WHO ARE THEY?Artisans, artists and small businesses with own manufacturing, who use the hands as their main tool for the job. The are usually those who, in a way, give continuity to a whole Crafting, thus Cultural, Heritage, providing us with elements that are part of the Visual Culture of the city, elements that are part of Lisbon as we know her.

Because Lisbon is a city where the ancient and picturesque walk alongside the modern, joining antique, modern and modernized (old, but with a modern motif) is desired, showing hands, environments, work spaces and the people who still do manual jobs in Lisbon. More often that not, the spaces are hidden or ignored.

THE PROJECTIt all started in May 2011, under the Masters degree in Visual Design, at IADE. Why?

In 2009, while I was doing a project that required an old-fashioned binding of a book, I stum-bled upon a binder I never know existed, in my old Neighbourhood. If I wasn’t told, I would have never realised that an old man, 80 plus years old, was there, biding and restoring books. This triggered a number of ideas that converged into this project. After all, Lisbon really has a lot of artists that we, focused in our lives as we are, seldom see.

Summer vacations were spent with some of these people, and with that experience the idea started gaining body and the will to continue beyond-degree. And that’s the purpose of this site. So that the artists that keep Lisbon’s manual craft active are known.

The masters degree’s project object was a book based in 3 caracteristics: manual, secret and expressive.

PACKAGING

AL GOURMET (September 2008 - January 2009)Gourmet packaging project with products from Algarve made in Universidade Lusíada de Lisboa.

1. PUMPKIN SWEET WITH ALMONDS AND NUTS “A FARROBINHA”Pumpkin, almonds and nuts are very typical in the Algarve. They have several uses. This pack is

made of glass with a cork cover, very simple and elegant.

2. TUNA MUXAMATuna muxama is dried gourmet tuna (that can be compared with dried ham). Also very typical in

the portuguese coastal region. Is conserved in a cylindrical card.

3. CAROB HONEYTypical carob honey made in Tavira. This pack is like a soap meter but for honey. This way we can control

the amount of honey used for tea or used with bread. Carob can also be used in cakes.

4. arbutus spiritSpirit made with arbutus, really strong and alcoholic. In an elegant black glass bottle with a sticker that ac-

companies the form of the bottle.

5. SMALL CAKES AND SWEETS MADE WITH FIGSFigs are really common in the Algarve. There are a lot of cakes, sweets made with this fruit and that’s why

is has been chosen to this gourmet pack. There are 5 parts, each part for each sweet, and has a cut on top that reminds us to the Algarve chimneys, a common symbol in every pacof
