. Three buildings are connected with one external circulation containing two staircases and one elevator. The entrances of these buildings are always from the garden connecting the three buildings. These buildings go up to three to four floors. The positions of the balconies are flipped from one floor to the other, creating a sculptural faade.

Location: Port Sultan QaboosPlanning Task:To design the port area with multi activities to serve both residents and tourists, as the port is to be shifted elsewhere & land abondoned.

Concept: is to establish an area which would support, enhance and exhibit the culture and traditions of Muttrah and in large Oman, along with fulfilling the desires of Mattrah residents of having better residential and social meeting places at close proximity. My design is influenced by the metaphor zipper, opening up to create various qualities of urban green spaces which would host most of the outdoor activities. My concept is to make this exterior space as vibrant as possible. The other main element of my design is an extension of the Corniche, which will run on the edge of the islands connect-ing them and creating different water enclosures. This path will ensure a warm pedestrian environment.

The buildings along the green core all have retail/offices on the ground floor and the green core helps make this cluster more lively having outdoor seating areas. At the end of this long green core is an element which would give one the opportunity to experience the feeling of being surrounded by water. I preliminarily designed this element to be such that the level of water inside it could increase and decrease with high and low tides and thus act as an attractive hang out element.

As it can be seen in the plan(below right) the green core acts as the heart of the area having various sizes/shapes and are shaded by artificial elements to create pleasant seating places.

Location: GUtech Halban CampusPlanning Task: To design an energy efficient building. The winning concept would be the initial design concept of the ECO HOUSE competition by TRC reserch council.

Concept: We chose the location near the main building of GUtech, which has a slope going down to the student livig quarters. Our concept was to integrate our building with the slope. This would not only keep the building cooler tak-ing in heat from the earth but also help us with our concept of creating our building as a pathway. The competition was meant not only to built an energy efficient house but also communicate with the public. Our concept would allow the general public to walk through the structure. Hence publicity of the building and how it is created will be advertised.

We create 2 different levels; one going up to the technical area while the other going down to the Spanish leading to the student Quarters. Since the public will be in touch with the area, with our Eco Haus, we clearly separate the Public and Private zones with various means to emphasize the difference such as sizes of windows and materials used for the seper-ation. We clearly seperate the private areas of the building from the public ones. Our roof was to contain solar panels, and we integrated a pathway going up to the roof in order to view how these panels would work.Our concept was not only to use the house for residential purpose but also for the purpose of research and exhibition.

Location: Shatti al Qurm task: To design an university em-bassy for GUtech in the city, which could attract visitors by its form as well as functions; it was to have classrooms as well as visitor areas.

Concept: My concept was to make this building stand out from the rest as it stood in a residential area. The plot was elevated overlooking the highway. On the opposite side of the highway was the British Council where potential students of GUtech would go to right their IELTS. From this i drew the decision of making my building visible from the British council as well as the highway and make it such that it would grab attention of any passer by.

Three similar shapes taking birth from the anchor point is stacked on top of each other, each slightly displace than the one below to create different quality of spaces. The function of the building was to be GUtech Embassy, which would serve as both information centre for new students as well as informative and language classes for current ones. The public and private part of the design in separated by placing a vertical element which houses all the servant spaces like the staircase, bathrooms, store rooms etc The faade is kept relatively simple by having a ribbon of windows which would jump up and down with every alternate window.

1 point on site (a tree) acts as the anchor point sending out vibes which grows up to an organic three story structure which is visible from the other side of the road where the British Council stands.

Task: To analysis a small organism to learn about how its got the form it has and then to translate those principles to create a form. Organism: Coral Shell

Analysis: A polyp is an organism with no backbone and two elements, the tentacles and the mouth.These polyps feed on planktons and digest them to secrete an exo-skeleton of calcium carbonate which further functions as a house for the organism, serving the purpose of protection. The growth of a single structure happens in stages due to the development of Sepia (separation lines) in a single exo-skeleton. Over time this number of sepia increases and develops into a structure. As a single polyp is weak on its own, it reproduces itself by asexu-al reproduction and forms clones of its self.Each structure joins itself to its neighbour by sharing at least one common wall. Thus creating a dome like structure and protecting itself from external enemy.

Results: Bricks with various organic holes in them, which can bring in light through these perforations. If used as a construction material for small pavillions/exhibition spaces, this can create amazing light and shadow effect.

The central hole is where the mouth resides, it is well sheltered. It sends out tentacles which flap about in the water and collect food. Once the food is collected, the tentacles can take refuge inside its House. The central hole-Mouth, exerts a pressure over the tentacles which limit the distance of its movement outside its shelter. This also gives the exo-skeleton its hexagonal shape. Thus each exo-skeleton joins together with six other and forms a coral.

The things that fascinated me the most in its structure are: How each skeleton joined to its neighbor with one wall; The hexagonal shape; And most importantly how the central hole exerted pressure over the whole structure and controlled its shape. This is fact which I tried to mimic in my experimentations and in making the final model.

Light and shadow effect Coral bricks assembled in different ways

Implimentation: I analysed the image and chose to work with the spaces made BETWEEn the rocks edges. The 2D outline was then converted in a surface, which was the beginning of my design. I then analysed the shadows made in the region, identifying dark to lighter areas. Depending upon the density of the shadow I extruded the outline of particular areas to certain heights; the darkest area gaining the highest. The surface acted as a mirror surface and I continued the extrusion on both the sides of the surface, hence creating a sculpture which had different spatial impressions and feelings. I created different experiences with the same elements by the help of anchor-ing it to both sides of this mirror surface, making it act as both the base and the top for either side.

Task: To decipher a shape in a zoomed in image of a rock and convert it into a form which had different spatial conditions.
