Earthquake in Chile

At 3:34 am local time, on February 27th 2010, a devastating magnitude 8.8 earthquake struck Chile, one of the strongest earthquakes ever recorded. The earthquake also triggered a Tsunami. The disastrous consequences

surrounding the Chilean city of Concepcion pushed the patience of its inhabitants to the limit and they took the streets in search of supplies.

Earthquake in Haiti

Januanry 12 th, 2010 the worst earthquake in 200 years – 7.0 in magnitude, struck less than ten miles from the Caribbean city of Port au Prince, Haiti. The initial quake was later followed by twelve aftershocks greater than

magnitude 5.0. Structures of all kinds were damaged or collapsed, from shantytown homes to national landmarks. An estimated three million people were affected by the quake; the Haitian government reported

Chilean miners rescue

On August 5, 2010 the roof of the San José copper and gold mine collapsed, trapping 33 miners inside, 700 meters below ground near Copiapó, Chile. The fate of the burried men, known as “los 33” (“The 33”) was not immediately known. It took 17 days before a drill machine reached their refuge, discovering them alive and well. A video link has been establisher, and food, messages from relatives and supplies were delivered by several narrow bareholes. The mixed crew of experienced miners and technical support made that they

Complexo do Alemao drug war

After recent efforts to pacify Rio’s drug and gang violence ahead of the upcoming 2014 World Cup and 2016 Olimpic Games, drug gangs struck out attacking police stations and staging mass robberies. Brazilian security

forces reacted lounching an armed raid in the shantytown named ‘Complexo do Alemao’, in which among 500 and 600 drug traffickers were holded up.
